Troy Roscoe directs a stripped-back yet hugely captivating promo for Potter Payper.&nbsp;Shot at night with a backdrop of neon shopfronts, the video features a tireless performance from Payper, whilst different characters play out their day-to-day routines.&nbsp;The approach works like a charm on this project, with the three minute runtime passing by like a bright spark, never feeling stale or tired."Simplicity is key in this one," Rocoe explains.&nbsp;"I think sometimes as creatives we overthink our ideas, trying to constantly improve on what’s already out there or to come up with something that’s not been done. But sometimes you have to reign it in and realise less is more."Shot in what was actually three takes, this one-take form visual sees Potter Payper in a dystopian-lit corner shop location, as the world around him evolves, whilst he performs in a nonchalant manner undisturbed by anything around him. Potter smashed this and took direction super well, which enabled us to shoot all of this within two&nbsp;hours!"I'm definitely going to get into more one-take content -&nbsp;or even just more tripod shots as not everything has to have crazy movement."

Jordan Rossi directs an empassioned promo for South African singer-songwriter, actor and novelist Nakhane, featuring Perfume Genius, with a work that takes its cue from some pillars of Queer cinema and art.&nbsp;The video for Do You Well begins&nbsp;with Nakhane and their love interest glistening under sparkling lights in a studio space, and then&nbsp;battling to create a common ground, before finally connecting with each other.&nbsp;Gorgeous and thrilling, the video visualises a complex set of emotions in a stylish and thought-provoking manner, and the end result is wonderfully alluring.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]"Nakhane already had a concept for this video," Rossi reveals.&nbsp;"It was very much centred around a wrestling encounter between two people in a homoerotic fashion. They wanted to express the idea of a duel and the ridiculous nature of aggressive masculinity."Nakhane and I drew inspiration from lots of Queer art and cinema such as Pink Narcissus by James Bidgood, Querelle by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Moonlight by Barry Jenkins and Sebastien by Derek Jarman. We also looked at features like Fight Club and Shame - both dealing with masculinity, sex and relationships in a unique manner.[imgtoken data:2]"Visually, I wanted a really deep and textured image with lots of energy. Tony Scott's turbulent yet cinematically rich style of compressed imagery was a huge source of inspiration here.&nbsp;"It's not every day you get to make projects such as this so a huge shout out goes to Faye who commissioned it, the record label for giving us complete creative freedom and Nakhane for being such a trusting collaborator."

The pressure comes to a head as he&nbsp;gets out to confront the antagonistic driver, whilst the camera pulls back to introduce&nbsp;several doppelgängers in the back seat, who all try to keep Carner from boiling over.The video is&nbsp;charged with the anger, confusion and anxiety that make up the modern experience of being Black and British at this particular point in time, and is a stirring and thought-provoking watch.&nbsp;

The New Hope Club boys experience four seasons in one day, in Troy Roscoe's feel-good promo for Getting Better.&nbsp;Walking around a residential block, we see the group take the elements in their stride, as they joyously perform in the middle of the street.&nbsp;"This was for sure one of my favourite shoots to date," says Roscoe. "Admittedly, as soon as I decided I wanted New Hope Club to walk through an abundance of weather elements, we had our work cut out. There was so much room for error, as instead of going for visual effects, we opted for real physical weather simulations."&nbsp;&nbsp;"The boys made this an absolute breeze - pardon the pun - as their raw talent, charisma and charm brought the visual to life and made it a pleasure to work with them. I think telling an artist you want them to walk through real rain, wind and snow is always a difficult conversation, but the boys were down for anything in order to achieve the epic video that we did."&nbsp;The playful concept is executed perfectly, and makes for a unique and refreshing visual. Now someone go get the group (and crew)&nbsp;a hot cup of tea!&nbsp;

Douglas Hart and Steve Mackey - the former Pulp bassist-turned director -&nbsp;direct a grungy promo for Hot Chip's return with Down.&nbsp;The video is a lo-fi&nbsp;affair, blending gritty textures, abstract imagery and distorted layers of oversaturated footage.&nbsp;Paying homage to early music video experimentation, the compelling performances are contrasted against unusual, seemingly unrelated vignettes, which seem more inspired by the industrial beat than any lyrical content. Milo Blake's takes Obangjayar into an Afropop direction,&nbsp;with a noir twist, in the video for the pulsating Tinko Tinko (Don't Play Me For a Fool).Obongjayar is working a nightshift&nbsp;at tech company OB Dream Corp&nbsp;-&nbsp;no relation to a certain repping agency - and while on a break he switches on a distinctly old-school desktop and finds a viral video that becomes his portal into a twisted mirror image of his own world.In this alternate dimension, Obangjayar is transformed into a pop artist, performing the song, and accompanied in the same office by dancers. As the views skyrocket on the viral video, it plays on how&nbsp;technology and viral trends consume our lives. As a bunch of old friends cling on through the final hours of a houseparty, Murkage Dave makes a timely appearance in Ricky Gibb';s perceptive and&nbsp;wonderfully performed video for Us Lot.This has been framed by Gibb as a comedy drama with dialogue leading into the track,&nbsp;featuring the interaction between five twenty-something&nbsp;friends, who have become less close through the passage of time, then finding a moment to come together again with the mysterious help of Murkage Dave.&nbsp;And this really does feel like a party in the final stages after its been going for several hours, with the characters in various&nbsp;states of mind, from the guy enthusing about crypto, to the blissed-out raver, to the individual sweating on the sofa riding out a bad trip - and seeing Murkage Dave materialise once the track goes on the speakers.[imgtoken data:1]Gibb reveals that the video came from a lot of brainstorming between himself and Dave - pretty much since they first worked together two years ago, on the video for Miles from Kinshasa's Motions. "It's the second time Dave and I have worked together on a music video: although based on the endless conversations and concepts we’ve bounced off of one another over the past two years it feels as though we've created a hundred projects together," he says."For me, the lyrical content is always the first jumping-off point when developing the idea,&nbsp;and Dave’s words are an absolute joy to respond to creatively.&nbsp;"He paints such vulnerable, personable, and relatable images; something I seek to do within my own work too.[imgtoken data:2]&nbsp;"In my own life, it has felt harder and harder to see friends and maintain connections. This is something that weighs on me heavily. Studying the sentiments expressed in Us Lot&nbsp;really reminded me that some bonds will always remain, despite how infrequently we may get to see one another."This felt like quite an unusual one to approach from a logistical recording perspective on the day; the idea that each of them was inextricably entwined, although seemingly severed in the space. With the strength of an incredibly talented cast - Victoria Nwaesei as Dom, Will Stevens as Earl, Alex Flick as Oscar, Rosie Goddard as Maisey, Derrick Methu as Bigz -&nbsp;and crew (including Joshua Fry as DOP, Tomasso Colleli on Steadicam), we were able to run the entire video through start to finish akin to a theatre show, and really allow the cast to explore their characters and the space equally in front of us.”He has done a great job with this, his first video since signing to KODE. An auspicious beginning which bodes very well for the future.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Samuel Taylor reunites with Fontaines D.C. to direct a hypnotic near-oneshot video for the intense I Love You.Taylor shot the terrific live promo of the Irish rock band's A Hero's Death for The Tonight Show&nbsp;- nominated for the Best Live Video award at last year's&nbsp;UKMVAs. This follows a similar structure - arguably it could be regarded as something of a sequel to that one - but it takes a more gothic and ghoulish turn, as frontman Grian Chatten performs&nbsp;the song as he walks through a candle-lit church.&nbsp;&nbsp;The combination of the setting and Chatten's characteristically monotone, almost contemptuous delivery of the lyrics help to build a sense of creepiness and forboding that feeds into the film's uncanny, horrific climax: the site of blood spurting spontaneously from the singer's chest, through his T-shirt...&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
