British singer and producer&nbsp;Wesley Joseph self-directs the mesmerising video for his track Patience, with featured artist Jorja Smith as his co-star - in his first outing since signing to the directing roster at Stink Rising.As with his excellent self-directed videos for&nbsp;<a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2021/03/24/wesley-joseph-thrilla-wesley-joseph/70135" target="_blank">Thrilla</a> and <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2021/05/21/wesley-joseph-ultramarine-wesley-joseph/71001" target="_blank">Ultramarine</a>,&nbsp;Joseph creates a visually striking world with a dreamlike quality, comprising of&nbsp;apparently disconnected&nbsp;scenes - teenagers united in grief, two young boys happy on their bikes, an outburst of violence, and so on - which gain meaning when taken as a whole.&nbsp;Wesley and Jorja witness these hyperreal, humanist&nbsp;scenes as they drive&nbsp;through their hometown in a white vintage Mercedes. And while distracted by the visions they see, they are involved in a&nbsp;head-on collision.[imgtoken data:1]In the aftermath of the wreck, both artists perform in the carnage of the accident, and then into a metaphorical 'heaven-like' space. The dramatic subnarratives that they saw earlier outside the car come to an emotive conclusion at the end.Joseph performs from within an expanse of flowers as if he is visiting his own graveside, while Jorja Smith arrives as a presence in the video as the mortally injured victim, hurled away from the flaming car.[imgtoken data:2]The video,&nbsp;shot over two days in&nbsp;Surrey, is redolent of Kendrick Lamar's videos, particularly the video for Element, and the work of David Lynch. It's&nbsp;the latest and most substantial work yet from the Birmingham-born musician, producer and filmmaker, who originally came to London&nbsp;in 2016 to study film, and then began making music, and is now proving to be successful in both fields.Joseph now joins the Stink Rising roster, and will be globally represented by the new talent division of Stink Films, the production company with offices around the world.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:3]“I’m really excited to be joining forces with the visionaries at Stink Films," he says. Travis Scott, White Trash Tyler and Jordan Hemingway join forces to direct&nbsp;the video for Franchise.&nbsp;Featuring M.I.A and Young Thug, the ambitious promo follows Travis Scott&nbsp;through Michael Jordan's LA mansion, with an array of&nbsp;Jodorowsky and Warhol-inspired imagery.&nbsp;With cameos from Michael Jordan himself and the Clermont twins, the visual is an homage to pop culture in all its glory - and of course the brilliance of Jordan, as documented in The Last Dance.&nbsp;Jordan Hemingway’s directing contribution&nbsp;comes in the shape of a thousand sheep surrounding a flower-adorned M.I.A. in an impossible scene of esoteric prowess. Never one to do things by halves, M.I.A is electrifying in her presence, effortlessly pulling off the Midsommar-inspired outfit whilst handling an unruly wave of farm animals.&nbsp;Stunningly bonkers and high concept, the visual is a testament to its many collaborators and creative minds - totally sporadic and spontaneous, but everyone contributing to the&nbsp;ultimate vision.&nbsp;

Otis Dominique and Ellington Hammond co-direct this celebration of Black lives, for Jorja Smith's By Any Means, the lead release of Roc Nation's&nbsp;Reprise project, comprised of multiple artists uniting to let their voices be heard in musical protest.Working with producer Precious Mahaga and DoP Joel Honeywell, the video is a breathtaking series of photojournalistic&nbsp;portraits documenting the breadth of the Black British experience, intercut with Jorja Smith's performance of By Any Means. Conceived by Jorja Smith and Hammond, her longtime collaborator, London-based Dominique joined to co-direct when it was clear that the American photographer and filmmaker would not be able to travel to the UK for the shoot.[imgtoken data:1]The first of a three day shoot was spent on the performance, shot at Jorja's home, in a more visually crafted set-up. That was followed by two whirlwind&nbsp;days shooting their documentary subjects, the first in various locations in London; the second in Luton, Birmingham and Walsall - Jorja Smith's hometown. The result is extraordinary - an extensive authentic snapshot of a nation.[imgtoken data:2]&nbsp;&nbsp;"We went all over the place, and when we couldn't make to everyone's homes, we had people come to meet us halfway," says Precious Mahaga, who like other crew members recruited family members to appear in the video. "In fact, Alice Dearing, the only Black member of the Great Britain swimming team, came all the way from Manchester and met us at my mum's house in Luton."[imgtoken data:3]They finished the shoot in Walsall, where Jorja Smith's cousin acted as unofficial casting agent, bringing together members of the community to appear in what turned out to be the final part of the video - an impromptu gathering, welcoming Jorja back home. "Our last shot was at Jorja's cousin's house - he phoned up a lot of people,"&nbsp;recalls Mahaga. "Jorja was there to sing the song, and she became really too emotional at that point to perform with everyone there."&nbsp;[imgtoken data:4]Jorja Smith has commented:&nbsp;“The inspiration behind ‘By Any Means’ really came from going to the Black Lives Matter protest and leaving thinking, what can I do to keep this conversation going? It’s not just a post on social media, it’s life.”A statement from Roc Nation adds: “This collection of songs was compiled with hopes to bring awareness to social justice issues. Rashid Babiker, who&#39;s first video was the excellent promo for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2018/10/15/jorja-smith-your-own-rashid-babiker/55494" target="_blank">Jorja Smith&#39;s On Your Own</a>, now directs Jorja with Maverick Sabre. They are two strangers who have an everyday, but quietly powerful&nbsp;encounter.Maverick plays the cab driver who picks up Jorja as his fare. The song Slow Down, and their performances, plus the graphic touches that Babiker provides allows you to take in the world and feel the atmosphere gradually building between the pair.It ends, in an intriguing way, with a bond seeming to appear between them - and then it&#39;s gone, probably forever. A resonant little cinematic episode, and a fine showcase for both artists.
