Director duo rubberband. - Jason Sondock and Simon Davis - return to music videos with a characteristically ingenious video for Montreal-based rapper Skiifall, creating something new yet feeling timeless, appropriately upon the theme of Time itself.In the video for 2 Charming, rubberband. somehow, miraculously, manage to bend time. We watch&nbsp;Skiifall move through a city environment, walking alongside a towering overpass. At the start it is nighttime. But as&nbsp;Skiifall makes his unhurried progress, the sky gets noticably&nbsp;lighter. Then dawn breaks, it gets brighter as the blazing sun rises in the sky.In the camera move tracking&nbsp;Skiifall's walk to his destination - to his girl, waiting by her car -&nbsp;a whole day passes, as shadows disappear at noon and then start to lengthen again, and then the sky darkens. Soon it is night once more, while the camera continues to pan across...&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1][imgtoken data:2]With a flawless execution aligned to such a striking concept, the video has a real 'how did they do that?' quality. It's a great achievement.&nbsp;“We wanted to take 2 Charming as a track and&nbsp;Skiifall&nbsp;as an artist and play with time passage practically," say rubberband. "That was more or less the base of the idea. Skii was very open to experimenting and the inspiration was in and of itself experimentation."It’s always fun to try something new, or in this case, to continue to push a technical theme further. In general we like to try real practical concepts, often bolstered by VFX. In this case The Mill LA was our partner, hand-in-hand every step of the way. The Stepford Wives&nbsp;meets Alice in Wonderland as Charlie&nbsp;Sarsfield&nbsp;transports us to a surreal world where&nbsp;Rita Ora endures a fictional wedding from hell.The&nbsp;vibrant visual for You Only Love Me features scenes of a bride’s day turned tumultuously upside-down, in which Sarsfield was inspired by Tim Burton and Wes Anderson for the LA-shot video - and features a cameo by none other than Sharon Stone.Charlie Sarsfield says:&nbsp;"The concept for ‘You Only Love Me’ is centered around a nightmare wedding but we wanted it to feel somewhere in between a dream and a nightmare, where everything is continually going wrong but building up incrementally throughout the visual.[imgtoken data:1]"We cast a group of ‘bad-maids’ around Rita, focussed on making the day amazing for themselves, rather than Rita. Colour plays a really important role in this. The ‘bad-maids’ are dressed in bright, clashing colours, whereas Rita is in a neutral palette throughout, highlighting the idea that she is out of place in a surreal world."I drew inspiration from directors such as Tim Burton and Wes Anderson in terms of colour, shooting style, production design and accessories. Pairing slow camera zooms and vibrant colours with bold outfits and wigs, reminiscent of movies such as ‘Edward Scissorhands’. "Rita was truly amazing, she is an artist that knows her strengths and she gave a great performance. The video is a bold release, stepping away from the traditional pop video and making something that we both wanted to make. We had a lot of fun in the process too!”

Directing duo&nbsp;rubberband. have ingeniously crafted the breathtaking promo for Lucky Daye's N.W.A. - the OUTSIDE version -&nbsp;blending physical and digital mediums to create something truly distinctive.&nbsp;This is the alternate version of <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOuos3tU3AE" target="_blank">the official video directed by rubberband for the track</a> earlier this year, where the duo have created a real magazine with stills from the original video.&nbsp;Comprised of just under one hundred individually designed pages, the creative team programmed a robot to flip through individual pages,&nbsp;taking the viewer on a journey through a living, breathing work of art. &nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]Each magazine spread is&nbsp;meticulously crafted, boasting eclectic aesthetics and styling, with an overarching feeling of nostalgia, harking back to the magazine culture of the duo's youth.The seamless combination of physical and digital elements - tied together with brilliant VFX work - results in a visual that is not only extremely captivating, but also truly innovative.&nbsp;By combining different creative mediums such as fashion, editorial, music, and film, rubberband.&nbsp;have proven once again that their creativity and out-of-the-box thinking is an intrinsic part of their filmmaking DNA.

By having everyone in the video static throughout until the release for the last chorus, I wanted to represent that moment of holding your breath before taking the plunge. You could watch this video several times and notice something different which adds an extra layer of fun.”

Directing duo rubberband. follow up the brooding terror of their video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2022/06/27/steve-lacy-mercury-rubberband/77040" target="_blank">Mercury</a>&nbsp;with something more upbeat and suitably sun-drenched for their second Steve Lacy video - again with a surreal twist.Lacy performs in an empty industrial space alongside his band, as guest vocalist Fousheé is suspended against a bright blue sky. Once Lacy joins his companion against the bright backdrop, the film takes on a hazy dream-like mode&nbsp; - it is this move toward surrealism that ties in with Lacy’s established visual language.As with Mercury,&nbsp;rubberband.&nbsp;worked with award-winning cinematographer Evan Prosofsky, and shot the video on 35mm.&nbsp;“We wanted to do something dead simple and completely free," say the directors. "We said, put them on the tallest crane we can find, and don’t remove anything. Show everything. The artifice in full. That was literally our pitch. The whole pathos of the album for us visually was the idea that: Safety is an Illusion, both in life and in love. We feel like this was a dead simple, evocative way to show that.”

Directing duo rubberband. have created a mesmerising film for the return of Steve Lacy, using minimalism to draw the viewer into their distinctive take on the horror genre.As the camera does a 360-degree pan within a fenced-off area in a factory setting, Lacey comes in and out of shot to perform the Latin-flavoured Mercury. This motion control-driven device to frame the performance is the core of the video, but then rubberband. begin to disrupt our expectations.Halfway through the piece, an animal briefly appears walking outside the fence. The tone has now unexpectedly shifted, and the viewer is suddenly aware&nbsp;of a likely interaction between this creature and&nbsp;Lacy.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]Tension begins to crank up - confirmed by a flash of fur in front of the camera shortly afterwards. From then on Lacy is as much off screen as on-screen, and when he appears, his clothes are increasingly shredded.Shot by award winning cinematographer Evan Profosky on 35mm film, the video takes far less than&nbsp;its brief two minute and 30 second runtime to create a sense of sinister foreboding and creeping horror. The concept works to apply the classic horror formula, that what you (mostly) cannot see is more terrifying. It also captures the increasingly hard-edged&nbsp;energy of Mercury, the first of highly anticipated new material from Lacy.

Charlie Sarsfield and FILFURY join forces to deliver this&nbsp;outstanding promo for Mabel and 24kGoldn.&nbsp;Shot across London and LA, the video for Overthinking captures Mabel at a houseparty&nbsp;struggling to connect with the atmosphere, her mind elsewhere and focused on internal struggles. Meanwhile, 24k is shown on the streets of LA at sundown in a vintage BMW, shot against the iconic skyline.&nbsp;"Overthinking is an ambitious project, one that I was super excited about," says Charlie Sarsfield. "When pitching on the video I really wanted to push Mabel out of her comfort zone, leaning into the meaning of the song which is about wild nights out, but the anxiety and vulnerability which can come with that. This meant that Mabel had to act and perform in a way we haven’t really seen her do.<blockquote>I really wanted to push Mabel out of her comfort zone.</blockquote>"We knew we wanted this performance to exist in a colourful world, surreal at points, taking inspiration from Euphoria and Skins - but also Mabel’s own personal experiences. Although the track expresses the more vulnerable side of Mabel, she really came out of her shell and killed the performance and made the whole shoot extremely enjoyable.[imgtoken data:1]"As soon as Mabel and I started talking, we clicked. The whole UNTOLD team over in LA smashed it and it was great for me knowing we were in safe hands out there."And special shout out to my DoP here in England Courtney Bennett, who really brought this world to life. He did a great job of leaning into the beauty elements but also made it gritty at the same time, which is something Mabel and I spoke a lot about throughout pre-production."

Josh Sondock has directed an ingenious video for US singer-songwriter Nick Leng that dissembles the process of making a video - indeed the whole idea of image-creation&nbsp;- in one bravura continuous take.It's a bit more complicated than that. Sondock's video for Leng's Morning/Midnight is a film with a Russian Doll structure - or perhaps reverse Russian Doll. Several performances of the track by Leng come together, layered on&nbsp;top of each other. We move outward from a performance that is revealed to be on a monitor, which is then part of a scene which includes Leng performing... and that is revealed to be a take, on a screen. We move out, and also back in, thorugh the increasing number of layers...Sondock has described this as "a one-take music video in which a musician makes a one-take music video in which a musician makes a one-take music video in which a musician makes a one-take music video..." And so on.&nbsp;That is exactly what it is - but, conversely, that does not quite&nbsp;do it justice.[imgtoken data:1]This has the rare quality of being a brilliant concept, which is quickly evident. But there is a uncharted end point, somewhere ahead,&nbsp;which keeps you hooked.&nbsp;Furthermore this idea has tremendous resonance - especially but not exclusively for filmmakers - meditating on the almost ludicrous ubiquity of screens in daily life.Perhaps most crucially of all, this is all about a great (and quite complicated) idea, executed well, and with great clarity. An exercise in smart creativity that makes it one of the most satisfying watches of the year so far.

BRTHR direct&nbsp;a&nbsp;ferociously glamorous video for&nbsp;Chemtrails Over the Country Club, the title track of Lana Del Rey's&nbsp;new album.&nbsp;The director duo - Alex Lee and Kyle Wightman - are well known for their hyperstylised aesthetic, full of vibrant colours, vintage effects and experimental camera movement. There's plenty of that here, but it never overwhelms the poignancy&nbsp;of the melancholic narrative.&nbsp;The concept features a group of women - Del Rey included - whose lives we view with the contrast of night and day; refined&nbsp;poolside elegance vs their primal, unleashed selves.The frenetic&nbsp;visuals aren't the most immediately obvious pairing to the artist's haunting soundscapes, but the risk has paid off - the resulting project is endlessly watchable and all-consuming in the best way.&nbsp;
