Singer-songwriter Laurel returns ahead of the release of her third album, with a playful promo for the title track directed by Abigail Wilson. The video for Crying On The Tennis Court is a nostalgia-washed dive into first love, heartbreak and the friendships that get you through it. Set in a British private school, the film blends VHS and digital footage to capture the chaos of being sixteen. All the 'schoolkids' in the video are clearly older than that, which contributes to the distinctive atmosphere created by Wilson - also aided by a magnificent country house location - flipping between Laurel's genuine emotion and some absurd events occuring around her. it's a standout visual with plenty of fun moments throughout - and a very welcome return to Abigail Wilson to music videos, with her first since Left Right Forward for Stone in 2023.

After the first videos filmed in Ghana, Ebeneza Blanche brings the story around the new Ezra Collective album to London, following the progress of two boys on a memorable night on the town. The video for Jubilee Feeling is arguably the centrepiece of the visual campaign created by Blanche and his team around the new Ezra album Here Because Of Hope. And this perfectly-formed short story has the gravity and attention to detail that makes it very special.Possibly influenced by Steve McQueen's seminal TV drama series Small Axe, it is so well crafted it could be an additional chapter of that show. The final moments of the video also transitions into Ezra's follow-up live track Black Flag.

Yasser Abubeker invites us into an ultra-cool nighttime world of sleek seduction for Kelela's steamy team-up with PinkPantheress. The video for The Bridge, is Abubeker's study in restraint and proximity with the two artists moving through the same space, held apart by it, and gradually pulled together. Meanwhile other couples, situated around a moody, depopulated darkening urban space are also being drawn towards each other. [imgtoken data:1]Set within a dimly-lit apartment, the video opens with Kelela and PinkPantheress in separate rooms, each carrying the same unspoken tension. The architecture does the work of keeping them apart, but as the track builds, that separation begins to dissolve. Movement takes over, spreading rhythmically between the two artists and the surrounding cast until the space between them collapses entirely.Yasser builds the film around a shared physical language, sustaining an erotic charge throughout, via the cinematography of Diara Sow and choreography by Mesh Henry. A gesture that begins in one room and concludes in another, bodies echoing one another across locations — so that the film feels physically interconnected long before its subjects ever meet.[imgtoken data:2] The visual leans into a cool, restrained palette of deep blacks, washed-out greens, and muted cyans, using directional light to carve pockets of illumination from the shadows and to separate figures within a single frame. Production design by Ranya El-Refaey grounds the world in the transitional, intimate spaces where the song lives. In the final section, Kelela and PinkPantheress occupy the same space for the first time. Their movement becomes mirrored and responsive as the camera circles them in a continuous orbit, tightening the frame as proximity increases — composure and yearning finally resolving into contact.Absorbing, beautiful and very cool indeed.

The first release from Ezra Collective's new album Here Because Of Hope comes with the first music video from Ebeneza Blanche in ages. It's a series of beautifully-realised vignettes filmed in Nigerian capital Lagos that establishes the visual identity for the album, conceived by Blanche in his role as creative director, through inspired composition, performance and narrative. The video for Only Love features rapper Pa Salieu and follows a young pure water seller navigating the rhythms of everyday life in Lagos. Themes of ancestry, culture and community are reflected in the vignettes that Blanche has carefully devised around the narrative, using symbolic details and dynamic movement, also drawing from photography, documentary observation and fine art composition, to create an uplifting vision that's both timeless and contemporary. It is the style that we have seen in his acclaimed work for Little Simz's Point And Kill and Jae5's Dimension with Skepta - both shot in West Africa. And it establishes the framework and tone for the ensuing album campaign that will include more music videos, an accompanying short film and photography, all under Blanche's creative direction. It is designed as a visual extension of the album, translating Ezra Collective's sound into a cinematic world, and reflect the driving force of the album Here Because Of Hope, celebrating optimism, cultural pride and the enduring human capacity to move forward. This opening chapter does exactly that.[imgtoken data:1] [imgtoken data:2][imgtoken data:3]

Partiboi69 becomes humanity's last hope for survival in PETR's highly entertaining video for the Australian electronic music producer and DJ and self-styled 'prophet of pleasure'. Taking the trademark high-octane, off the wall style of previous outings (like Double Drop) into new dystopian yet cinematic territory, the video for Redline is set in a near future where human reproduction has become a point of crisis. Partiboi69 is identified as the last fertile man on Earth - and that's the trigger for him to be subjected to a series of increasingly surreal indignities whilset incarcerated in a prison-like lab.To the pulsating beat of the banging techno of Redline, Partiboi69’s DNA is commodified; guards become increasingly obsessed; a wax figure in his likeness meets a crazed flamethrower; a group of anonymous children raise questions about their origin. He enters a datamoshing dreamscape, and meets a horse. But can he ever escape from his nightmarish ordeal?[imgtoken data:1]Filmed in Prague at a location with a layered history - a chateau once occupied by a senior Nazi figure during the Second World War which later became a communist metal factory - the real-world environment associated with cycles of control and industrial use forms the backdrop to this unhinged story (written by Partiboi69) centred on extraction and bodily autonomy. PETR's video - produced through Stink Films - is also a triumph of resourceful invention, with the world-building of the production realised through hands-on solutions. That included the wax head made by the director’s mother, or the extraction machine - strapped to Partiboi's genital area - handcrafted by local art directors out of recycled materials. “We did everything for real - the horse, the stunts, the torch," says PETR - whose credits include the UKMVA winning video for Son Lux's Flickers. "Partiboi69 and his daring energy pushed us all for the best and turned out to be the most fun I've had on set yet.”

Naomi Scott makes a big impression among the unsuspected shoppers of Ilford, Essex, in an impressive piece directed by the actress and singer herself with Jordan Spence. Naomi emerges from the Elizabeth Line station at Ilford, and proceeds to dance and perform her track Gracie as she walks in ankle-breaking high heels down the high street and shopping centre. It's cleverly assembled so it appears that its done entirely guerilla style - and certainly some of it was.Naomi's previous videos include the off-the-wall promo for Losing You. It's been a while coming, but the video for the title track of Dave's current album has arrived - and the Edem Wornoo-directed visual has been worth the wait. The video for The Boy Who Played The Harp had to do justice to the quality of the track - in particular, the words. Wornoo's video does exactly that, honouring the artist and his subject with direct references to his reflections. But also doing so with a very creative approach and a very successful visual device. The video takes us into different times and places, with Dave as the focus in each scene. These are recreations of the places that Dave mentions in the song: London in the Blitz, Robben Island, the prison of Nelson Mandela in 1960s, the Titanic. Plus modern London, represented by a grafitti-stained tube train, and also a dreamscape - where Dave ponders life next to a giant skull.[imgtoken data:1]Within these scenarios Dave is present, in character, but always the same. Wornoo match cuts between each of these scenes, so whatever the time period, we remain mesmerically fixed on Dave. He becomes like a time-traveller, and also a philosopher. Its very effective in presenting Dave's thoughts and ideas, with visual flair. And even by the gifted London rapper's standards, the lyrics of TBWPTH are outstanding: a reflection on the meaning of his life, no less, within the greater scope of history. He asks some serious questions of himself, and us. "It’d be an understatement to say that The Boy Who Played The Harp is a powerful song," says Wornoo. "I think Dave put it best when he said that it’s one of the most important tracks he’s ever made and maybe ever will. It’s obviously a huge honour that [he] entrusted me with the task of creating the visuals. It was very important to me that this video’s primary function was to be in service to the song.[imgtoken data:2]"I very quickly settled on a collection of cinematic vignettes that place Dave at the centre of pivotal moments in human history as he questions what he might’ve done if he was actually there. It was also important to me that we captured the majority of this video in-camera."And the video is the result of some oldschool film production craft, with fantastic production design by David Hamilton - and complicated motion control set-ups. "David Hamilton and his team absolutely smashed it out of the park with a collection of beautifully intricate set builds that made me feel like I was hurtling through time and space as I walked across the studio each day. We built upon these sets with a few moments of considered CGI the majority of which were crafted by our Lead VFX Artist Harry Davidson."We transported Dave from scene to scene using match cuts. These were made possible through one very long, very complicated motion control move that allowed us to replicate the exact same movement across multiple sets. Other than the fact that match cuts are super satisfying to see (but definitely not satisfying to shoot lol), they also help with getting the idea across that we could just as easily have been dealt a different hand in life if we were born in another generation. At the snap of a finger, we could find ourselves on the sinking Titanic or as a prisoner of war.[imgtoken data:3]"Our editor Amy Dang was on set with us, piecing each scene together as we went. She was absolutely the woman for the job given how patient and tech savvy she is. She created all of these wonderful grids that helped align all of our shots, and, when a transition worked in the edit, it was the most joyous feeling ever. We’d be shooting things and honestly just crossing our fingers and toes in the hopes that they’d slot together and thankfully they absolutely did with the help of a little movie magic here and there."This was the first time that I was able to work with Jaime Ackroyd whose phenomenal portfolio speaks for itself. We’d been trying to connect on a few projects but this is the first time that the stars aligned and I was probably most surprised with how nice of a guy he was. With a body of work as brilliant as his, he’d be excused if he was a little bit of a dick but he wasn’t dickish at all, he was actually a very chill breh. Anyway, I digress… The way in which he chose to light the video helped us establish a painterly quality to each scene that really helped in making the entire film feel timeless despite what time period we were depicting.Shout outs to our colourist Tim Smith for accentuating these lighting choices and also introducing some gritty texture to the video that helped in tying everything together. This is definitely turning into a bit of an extended credit reel but who cares, it takes a village as they say![imgtoken data:4]"The cherry on top of all the bells and whistles were our hair, make up and costumes that our Costume Designer Cara Hayward and Make Up Designer Ayopo Abiri pulled together. From beaten down uniforms to bruised and bloodied prosthetics, these little details go a long way towards making the video feel authentic, alive and engaging."In that vein, I also want to say a huge thank you to every single cast and crew member that I haven’t yet mentioned. What you all brought to this video, big or small, is invaluable and I’m forever grateful to you for it. My final thanks would be to Friend London and my production team Andre Wooz, Liz Adeleye and Scarlet Green as well as my execs Mel Giles, Luke Jacobs and Saam Farahmand all of whom poured into this project in so many different ways."I am more proud of this project than I could ever put into words. Given the state of the world right now, this is more than just entertainment, it’s a call to action. I would hope that everyone who has the chance to watch this can take a moment to look themselves in the mirror and ask what they’re doing about the situations in front of them. The answer to that question is what will define our legacy on this planet."

Fa & Fon have directed six new visualisers as part of the visual album release of JADE's debut solo album That's Showbiz Baby!, each one translating the singer's sound into playful, cinematic worlds, delivered in the directing duo's signature style. The new arrivals fit perfectly into the manically satirical sensibility established by previous acclaimed videos for the album, including the twin sisters' previous collaborations with ex-Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall, for Midnight Cowboy and IT Girl - all featured on the visual album. Furthermore, while each visualiser feels like its own little universe, they also weave together into a bigger picture. In Headache, JADE attempts to impress a judging panel of tough-to-please nightlife princesses with her burlesque-friendly act - involving a (genuinely impressive) JADE-branded giant cup of tea... [vidtoken data:0]In Glitch, JADE hangs with her clone-like gang, engaging in strange rituals that get increasingly out of hand, delivered in an intense cut by editor Pawel Achtelik.[vidtoken data:1]For the wistful Silent Disco, we're taken to the dancefloor with a twist, as JADE and boyfriend Jordan are replaced by 'lookalikes' whose age profile is more appropriate to the working men's club setting. [vidtoken data:2]In the quasi-romantic viz for Lip Service, JADE is the girl on a Noughties-style late night adult TV channel, with a charmed (and charming) caller who has the hots for her...[vidtoken data:3]In the more reflective but still satirical Unconditional, Fa & Fon revisit the scenarios for the previous visualisers through apparent BTS and CCTV footage, revealing JADE's sadness and the emptiness behind the pop artifice.[vidtoken data:4]In Self Sabateur, its all about JADE's online personality through live videos on social media - with her various incarnations providing entertaining fakeness while revealing some underlying truth. And its funny - including the generally unflattering chat feed.[vidtoken data:5]JADE is very good in this one - as she is in all of them - and it arguably acts as a microcosm of the whole album campaign. It also exemplifies what a fine job that Fa & Fon have done too in this ambitious and very impressive project.

Enigmatic alt-electronic outfit holybones self-direct the atmospheric promo for Saltywater, following the band to the countryside to undertake a cathartic ritual.Packed with fast-cut, abstract shots and a fresh twist on traditional folklore, the cinematic visual represents the band's struggle to reach their current state of creative freedom, through the symbolic act of burning an effigy. But to add to the enigma, following the ceremonial act, their faces are bound in bandages."We wanted the video to show how letting go of the past can be violent and difficult, but it can lead to a confusing and complicated freedom," the band have stated. "We have roots where we shot it and it felt right to tell a bit of an urban myth for this one.“We met hiking in 2020. We come from all over the shop - music, theatre, poetry. When we met at the start of this project, we all felt anonymous - living in London in your 20s can do this. In that hinterland, we banded together to make a project that reflects that feeling; everybody being lost together."We found each other and we found a home - holybones. Confidence Man returns with another bold swing at pop absurdity in their latest video by India Rose Harris - featuring fellow pop star Jade. Already buzzing across TikTok and fresh from its live debut at Glastonbury, the track now arrives with a hyper-stylised absurdist narrative. The cinematic, colour-drenched video for Gossip is laced with tongue-in-cheek irony. Taking place in a surreal dive bar where Confidence Man and Jade encounter cloned versions of themselves, they each indulge in wild, debaucherous behaviour, as a visual analogy for the track’s theme: gossip. Between moments of playful choreography and striking styling, a game of Russian Roulette triggers a chain reaction of chaos, with the fired bullet ricocheting through the bar and picking the cast off one by one. The camera captures the chaos, moving between static frames, dramatic crash zooms, and rhythmic dolly shots - always pulsing in time with the beat.Part-Western, part-Mafia flick, the video immerses viewers in its own off-kilter world, ideated by director India Rose Harris. A surreal visual feast packed with irony and attitude that showcases her unique and playful approach to visual storytelling.INDIA ROSE HARRIS:“I loved the 00’s weirdo club vibe of the track so straight up I knew the video had to be some kind of bonkers narrative. The concept sparked from the idea that a disjointed bar full of cloned versions of the same person, somehow became synchronised in a moment before descending into chaos. "I wanted it to be this blend of Western, meets Mafia, meets East London pub/dive bar with classic Con Man irony interwoven. Bring Jade’s perfect character building into the madness of Confidence Man’s world and voila!”[imgtoken data:1][imgtoken data:2]

To achieve this, we collaborated with a crew of real skaters, allowing them to operate much of the Mini DV footage themselves."This approach ensures that the film captures the genuine spirit and energy of skateboarding, resulting in a dynamic and “alive” video that resonates with authenticity."

Stephen Agnew teams up with South London alt-rock agitators Fat Dog to create a remarkable, trippy six minute epic about the mind-boggling antics of a bunch of cow skull-worshipping misfits, for the band's third single Running. The hugely ambitious video chronicles the rise and rise of this offbeat group, utilizing a range of cinematic styles and influences as they progress from beach-dwelling hippies (who discover the aforementioned cow skull) to tracksuit-wearing cultists - and way, way beyond.Agnew taps into his wide repertoire of influences - Heavens Gate, the films of Dario Argento and David Icke's wardrobe, to name a few - and love of horror and folk stories for a visual experience which is both intense and unhinged, and perfectly complementary to Fat Dog's brilliant track.[imgtoken data:1] From the beautifully realised opening section in stark monochrome and boxy framing, Agnew introduces colour and widescreen cinematography as the cow skull worshippers settle into a comfortable suburban existence - and start to develop special powers. Through the off-the wall narrative and wonderfully feverish edit by Thomas Goldser, Agnew keeps raises questions, and just keeps you guessing what will happen next. It just keeps hurtling forward, culminating in a data-moshed sequence with the impact of an intrusive CT scan, followed by a mysterious spoken-word coda. Fat Dog look like being one of the most exciting new bands this year and Agnew's video - conjuring both the energetic, fizzing ferocity of an early 2000s indie gem, with the claws and snarl of a late stage capitalism nightmare - will help put them on the map, fair and square. A must-watch.

Douglas Hart and Steve Mackey - the former Pulp bassist-turned director - direct a grungy promo for Hot Chip's return with Down. The video is a lo-fi affair, blending gritty textures, abstract imagery and distorted layers of oversaturated footage. Paying homage to early music video experimentation, the compelling performances are contrasted against unusual, seemingly unrelated vignettes, which seem more inspired by the industrial beat than any lyrical content. It's all brought together in a terrific, kinetically-driven edit by Thomas Goldser.[imgtoken data:1][imgtoken data:2]

For their latest video for Hak Baker, Broken Antenna try something different: a mini-drama of a London wedding in the early 2000s, that brings white and black families together, shot entirely on Hi8.Hak and his band provide the entertainment as the wedding party in a local church hall gets into full swing - performing his latest ode, Venezuela Riddim. There's drinking, dancing and other stuff. Tempers fray, connections are made... and fans of Hak Baker's previous videos will not be surprised to learn that the charismatic troubadour is soon in the thick of it. This is a subtle change-up into drama for Broken Antenna - that's Myles McAuliffe and Gustav Newby - which they handle with aplomb. Everything feels right about it - the sizeable cast is pitch perfect, the use of the home video camera helps to deliver that sense of authenticity. And although the wedding is not genuine, the party probably is.An excellent addition to the Hak Baker canon by Broken Antenna, which includes the UKMVA-nominated Like It Or Lump It and Wonderland.
