Isaac Ravishankara finds a highly original way to combine a storyline with music performance - inventively merging the two parts together in every shot - in his lovely video for&nbsp;George Ezra's Green Green Grass.Ravinshankara nods to a few screen classics and gives it a nice modern twist, with a diner-robbing loved-up couple also being females of a certain age. Meanwhile, George smoothly observes everything, telling the story of the 'young lovers' with his trusty guitar, all the way from the diner to getaway vehicle to the field where the pair bury their ill-gotten loot.&nbsp;The device of an on-screen musical narrator device is not remotely new, but Ravishankara takes it too a new level here, with a sense of fun that is entirely suitable to the George Ezra persona and musical oeuvre.Theoretically there is competition in every shot between the narrative and the performance. In fact, they work seamlessly together, due to the clever construction of the shots and also some terrific performances - from&nbsp;Amy Stoch and Michele Matheson as the happy criminals, and Ezra too.&nbsp;&nbsp;And it looks absolutely marvellous. DoP Logan Triplett filmed this on 2-perf 35 mm 200T 5213 film stock, so it always will.[imgtoken data:1]<blockquote>To pull this off turned out to be much harder than we thought.</blockquote>"The concept that came to mind when I first heard Green Green Grass was a simple narrative - two not-so-young lovers rob a diner, joyride out of town, and bury the money with the rest of their retirement fund out in the middle of nowhere then dance with joy. Pulp Fiction meets Thelma and Louise meets Harold and Maude," says Isaac Ravishankara."However, we really wanted to anchor the video on a unique and dynamic performance from George. I really loathe simply intercutting a performance with a narrative. So we proposed an experiment - what if George is performing WITHIN every shot of the narrative? What would that feel like?&nbsp;"To pull this off turned out to be much harder than we thought. Working with the wonderful DoP Logan Triplett, and our brilliant choreographers Jillian Meyers and Dana Wilson, we had to pre-visualize the video in advance to determine which shots in the narrative would correspond to which lines of performance. Then on the day, the concept was really brought to life by our two 'young lovers' - Amy Stoch and Michele Matheson - and obviously George Ezra as well!"In the end, I think it's really fun to be able to watch the video with a different focus each time, and I'm really excited by how the whole "experiment" turned out."&nbsp;&nbsp;

Stuart McIntyre directs a slow, steady and very absorbing music video for Deem Spencer's Shorty Pt. 3.&nbsp;The relaxed visuals start with Spencer&nbsp;in a blank room with just his head and shoulders showing. Styled in a bandana and a T-shirt, the minimalist art direction and wardrobe mirrors the stripped-back track. Shot in a variety of long takes, Shorty Pt. 3 moves at its own pace, with only a handful of shots in the whole project.&nbsp;One great thing about the slower editing style is the ability to really look into a scene as we watch it. As the pacing and editing within music videos gets faster and faster, we have adapted to quickly picking out what we need to see&nbsp;before the image cuts to another shot. There is none of that here, as viewers are invited to watch the performance, generate ideas about the locations and scenery and really connect to the track and visual.&nbsp;Untraditional but very effective, this simple concept is elevated by the sense of calm that radiates from both the video and Spencer's performance throughout.&nbsp;

Presented with a searingly powerful Foals song called Black Bull, Niall O'Brien does not shy away from keeping it uncomplicated - and taking this project by the horns.On the one hand&nbsp;there's a breathtakingly rampant&nbsp;band performance; on the other there is the breathtakingly fearsome bull.&nbsp;O'Brien devotes his energies to a wonderful execution of both elements.Foals' performance has layers of cinematic quality - and one 35mm&nbsp;performance, shot by Paul Özgür, dovetails with authentic&nbsp;concert footage - both shot at their recent show in Kingston.Meanwhile, the awesome black bull prowls a bullring, wearing a garland - never looking more than a few short steps from the camera, its black horns glistening under lights, its movement&nbsp;captured in slow motion. The contrast with the performance footage is intense, yet they complement each other so well - brought together in a&nbsp;consummate edit by&nbsp;Matt Berardi.Beautiful&nbsp;and thrilling, the video is an object lesson in keeping it straightforward, and knocking it out the park.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Woe betide anyone who comes between a man and his lunchtime sandwich...but director Jonny Look has made a really marvellous spectacle from this simple premise, for New York musician&nbsp;Joe Russo's very cinematic Phér•Bŏney Love Theme.It's a comic choreography in the tradition of the classic Hollywood musical, or Broadway musical for that matter. Maybe back in the midcentury&nbsp;days, Donald O'Connor did something similar in Singin' In The Rain, or another musical. But the star of the show here is Will Hines, as the everyman caught up amongst a group of irrepressible, but overbearing dance kids in the school cafeteria. And they are keen to stop him from enjoying his sarnie, perhaps with good reason...The dancers are also great - and the choreography by Erin Murray is a nailed-on joy.&nbsp;And a&nbsp;fab debut on Promonews for the fabulously-named Jonny Look.&nbsp;

Having burst into our consciousness with Malamente and Piensu En Tu Mira, Flamenco-pop queen Rosalía moves from her collaboration with UKMVAs&#39; Best Directors CANADA to Henry Scholfield, the Best Pop Video UK winner of the past two years,&nbsp;for her stunning third video...And after <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2018/07/31/rosal%C3%ADa-malamente-cap1-augurio-canada/54330" target="_blank">Augurio</a> and <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2018/07/31/rosal%C3%ADa-pienso-en-tu-mir%C3%A1-cap3-celos-canada/54331" target="_blank">Celos</a>, we&#39;ve arrived at&nbsp;Éxtasis (or Ecstasy) for Di Mi Nombre, as we follow Rosalía on a pas de deux with the camera, recounting a story of a single sexual encounter, through its stages of passion, in a series of long take sequences. With Scholfield working with choreographer Charm La Donna, this is a journey through the&nbsp;spectrum of emotions - fantasy, doubt, lust &ndash; of&nbsp;un amor brujo&nbsp;(a bewitched love).it opens with a contemporary take on a controversial masterpiece - Goya&#39;s&nbsp;La Maja, which he painted twice, with the subject clothed in one,&nbsp;and nude in the other. Rosalía, on the bed that is focus of most of the action,&nbsp;is most certainly clothed here, and there&#39;s barely any flesh on show. But the sexuality, passion, and lust, is all there from start to finish. You just need to understand the language to fully appreciate it.Scholfield says: &ldquo;I&rsquo;d heard Rosalía&rsquo;s music back in January. I was enamoured by the raw, soulfulness of it and when we met it made sense. She&rsquo;s got a kind of deep river of emotion that runs through her, so for us it was just a case of finding the way to dip into it and translate it to screen.&rdquo;
