Liam Gallagher and Christmas - on the face of it, not the likeliest combination. But Anthony Byrne manages to reconcile this&nbsp;apparent contradiction in his video for All You're Dreaming Of.Not that Yuletide is explicitly mentioned here, but Byrne keeps things simple yet seasonal, with Liam being his unsmiling, arguably Grinch-like self in a couple of reasonably festive settings. Working with editor Chris Roebuck, he has layered images over each other to inject a dreamier atmosphere. And as with his previous video for Gallagher, for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/08/30/liam-gallagher-one-us-anthony-byrne/60493" target="_blank">One Of Us</a>, the director best known for his work on Peaky Blinders completed this one in black and white.Ultimately it's Liam's heartfelt delivery of the song that gets the seasonal spirit flowing - and also sparks memories of his great inspiration John Lennon, who died 40 years ago this month.And as all the proceeds of the release will be donated to the charity&nbsp;<a href="https://www.actionforchildren.org.uk/" target="_blank">Action For Children UK</a>, Liam really is more like Santa than that gruff exterior suggests.

Sye Allen's poignant short film The Empty Chair&nbsp;is about the big stuff - loss, grief, reflections upon the life of a loved one. The beauty lies in how he handles this subject matter - it's direct and intimate, and all the more powerful, humane and uplifting&nbsp;as a result.&nbsp;The form of the film is simple and straightforward: the words of a fulsome eulogy to a departed loved one, read by actress Kate Dickie, accompany images of absence, of his regular haunts: the football stand, the church pews, the cinema stalls and pub stool - and his favourite armchair at home.Allen also wrote and produced this labour of love - ably assisted by a small platoon of music video-making veterans, and his production company Burning Reel -&nbsp;and he succeeds in achieving a balance of emotion and believability without spilling too far into sentimentality. There is also a lovely original soundtrack by Nico Casal, accompanying Dickie's performance.Not surprisingly, the pandemic was a big influence on the making of the film - as Sye Allen explains below. One of the top&nbsp;music video editors in London, Chris Roebuck was preparing for an exciting move into editing drama - and then the lockdown hit. But he has found plenty of consolation working from home.With a young family - here's Chris with his daughters, five year old Orla (right) and five month old Edie&nbsp;-&nbsp;it's given him more time to be Dad, and wonder if this may well be a better way of working.And it's also resulted in him directing his first music video in years...What were you working on before the lockdown? The last music video I worked on was React&nbsp;for The Pussycat Dolls with Bradley&amp;Pablo. In a way, this was a great thing to have done in February because with B&amp;P being in LA and myself in London, it was great practice for the social distancing lockdown. Lots of screen-sharing and phone calls. However, I did have the added bonus of spending the entire night (editing) with Nicole Scherzinger in the edit suite. She is lovely! That was one hell of a long day.[vidtoken data:0]Just before lockdown, I had been editing a beautiful film for Co-op’s Easter campaign directed by the all-round legend Joe Connor at Rogue for agency Lucky Generals. Unfortunately and quite understandably, Co-op deemed Easter eggs to be a non-essential item during the pandemic so donated the commercial’s air time to the cause. They have it in the back pocket for next year though.Coronavirus destruction didn’t end there as after Co-op, I was about to begin cutting Series 6 of Peaky Blinders,&nbsp;alongside the brilliant drama editor Paul Knight, with director Anthony Byrne at the helm. Lockdown and safety of the cast and crew put a stop to that. But we will be able to get going on this again soon we hope! I’m very excited.What are you working on now? Right now I am working remotely on a series of TV commercials for ASDA’s Creating Change For Better&nbsp;campaign with AMV BBDO. iPhone footage galore.&nbsp;What's the most surprising, or least predictable thing, that's happened to you during quarantine? There are two things that have surprised me the most about being in quarantine: Just how successful working from home can be; and feeling closer to family, friends and colleagues than before lockdown.I had often taken projects home to make changes or continue working after a day at the office, but I hadn’t really considered the prospect of doing whole jobs at home. It feels like 2020 has been the year of Zoom but it really has revolutionised editing with directors who can’t attend edits for whatever reason. Obviously this has been discovered out of necessity in the current situation, but it has worked so well&nbsp;that I am wondering if things will ever go back to the way they were. I’ve really enjoyed it because I get to work on cool projects with great friends without leaving the comfort of my own home. Result!<blockquote>Zoom really has revolutionised editing. I am wondering if things will ever go back to the way they were.</blockquote>Zoom has also brought me closer with my family and friends. We’ve had numerous quiz nights and catch ups which has been great as the rest of my family live in Nottingham, so I didn’t get to see them that often with working long hours in the suite. Now my suite is at home - it’s much easier to find the time.It’s also been easier to chat with the rest of the guys at tenthree. Everyone is so busy at the office usually, that some days you can go into the edit suite and not see anyone else all day. However, as it’s not physically possible to see everyone at the moment, we’ve made a point to do a weekly company catch up on Zoom on Friday’s. It’s bring your own booze of course but resident mixologist Blaine Pearson is on hand with some cracking cocktail recommends!What's the favourite part of your daily routine? When I have a job on, my favourite part of the daily routine is spending time with the kids at meal times and when waiting for client feedback. It’s so nice to be at home and be able to see them more - they are so much fun!When I don’t have a job on, I go into full Dad-mode which I have loved being able to do!Are things getting harder/better/staying the same? It’s hard to say at the moment as I’ve been fortunate enough to keep busy on projects. It took a couple of days getting used to working in lockdown, and having a five year old daughter and five month old baby girl around but I think we’ve sort of found our ‘new norm’.Juggling work, home-schooling and trying to keep everyone’s spirits high is hard&nbsp;work! My wife Sarah is the secret weapon though, she is a reception teacher on maternity leave, so we have a little advantage when it comes to home-schooling. She’s amazing!What have you learned about yourself during quarantine? On Day 12 of lockdown, Orla, my daughter came up to me and asked “Dad, can we make a music video...?”. It was so cool that she had taken an interest in what I do as a career so of course I said yes.Her favourite band is Little Mix and she really wanted to make a video to one of their songs. I was 17 the last time I directed anything, so I also found it pretty exciting to do something I didn’t do everyday. We’ve been getting creative in our house and making some killer scone dough pizza’s - so tasty! BBC’s Line Of Duty&nbsp;is something that I’ve always wanted to watch. I’ve missed every series so far, so Sarah and I binged watched all five seasons in the evenings in a matter of weeks. So good! Unfortunately Series 6 of the show had the same fate as Peaky Blinders at the start of the pandemic, so it’s on hold for now but I can’t wait to see what the next series holds when they are allowed to shoot it![vidtoken data:2]How's your Work/Life balance at the moment? Pretty great at the moment! Being at home and being able to instantly rejoin my family in down time is the best feeling ever! It’s so easy to throw yourself into a project and get in the zone that hours can pass by and you can become so disconnected with life going on around you. Bradley&amp;Pablo usher in a new era of the Pussycat Dolls with the sultry video for React.Picking up where they left off over a decade ago, the group (minus one member in Melody Thornton) deliver an explosive performance packed full of their trademark dance breaks and choreography.Shot across a series of industrial setups with rain and pyrotechnic effects, the vibrant visuals are simple in concept but showcase an exciting renewed sense of energy, proving the Dolls are back to fight for their spot in the charts - and it’s working.It’s an impressive comeback that is aided by superb cinematography from Danny Hiele and a talented team of creatives behind the scenes. It's the morning after the night before... and trying to get ready for the day is quite a struggle for this bunch of super-hungover party animals, in Alex Southam's very enjoyable video for Roberto Surace's dance anthem JOYS.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;While an&nbsp;angry girlfriend is pounding the door and unleashing hell on her stupefied boyfriend, his crashed-out guests start to rise from where they fell, and find themselves conflicted - dancing back into their jeans, their&nbsp;bottom halves almost ready to get to the 9 to 5, while&nbsp;their top halves still trapped in last night's party.So we get a different type of drunk dancing... In a ludicrous and offbeat series of events, these guys&nbsp;don't really get anywhere, instead stumbling around the house in awkward unison until they all fall right back into place.Appropriately enough there are lots of joys to be had here&nbsp;- and the track is something&nbsp;of a banger too.

Georgia strolls through a desert wilderness in this simple, celestial video by Joe Connor.On a breezy evening, Connor took a skeleton crew of five to the Jordanian desert, a decision that gives Georgia free rein of a sublime, dramatic landscape. Then he placed the footage in the capable hands of Black Kite Studios, who delivered the stellar sky work.The team used Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night as a guiding principle, and in the closing moments of Never Let Me Go, the video conjures the spectre of that painting with a magical, billowing skyline.

Wait— how did they do that? Saam Farahmand’s grand, torch song of a video is a lesson in delayed gratification. Look away for a moment and you’ll miss what makes it so compelling.Don't Leave Me Lonely doesn’t need a lot of exposition. Ronson and YEBBA perform back-to-back in a vast, dark courtyard. A couple of electronic lights flicker into life in the far distance. Nothing of note happens for a while. Then, somewhere - and this word is key, as it’s a challenge to say exactly when it happens - dawn arrives. And as the song comes to a climax, and the two are surrounded by an expressionless army of witnesses. The impact of this trick is difficult to explain. You’re left with the impression of a slick studio performance video with the spirit of an emotive, spontaneous performance.Farahmand’s experimental impulses defined a very specific era of indie music videos. His work was prototypical for premier British scenesters: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PElhV8z7I60">The XX</a>, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-SJjFcnsGs">Klaxons</a>, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzHwRcOsDNw">These New Puritans</a> and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49ZVEt2X3GA">Tom Vek</a>. In fact, his ubiquity in the late noughties lead to <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/music/2011/nov/21/saam-farahmand-klaxons-dancing-absolut">an article in The Guardian</a> referring to him as “one of the most talented music video directors of his generation.” More recently, he has had a productive working relationship with Mick Jagger, making a series of politically charged videos featuring Luke Evans and Jemima Kirke.One of his crowning videos was for the low-charting Mark Ronson single <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2010/10/18/mark-ronsons-somebody-love-me-feat-boy-george-saam-farahmand/6554">Somebody to Love Me</a>. Despite being only 5 minutes long, the visual, a fictional home movie starring Diane Kruger as Boy George, managed to not only fool a vast audience into believing its archive footage conceit, but also completely eclipse a Boy George biopic released in the same year. It’s a shot of nostalgia that remains equally as stirring today as it was in 2010.Don’t Leave Me Lonely is Farahmand’s first collaboration with Ronson in nine years. May there be many more.

Nostalgia takes hold in the video for Liam Gallagher's One Of Us. Written by Peaky Blinders creator Stephen Knight, and directed by Season 5 director&nbsp;Anthony Byrne, we see Gallagher climb a hill populated by large photographs of his childhood, shot across different time periods of his life.He then comes face-to-face with himself as a young child and as a teenage boy, and the three versions of Gallagher explore the vast landscape&nbsp;in haunting&nbsp;scenes focused on&nbsp;longing and reflection. The idea of time rushing by and lost moments is further explored with some clever in-camera trickery by DoP&nbsp;David Chizallet, with the cast appearing and disappearing from screen via sweeping camera movements, reminding viewers they are transcendent memories of a time gone by.&nbsp;The choice to shoot the video in black and white gives it a gritty aesthetic, whilst also helping tie the different time periods together, giving it a universal and timeless appeal.&nbsp;

Fasten your seatbelts as Eoin Glaister takes a traumatised young girl into the world's weirdest order of nuns - born to worship and trained to kill - for Carnage.Papi Gordo,&nbsp;aka DJ and producer Carnage has undergone a kind of soul revival. He took a hiatus in late 2018 to do a little soul searching in the mountains of Central America and Asia, and after four months, he's re-emerged with his third single of the year, Holy Moly. And&nbsp;the main character of Glaister's video (played by&nbsp; undergoes her own strange soul search - but this one begins and ends with blood.Holy Moly&nbsp;is a wild three-and-a-half-minute ride with all the highly-produced trappings of a classic horror&nbsp;film. Complete with hyper-violence and brawling women of the cloth, there are unmistakeable touches of Dario Argento, while the plot vaguely mirrors that of the fictional-film 'Blood Sister: One Tough Nun', from David Foster Wallace's Infinite Jest. Maybe that's what Carnage was up to while he was out there finding his inner voice?It's funny, it's horrifying, it's definitely worth a watch.&nbsp;

"Modern love is limitless" in this subversive, near-future video directed by&nbsp;Bradley&amp;Pablo.Charli XCX was last seen riding a space-dolphin with Diplo and Herve Pagez. And here, she continues her campaign of pop futurism.&nbsp;In this fragrance commercial from the year 2023, she introduces us to a&nbsp;young community of transgressive artists: ‘fertility nymphs’, ‘intimacy revivalists’, ‘K9 filterheads’ and ‘sea level survivalists’.There is a welcome cameo from pop powerhouse Lizzo. Even in this untypically low-key perfomance, the singer/rapper has charisma in buckets and an enviable presence. As two agents of body positivity and allies of the queer community, she and XCX make a great match.Bradley&amp;Pablo's video is an amusing, affectionate slant on a commercial style pioneered by Calvin Klein.&nbsp;The white vests, mixed-format aesthetic, iconic CK font, and celebration of young, queer couples are straight out of Mario Sorrenti’s star-studded campaign for CK One.

But then the performance of In Degrees&nbsp;begins to switch seamlessly between daytime, and the band playing on a deserted modernist stage in the jungle, and then the nighttime equivalent, heaving with a dancing audience.Foals frontman Yannis&nbsp;Philippakis is the focal point throughout, but the beautifully crafted approach allows the viewer to gradually get inside the performance and the song.&nbsp;&nbsp;
