The result is a blockbusting&nbsp;epic six-minute 2D and 3D&nbsp;animated video that imagines Belshazzar's Feast... aka The End of the World.From the moment a mysterious&nbsp;gowned Samaritan tends to the last moments of a dying man in a parched desert, we are unmistakeably placed in a dystopian world ravaged by pollution and drought. Then the elite class begin to arrive for their exclusive party in the desert - including a fat, bloated US President and a bunch of faceless, bowler-hatted British civil servants...[imgtoken data:1]But their dastardly rule of the Earth is about to come to an end. Jon Hopkins long-awaited return with Emerald Rush, the first release from the new album Singularity, comes with this fantastic multi-media visual from Elliot Dear and Robert Hunter.A boy in a forest is lured by a throbbing chrysalis to release a beetle that looks eerily like the young lad. Then he is transported into a cave where the swarm of beetles gather around a glass-surfaced lake. But is it actually a lake...?And what appears to be entirely animated subtly changes as the boy slip[s into a space dimension, amid exploding nebulae. These were actually created in lo-tech science experiments by Dear and Hunter at the start of the eight week process making the film. Inspired by the family adventure films of the 80s and 90s, Elliot Dear has directed a thrilling video for&nbsp;Francois &amp; the Atlas Mountains&#39;&nbsp;The Way to the Forest.&nbsp;It&#39;s a cinematic fantasy of tiny forest ninjas (played by Francois and the band) protecting their home from two hapless and destructive hunters, complete with acrobatics, stunts, explosions. And then for good measure&nbsp;they even have to face&nbsp;the hunters&#39; animals - a&nbsp;hawk and a dog.&nbsp; Elliot - co-director of the award-winning Bear &amp; the Hare ad for John Lewis - uses his in-depth understanding of animation and special effects in this well-crafted&nbsp;perfect marriage of live-action, VFX and stop-motion animation.

A classic Christmassy tune given an indie-acoustic makeover, some splendid old school cartoon animation, and a girl who know what she wants... it's Elliot Dear's charming and very entertaining video for Baby It's Cold Outside' by She &amp; Him, otherwise known as Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward.

While Zooey and M's rendition of the song flips the original boy/girl dynamic around, Elliot transforms the singers into two-dimensional cartoon lookalikes in a MGM cartoon version of an MGM musical, and interprets the song's flirtatious and slightly ominous lyrics with a cheeky dose of humour. 

Zooey becomes a seasonal vamp praying on the skittish Mr Ward, preventing him from escaping their cosy cabin to the wintry landscape beyond (the work of background designer Tom Clohosy Cole) with a series of elaborate stunts. But with a little bit of mistletoe, things are set to turn around...

He's best known for his work in animation - in particular his promos for King Creosote and Jon Hopkins - but Elliot Dear has made a very assured and distinctive venture into live action for Francois and the Atlas Mountains' City Kiss.
Deep in snowy London, Francois is lost between a band performance and a trip out on the Docklands Railway in search of a girl, while in the grip of a nasty bout of narcolepsy. Elliot creates an inspired dreamworld around the singer - including an Inception-style sequence on a train. Very good indeed.

A really delightful video for King Creosote and Jon Hopkins' lovely Bubble by the very talented animator Elliot Dear, who merges reality with fantasy - a coastal town becomes one with its watery reflection.
Having graduated from the UWE with a first in illustration, this is Elliot's first job since signing recently with Blinkink. He brought a very distinctive working method to the project. "Despite the non-existent budget he built the video as sets, which he then rotoscoped," explains producer James Stevenson Bretton. "We blagged him five days in a basement to shoot it."

Music Matters is the new campaign backed across the music industry to highlight the importance and value of music, and to educate consumers on how to identify legitimate music services.It has a dedicated <a href="http://www.whymusicmatters.org/" target="_blank">website</a>, events planned around the UK, and has the support of leading music retailers. And the campaign was launched in March with a series of seven short animated films about inspirational artists who have dedicated their lives to music and contributed greatly to the cultural landscape.Working within the campaign concept, different up-and-coming filmmakers and animators have given their interpretations of the lives of those artists, from influential bluesman Blind Willie Johnson to The Jam, to Sigur Ros and Nick Cave.Bristol-based Elliot Dear - aka Winter Champion - is the only filmmaker who tackled two films, telling the stories of two remarkable musicians: John Martyn and Kate Bush. &quot;I come from a background in illustration, but feel that I can say a lot more with moving image, as it allows me to incorporate sound and music,&quot; says Elliot. &quot;I think that music and animation often go hand in hand very well and can complement each other to become something more than they could be on their own.&quot;Elliot Dear: &quot;When I heard about the project, I had been listening to a lot of John Martyn. He has always been a favourite in our family and I grew up with his music always in the background - my mum listening to it or my brother learning how to play his songs on the guitar. But it wasn&#39;t until I saw recently, a documentary about his life, that I began to realise how interesting he was as a person and how unusual both his personal and professional lives had been.&quot;I was fascinated to learn about the contrast between his boisterous and mischievous tendencies and his beautiful, soulful music. I decided to use his story to pitch my aesthetic ideas for the Music Matters project, as I thought he was a person worth telling people about. People agreed.&quot;ED: &quot;It was suggested to me that I use Kate Bush&#39;s story for the next film. My previous experiences of Kate had been limited to her most well known songs (Wuthering Heights, Running Up That Hill), but after hearing her albums coming from the room of one of my housemates, I realised there&#39;s a lot more to her than meets the eye. I learned that she has an interesting philosophy and approach to making music.&quot;Of course, Kate&#39;s visual performances are as powerful as her music, and the eccentricity displayed would probably distract many people from the music itself. I thought it was important to capture the essence of what Kate Bush is visually - smoke machines, flowing cloth, wind in the hair, sparkly things - and use them as devices in the film.
