A mysterious figure ponders what it means to be a man in 2022, in Giles Edward-N's enigmatic promo for Shadez The Misfit.The video explores&nbsp;the artist's socio-economic upbringing and life experience, through to his role as&nbsp;guide and mentor as a new father, with a powerful and memorable style.Shot in high contrast black and white, the video uses conceptual setups to bring the themes to life, with burnt-out highlights and crushed shadows creating a gritty, otherworldly aesthetic.&nbsp;The autobiographical piece blends narrative with abstract imagery, representing the uncertainty of the journey ahead, and the newfound responsibility he has been given.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Celebrity Deathmatch meets Groundhog Day in Chris Ullens' terrific and cheerfully gory video for UK teen pop singer Gayle's team-up with singer-songwriter Blackbear - featuring the pair as toys in toytown suburbia, with homicidal tendencies.In this stop-motion epic of nextdoor neighbour hostility, Gayle takes the form of a figure the size of a toy soldier, leaving her house (after guzzling down a real-size frankfurter) to wage war on Blackbear, who lives next door. As he is mowing the lawn to make a rude sign, she feeds him and his friends to the mower. And that just starts the begins the increasingly extravagant&nbsp;ways in which they dispatch each other on a daily basis.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]Ullens is the king of stop-motion animation who has given us some wonderful videos for the likes of Fergie, Rex Orange County and Lee Ann Womack, all from his&nbsp;tabletop studio. This one falls into the category of toy-related gore that he pioneered with Two Fingers' Vengeance Rhythm, a real stomach-churning splatterfest&nbsp;involving a psychopathic teddybear.&nbsp;This is rather more playful - as the animation was created with a series of non-moving&nbsp;plastic figurines. Ullens also only had a four-week turnaround to create his dark comedy - and he still manages to engineer something of a Happy Ever After...&nbsp;

Jorja Smith's wonderful collab with Popcaan gets a superb visual accompaniment, thanks to another inspired collaboration.Amber Grace Johnson made a big impact with her debut video, made for Jorja last year - the steamy and stylish <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/08/19/jorja-smith-ft-burna-boy-be-honest-amber-grace-johnson/60355" target="_blank">Be Honest</a>. Now she has moved into the previously unfamiliar territory of animation for Come Over, and recruited the help of animation collective Future Power Station to create a thrilling vehicle to dramatise Jorja's love-life complications in the song.[imgtoken data:1]The approach was&nbsp;necessitated by the shutdown on live action production at the start of the coronavirus crisis.&nbsp;But it has conversely allowed Johnson to indulge her love of Japanese anime, and given FPS (that's Yibi Hu, Geoff Parsons, Naima Vogt) to make a rare excursion&nbsp;into music video and demonstrate their design and animation skills.The video is set in a near-future world familiar in anime, but the storyline is a timeless reflection of the song&nbsp;- Jorja is waiting on a call from a new boyfriend, while he's wondering why she has not called. Each one is hot for the other, each one fears the other has no interest. But with an apposite 'F*ck It', Jorja springs into action, leaping on her hover-motorbike (as opposed to the real bike in Be Honest). She undergoes a mystical transformation, and she also enters a club, and begins to reveal her superpowers to deal&nbsp;with the attention of toxic males, before breaking through the real and metaphorical wall to reach her lover.[imgtoken data:2]“When all production froze due to COVID,&nbsp;Jorja&nbsp;reached out to me," explains Johnson, in a statement accompanying the video's release.&nbsp;"Little did she know it’s a lifelong dream of mine to create an anime-inspired piece, being a fan of Ghibli, Satoshi Kon, Aeon Flux, Wicked City and other classics."Best part was that production limits in animation are somewhat non-existent (except of course for how much time you have and resources). But in terms of actions, it felt infinite. I wanted an airborne scene, a hover motorbike, and a fight scene of an undefeated&nbsp;Jorja&nbsp;to kill off a fleet of slimy, artificial club fuckboys on a dystopian sun planet using her hair as her weapon."Naturally my script evolved into ideas only my imagination could dream up. We were lucky to have the opportunity to work with Future Power Station, who brought the vision to life and exceeded expectations.” &nbsp;

Ewan Jones Morris's new video for Anna Meredith follows on from their previous collaboration for Paramour, finding interesting ways to use tiny cameras.For <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/07/15/anna-meredith-paramour-ewan-jones-morris/59752" target="_blank">Paramour</a>, there was one GoPro, attached to a very small train, made of Lego, capturing a musical performance. For Killjoy, there are lots of GoPro, to capture Meredith and her band's&nbsp;enterprising move into the world of dance.The band perform movement choreographed by David Ogle, reaching fairly complex physical interconnections (for non-dance professionals) to reflect Meredith's complex music. Jones Morris contribution is to add a further dimension, and give the performance more dynamism: the numerous GoPros are arranged in a circle; they record the action, from every angle; and&nbsp;they are also part of the video, creating a context for the performance.&nbsp;Again, it's a&nbsp;one-take deal, but editor Florence Kennard cuts between the cameras around the band to make the video&nbsp;as kinetic as the track. A mathematical approach to the modern classical-meets-math rock - math classical? -&nbsp;of Meredith's Killjoy, from the Mercury Prize-nominated&nbsp;Fibs. &nbsp;

Greg Barth, the Swiss-born, UK-based artist and director, has joined Friends Electric - the London &amp; LA-based creative studio and sister company to Electric Theatre Collective.&nbsp;Barth has won critical acclaim and awards for his work, including his three videos for Easy Life - Nightmares (above), Sunday and Nice Guys - and Rone's Wave ft Noga Erez.&nbsp;His 360 film The Future of Music&nbsp;was part of Vimeo's 360player press tour and won a Graphite D&amp;AD and a UKMVA amongst others. His film for Microsoft, Child of the 90s&nbsp;has garnered over 48 million views on YouTube and counting.With his command of different forms of animation, art direction and directing live action, Barth has become known for a an aesthetic embracing surreal and cinematic comedy. Ewan Jones Morris follows up his excellent new video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/07/15/anna-meredith-paramour-ewan-jones-morris/59752" target="_blank">Anna Meredith</a> with another distinctive tour de force for One True Pairing, the new project from former&nbsp;former Wild Beasts songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Tom Fleming.Fleming performs I'm Not Afraid while also dancing with&nbsp;unselfconscious abandon in a neutral space. It's a performance created from stills, and this&nbsp;becomes the canvas for the next layer of craft, a collage of&nbsp;images to match his face, hands, feet and the remainder of his dancing self.Then the collage technique switches to the&nbsp;background behind&nbsp;Fleming, and we see beautiful landscapes, textures and patterns cut through the silhouette of his body. It's a trademark example of Jones Morris's brand of creativity: eclectic, imaginative visual ideas bursting from simple foundations."Tom was keen to throw some shapes and I was keen to throw some pictures on those shapes," he says.&nbsp;"It was a bit of an experiment, but it seems to have worked." &nbsp;
