Will Clark directs a curiously enigmatic promo for pianist and composer Neil Cowley's new album Battery Life, where the director visualises elements of the music in an&nbsp;an evocative string of abstract vignettes.Clark places Cowley at the core of a series of these moments, that tread a line between dreamworld and reality, as a gardener, making symbolic movements with a real spade.&nbsp;The composition of the visual - in particular the close-up shots of objects and details - helps elevate the dreamlike vibe of the piece, and builds upon the themes of missing memories and gaps in the narrative of events.[imgtoken data:1]"Battery Life is an album of abstract memories and stolen excerpts," Clark explains.&nbsp;"It is Neil’s perception of the past before the detail is filled in. Gregg Houston directs a short visual for singer-songwriter Kathleen Francis - one of a series of video-portraits&nbsp;by the director&nbsp;to accompany the release of Frances's&nbsp;debut EP&nbsp;Through The Blue.Taking place on the open water, the short length of the piece doesn't dilute the emotional pull of the visual for the song Boy, which consists of Frances staring straight ahead as the camera slowly zooms into her face, an ambiguous look that perfectly suits the downtempo track."In her stills and imagery there has always been a really beautiful and simple approach that I have found really intriguing," says Houston, who was approached by Kathleen Frances's label 7476 to create the portrait series to sit alongside snippets of four tracks from the EP."The use of film in her imagery made 16mm the natural choice for this series. This is the second portrait to be released and possibly my favourite of the four. I just love the way Kathleen stares down the camera with such a powerful force as the river was gushing around us."Jed Darlington-Roberts really delivered for me and I am forever grateful. If we had enough film I would have liked it to run for the entire performance with Kathleen staring down the lens. That feeling of intrigue I got from her in the stills I had seen translated here to me in the moment and it was a wonderful experience."&nbsp;

Lily Rose Thomas directs a strongly relatable promo for Bessie Turner's Rushing.&nbsp;In contrast to the title of the track, the first three-quarters of the video is captured in a handful of lingering slow-zooms, with Turner placed at different positions in her flat. The mood is one of someone atuck inside, filling time, and becoming steadily more&nbsp;stir crazy.But then it jumps into a frenzied climax, where the camera is let loose and the artist's performance becomes suitably untethered. The journey of the visuals reflects that of the lyrics, and is captured with a cool cinematic eye by Lily Rose Thomas - heavily pregnant at the time.[imgtoken data:1]

You Me At Six unplug from the grid, in Cass Virdee's sci-fi inspired promo for Suckapunch.&nbsp;In Virdee's second video for the band, following the choreography and performance piece for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2020/09/24/you-me-six-beautiful-way-cass-virdee/66839" target="_blank">Beautiful Way</a> earlier this year, the concept follows a group of people who attempt to break free from 'the network', only to be hunted and incapacitated by its enimgatic protector.&nbsp;Taking plenty of cues from science fiction and tech thrillers, the video investigates life, freedom and addiction to technology.&nbsp;Following You Me At Six's dive into heavier, more electronic sounds - reminiscent of Pendulum and The Prodigy at times -&nbsp;the video encapsulates the band's high-energy style.

Isaac Tomiczek's poignant&nbsp;short film Vacant Bass explores the impact of clubbing on multiculturalism, and the sense of loss as club culture has come under threat in recent times - and then wiped out entirely by the Covid crisis this year.&nbsp;Combing hypnotic photography of well-known (and now-deserted) London venues with heartfelt and honest voiceovers from an array of people, the film is a timely and thought-provoking reminder of the impact clubs and clubbing culture have had on Britain, as experienced by black people.Originally broadcast on Channel 4 as part of their Black And Proud season - which celebrated Black lives and Black culture throughout Black History Month - the film has touched a nerve and resonated with people who are either craving a rave right now, or reflecting on the good times they had when clubs were open for business.The result is frank, informative, passionate and optimistic, with doses of bittersweet nostalgia. There is also a welcome&nbsp; feelgood factor&nbsp;- something we could all definitely do with at the moment.
