Directing duo TEARJERKER direct a touching exploration of love and relationships, in their seventh promo for The Academic.&nbsp;The loved-up video for My Very Best is the third in a trilogy for the group's latest album, and is set against the backdrop of the annual Matchmaking Festival in&nbsp;Lisdoonvarna, Ireland.Anchored by farmer Willie Daly - the third in a line of traditional matchmakers - the video is a hopeful, heartwarming tale which documents the hope and bravery of people attending in anticipation of making a match.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]Evoking a sense of timeless love, the duo blended a modern and vintage aesthetic, using an old Sony DV camera and Arri Alexa Mini. The Academic themselves appear in a performance shot in a community hall, tying the whole thing together in their own energetic way.Hope and Ronan&nbsp;of TEARJERKER had come across a sign for&nbsp;Europe's Largest Singles Festival while taking a road trip along the Wild Atlantic Way on the West Coast of Ireland a couple of years ago with a bunch of friends. They had stopped to take a photo next to the sign."Sadly it was cancelled that year, but we knew we'd be back to capture it one day," explains Hope. "There is something so brave and hopeful about the people going there with the anticipation and nervousness of finding a match, we wanted to document that feeling. "We took a tiny film crew there and we've truly never seen anything like it. It's an Irish match-making festival so there was a lot of boozing and the endorphins were high. We witnessed some pretty X-rated moments that didn't quite make it into the final cut.[imgtoken data:2] "All the friends from the photo with the sign are all in relationships now, so maybe there really is something in the air in Lisdoonvarna."The directors add that their long working relationship with The Academic has changed the way they make music videos.&nbsp;"There's such trust and respect between everyone working on the projects. The themes are often the same — youth, heartbreak, hope, big dreams in a small town — but we’ve tried to mix genres and form. We want each one to feel different.”

Joe Simmons directs a breathtaking promo for Project Peters, created entirely within real-time 3D tool Unreal Engine.&nbsp;Created in collaboration with Unreal artist/DoP Ben Halford, the otherworldly video follows a pair of astronauts who crash-land on a planet inhabited by potentially dangerous aliens.&nbsp;Simmons reveals that he was inspired by another space-themed universe when conceptualising the project. “Since watching The Mandalorian, I have been fascinated by the enormous potential of Unreal Engine, and I truly believe it’s this generation’s DSLR revolution," he says.&nbsp;"It grants developing filmmakers a level of choice and flexibility in creative storytelling that’s only afforded to projects with massive budgets and huge teams. Calum Macdiarmid directs a touching promo for Everyone You Know's There For You.&nbsp;Late at night, we see the main character being released from prison, travelling back to a warehouse location and enjoying his first taste of freedom.We follow the introspective journey as he reunites with old friends and starts to ease back into some kind of a 'normal'&nbsp;routine, ready to start living life on the outside again.&nbsp;Real, raw and honest, the visuals perfectly align with the duo's outlook on their music and mirrors the emotional track.[imgtoken data:1]"My approach to the promo was inspired by the single itself, as well as the EYK catalogue as a whole," says Macdiarmid. "The track reminded me of the ‘lawless’ feel of late-90s squat party raves, and I realised that the aftermath of such an event would be the perfect setting for a song about the end of a night."EYK suggested a narrative about someone returning from somewhere, which I evolved to a man returning from prison, and the emotional journey as he slowly comes to terms with being free."

The footage is accompanied by photographs taken by James Demetriou, placing viewers even further into the heart of Newham.Macdiarmid comments: “I did a few music videos during the lockdown period, but this one felt like the most effortless and conceptual. It had a crew of two – myself and the DOP Max Witting – and we turned up separately and shot the film in about three hours. As Big V1ne himself described it, it was a ‘Deliveroo Music Video’ – he didn’t even have to leave the house for the entirety of the shoot!”

Ever wondered what happened to James Blunt after he threw himself into the ocean at the end of the iconic music video for You’re Beautiful?Rather than asking the obvious follow-up question&nbsp;- where have you been for the past 14 years? - let's embrace the fact that Calum&nbsp;Macdiarmid has ingeniously brought back that James Blunt, the one who had the balls to jump off a cliff for real in the original video directed by Sam Brown, for a sequel.The video for Cold starts with him in the water, moments after his jump, and clinging to life. And then in the following few minutes, he is swept up onto shore, stepping on the rocks - and starts climbing back up that cliff, clinging to the rock face, and back up onto the summit - and beyond.Max Witting picks up the DoP role from Robbie Ryan this time around, and carries something of the stark, bleak mood from the original video. But once again this smart idea works due to the unbelievable commitment from the artist, who delivers a&nbsp;top-notch physical performance&nbsp;- he's evidently still doing his own stunts - and a heartfelt vocal performance too.&nbsp;An inspired sequel, as welcome as it was&nbsp;unexpected.&nbsp;

Director Rollo Hollins addresses this insight from Al-Anon directly in his new powerful music video for Bear’s Den’s track Hiding Bottles.In scenes that will sadly be familiar to many, the film centres on a family grappling with the impact of alcohol abuse. The video uses the idea of doubles to explore how alcoholism fractures realities for its victims and loved ones.&nbsp;Scenes of apparent ‘normal’ family life and happy home-video footage are juxtaposed with tense scenes of irresponsible parenting and arguments, unnervingly brought to life by the cast’s extraordinary performances.&nbsp;The use of of in-camera techniques and casting real-life identical twins made it possible to achieve uncanny shots of doubles of each family member living out different versions of their reality side by side in the same frame.

For this latest video for Leningrad, Ilya Naishuller has changed things up a little - this one is animated. But don&#39;t worry, it&#39;s still trademark Naishuller, and therefore superlatively hyperactive and, of course, eyewateringly violent.It&#39;s a sci-fi scenario in futuristic Japan where the reigning gangster overlords are challenged by a trio of super-gifted kung-fu-enabled assassins. An explosive turf war ensues to the strains of the Russian rock band&#39;s Ju-Ju, complete with the old gangster&#39;s flashback to the key moment of his corruption.&nbsp;It&#39;s clear who has the good juju - but for how long, before the real boss shows up?&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;This gore-spattered action comes in the style of a superior kids&#39; TV cartoon, with Naishuller working with Gluk&rsquo;oza Animation and HONK FU Studio in Russia.&nbsp;&quot;I&#39;ve never had the chance to direct animation but have always wanted to,&quot; Naishuller has said. &quot;I jumped at the opportunity to expand my horizons on this project. The freedom that animation gives you is incredibly exciting. I decided to stay away from just going crazy with the &#39;camera&#39; though and boarded it like I would have done if I was shooting live action. I didn&rsquo;t want to lose that &lsquo;filmic&rsquo; quality and wanted to be able to tell a fairly complex story as clearly as I possibly could.&quot;[imgtoken data:1]Naishuller&#39;s third video for the band, Leningrad&rsquo;s frontman Sergei Snurov gave him creative freedom with this, perhaps not surprisingly after the worldwide success of his video for <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2017/02/17/leningrad-kolshik-ilya-naishuller" target="_blank">Kolshik</a> last year - winner of two Cannes Lions, two D&amp;AD Pencils and an UKMVA.&nbsp;&quot;The song is a humorous deconstruction of everyday jealousy, so I based the script on the same premise,&quot; explains Naishuller. &quot;However, as I always tend to do, I stayed the hell away from illustrating lyrics instead I worked within their themes. I had an absolute blast working with and learning from the very talented and driven animation team when it came to bringing it to life.&quot;And however violent it gets, it&#39;s still not as upsetting as Bambi.

A rich young guy is living the dream - but that&#39;s nothing compared to the story inside his head. Ilya Naishuller&#39;s latest blockbuster for Russian rock band Leningrad flashes back&nbsp;from our hero and his numerous&nbsp;lingerie model, pole-dancing girlfriends, to his career as a master criminal. It all serves Naishuller&#39;s true purpose - to deliver as many explosive visual thrills as possible in four minutes.Featuring famous Russian actor Aleksandr Pal as the chain smoking anti-hero, Voyage is a trademark blockbusting thrill-ride from Naishuller involving girls, drugs, yachts and, of course, serious crime and punishment. It follows the jawdropping Kolshik, Naishuller&#39;s previous video for Leningrad, that&#39;s been scooping awards all over the place this year, including Best VFX in a Video at last month&#39;s UKMVAs.&nbsp;The new video includes a&nbsp;cast of over forty models, and the jacuzzi scene is set in one of Moscow&rsquo;s most famously expensive hotel suites (but they didn&#39;t have to pay the US$12K a night charge because the hotel owners are fans of both Naishuller and Leningrad, apparently). The final nightclub scene, where Pal&#39;s character pays his dues in a Bonnie &amp; Clyde style pay-off, required 120 squibs to get that full bloodbath effect. Naishuller doesn&#39;t really do things by halves.&quot;I wanted the audience to feel like they&#39;re watching a typical male fantasy video where something feels a little off, then flip the concept on its head with a crime drama twist,&quot; says Ilya Naishuller. &quot;We nodded our hat to a few impossible tricks to denote the imagination of the lead character. For example, old Cadillacs can&rsquo;t drift, so we used a mix of practical FX and CGI magic to bring that to life. Also,&nbsp;Alexander Pal, is actually well known for his comedic chops in Russia. I wanted him to play against type.When it came to the&nbsp;yacht scene, he points out it wasn&#39;t so glamourous for the models, as they were shooting in Russia locations in October, and it was very chilly.&nbsp;&ldquo;It was only five degrees outside when we shot the yacht scene, so it&#39;s fair to say that Russian women are hard as nails! The stuntwoman who dove into the freezing waters is probably a Kryptonian.&rdquo;[imgtoken data:1]

Ilya Naishuller&#39;s insane video for Leningrad&#39;s&nbsp;Kolshik is a calamity in reverse. Beginning at the climax and working our way backward with reverse footage and clever reveals, we get to see exactly how a day at the circus turned into such a complete disaster.There&#39;s a hell of a lot to unpack here in the video&#39;s four minutes: a lot of storylines running concurrently - including a tiger on the loose, a flaming acrobat in a gorilla suit, and a Mafia deal that goes very wrong &ndash; that&nbsp;all happen to reach a climax simultaneously, creating a blockbuster of farcical&nbsp;carnage and bloodshed.It&#39;s a jawdropping&nbsp;video to watch, with the superb VFX work making the various horrifically violent scenes drawn out in unremitting detail in order&nbsp;to show you how everything went down. Brace yourself for this one.
