Some relationships don&#39;t exactly turn out for the best, as Josh Thomas and Darcy Prendergast illustrate perfectly in this creature mini-feature for Millington.It&#39;s a simple, common tale of girl meets boy, girl falls in love, boy turns out to be a hideous parasitic creature that fuses to her, impregnates her after a drug-fuelled night and causes terrible amounts of misery and bloodshed.The video is hilarious and disgusting from the get-go and just when you think you know how it&#39;s gonna wrap-up, they serve you a gory curve ball. With some incredible prosthetics and VFX work, mixed in with strong, humourous storytelling, this video (unlike the parasite it follows) doesn&#39;t outstay its welcome.

The World of Our Love also happens to be a hyper-colourful animated utopia celebrating all things Australian.Mike Greaney and Aaron McDonald have crafted a brilliant short clip that both manages to seem pulpishly&nbsp;modern whilst also feeling a little bit like an animated PSA film from the 80s.This is a fun video laced with Aussie symbolism and reference from the silly and obvious to the downright obscure. Fosters, Koalas, time literally melting away on a Barbecue - it&#39;s all here.&nbsp;My personal favourite was probably the &#39;Struth&#39; brand blender, but it all moves so fast that you&#39;ll probably miss about 90% of it on first watch.

Here&#39;s a remarkable achievement by Darcy Prendergast and Xin Li at Melbourne-based Oh Yeah Wow. The video for The Jezabels&#39; Come Alive is the animated story of a woman being chased by a horde of torch-bearing men, and facing a terrible fate - created in oil paint on glass, and animated frame by frame.The beautiful painterly effect is akin to a watching a moving painting, and there are hints of the work of great artists, including Goya and Turner, and then the epic cataclysms of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Martin_(painter)" target="_blank">John Martin</a>, in how the story develops. In its way, something of a masterpiece...

Focussing on the human face has been a path to music video immortality for over thirty years - ever since <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxtPRF6NG7I" target="_blank">Godley &amp; Creme&#39;s Cry</a>, and arguably&nbsp;all the way to&nbsp;<a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2013/09/25/miley-cyrus-wrecking-ball-directors-cut-terry-richardson" target="_blank">Miley&#39;s Wrecking Ball</a> - by way, of course, of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUiTQvT0W_0" target="_blank">Sinead&#39;s Nothing Compares 2 U</a>.&nbsp;But nothing quite matches the sheer mindboggling ambition of Darcy Prendergast&#39;s video for The Paper Kites&#39; Young. Created out of Darcy&#39;s celebrated Melbourne-based studio Oh Yeah Wow, this is a performance of the song by a rapid-fire sequence of hundreds of faces, from thousands of photos. Portrait photography meets stop-motion animation, and the effect is almost overwhelming.&nbsp;Here are the stats: more than&nbsp;350&nbsp;faces were shot in Melbourne &quot;from Brunswick to Brighton&quot;, and it took 10 days to assemble more than 3000 photos. Darcy enlisted photographer Oli Sansom to ensure every one of the 350 extras were shot in perfect alignment.&nbsp;The whole point is to reflect the song&#39;s themes, about the fine line between individuality and conformity. Darcy was animator of the Goyte's <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watchv=oyVJsg0XIIk" target="_blank">Eyes Wide Open</a> video. After that, Wally De Backer (aka Goyte) was keen for Darcy and his team to make the video for Easy Way Out. It turned out to be an amazingly ambitious synthesis of stop motion and live action - tieing in with the theme of the song and the depressive effect of repetition - that was a whopping nine months in the making. 
The clip was shot using a complex mathematic formula and 360 pan motion control rig that rotated within their custom-built five-room set - practically a small house built within the studio. 
The creativity is brilliant, but the mood, as with Somebody I Don't Know and his other videos, is almost refreshingly downbeat. Wally/Goyte is stuck in a circle of repetition from which he can't break free, and then a graphic spiraling descent to disaster... 
The studio will be releasing a 'Making Of' clip and have behind the scenes photos available on their Facebook page...
