Little Simz and Dave Meyers. Yes, it's happened - and it's amazing. This is an utterly brilliant video, for Simz's Gorilla. Unquestionably one of the best of the year so far.Dave Meyers does what he has done so well for so long: bringing a book full of jawdropping visual ideas and executing them to perfection, with the considerable assistance of a great team. But at the end of the day, you just get the sense that this would not work half as well without the sheer high voltage charisma of the artist otherwise known as Simbiatu Abisola Abiola Ajikawo.Little Simz is just fantastic in this. It's a&nbsp;vehicle that is worthy of&nbsp;her talent, and just shows how great she is. In fact, it takes her&nbsp;to the next level.&nbsp;It just demonstrates that in terms of British artists at the moment, she really has no peer.So presumably she's headlining the Pyramid at Glasto this weekend, right...?[imgtoken data:1][imgtoken data:2][imgtoken data:3]

Dave Meyers directs a high-concept fairytale fantasy for&nbsp;Megan Thee Stallion's team-up&nbsp;Dua Lipa.Based on a concept by Megan Thee Stallion, the video follows two men as they wander into an otherworldly forest, before encountering the artists as you've never seen them before.&nbsp;Dark, sultry and enigmatic, the pair are introduced in the throws of a chaotic abode, which has gyrating legs for doors and a neverending spiral of spiky teeth lining the walls inside.&nbsp;The video only gets more absurd and visually complex from there, and the sheer scale of the concept - and the staggering amount of VFX&nbsp;work - pays off in an explosion of glossy set pieces and first class performances.&nbsp;It's jawdropping work - but that is what we have come to expect from the&nbsp;remarkable Dave Meyers and the brilliant team around him.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]

Dave Meyers directs an emotional and pertinent&nbsp;visual for Anderson Paak's Lockdown.Reflecting on racial injustice, police brutality and the global pandemic, the video is an introspective exploration of how society has reached its tipping point, and a call for systematic change.&nbsp;Featuring cameos from&nbsp;Dominic Fike,&nbsp;Andra Day, Jay Rock, Syd of the Internet and .Paak's son Soul Rasheed, amongst others,&nbsp;Lockdown is made up of several performance vignettes, stylised in a subtle way with offbeat angles and composition, but pared down from some of Meyers' more fantastical work. The intimate performances are the focus here, and the video ensures&nbsp;the issues at hand remain centre-stage.&nbsp;The animation at the end of the video, detailing the names of those killed through police brutality, is a striking wake up call: "The People Are Rising". Begging with a bunch of suits back at the studio, she takes her career into her own hands when they deny her a role as an action movie heroine.&nbsp;The black and white visual is soaked in the glamour and nostalgia of old Hollywood, paying homage to the time period through everything from high contrast lighting to the Art Deco-inspired set dressing. And the introduction of Dababy keeps the story powering forward, offering Camila a way out of her predicament.DoP Scott Cunningham utilises whip pans and rapid camera movement to keep up the pace and intensity, and the art direction takes us through the decades, building to an explosive climax - in Cinemascope and Technicolor -&nbsp;when Cabello finally gets her way, echoing&nbsp;Kill Bill&nbsp;and other badass female action films&nbsp;we take for granted in contemporary cinema.&nbsp;With plenty of his offbeat humour on-screen, Meyers also appears in a rare cameo as a scriptwriter, rounding off a brilliant cast of no-nonsense, greedy business-types. Cabello is brilliant as always, diving headfirst into the multifaceted role and making the whole thing believable. Magical work from an ambitious creative team.&nbsp;

He is never afraid to explore the absurd whilst still keeping it grounded and emotionally affecting. Great stuff.

It's homage galore in the new video for Antisocial, directed by Dave Meyers, and if you've ever wanted to see Ed Sheeran in Day of the Dead makeup, your dreams have just come true.Shot in a series of short, self-contained vignettes, there are references to Pulp Fiction, Edward Scissorhands, The Mask,&nbsp;and even Björk's Army Of Me -&nbsp;featuring a very Gondry-esque dentist scene. And somehow it all works together.The video is completely batshit crazy, and most importantly, unforgettable. There are very few artists who could be this comfortable and confident being so goofy, and Meyers does an outstanding job with Sheeran and Scott, never letting either of them lose whichever quirky character they are playing.&nbsp;

Mendes and Cabello, lost souls in a hot city,&nbsp;have a short-lived romance in this sun-soaked vignette by Dave Meyers, his latest collab with Camila.This style of sexually-charged crossover is so well worn, it almost qualifies as a genre. See SparkNotes on Madonna, Drake, Xtina and Rihanna. But watching this video, which is by no means provocative, it may occur to you how safe previous incarnations of this genre have tended to be. Despite being billed (and widely misremembered) as sizzling, risqué videos, they now seem incredibly coy about their subject. Namely, sex. Strong eye contact does not a romance make.In Señorita, Cabello sings about going “back to the hotel”, and then she and Mendes do just that. They have a one-night stand, and are confused about the encounter afterwards. Which feels oddly refreshing. Thanks to their chemistry, and a commitment to the subject of their song, the video sets a new bar for its form.
