Taylor Swift self-directs the absorbing promo for Lavender Haze.&nbsp;The dreamteam is back, with DoP Rina Yang lensing the enchanting concept, which sees Swift pulls away layers of the universe to reveal lavender-hued environments.&nbsp;The cinematic visual&nbsp;is, firstly, stunning to look at. From the atmospheric cinematography through to the otherworldly visual effects, the video has an undercurrent of danger and discovery, enveloped in a suitably&nbsp;colourful world.&nbsp;Away from the glossy shine and excess of many of Swift's videos, Lavender Haze takes a more intimate, raw view of the dreamworld she inhabits, with plenty of contrast, texture and ethereal flair.&nbsp;Beautiful work and another stunning collaboration between Swift and the creative team she is building for her directing projects.&nbsp;

The Weeknd sings karaoke with Squid Game star&nbsp;HoYeon Jung, in Cliqua's transcendent promo for Out Of Time.&nbsp;When watching the video, viewers may be a little disconcerted at just how&nbsp;normal things seem to be for the most part. The artist gets ready, meets Jung at a bar and they sing karaoke together in a happy, playful set of vignettes. This is a develioping love story - with a distinct nod to Lost In Translation.&nbsp;Of course, things are not quite how they initially appear. The environment breaks down into a surreal, haunting otherworld. A supply of medical equipment is&nbsp;hidden behind the walls of the building, and what appears to be The Weeknd's hand - in its aged form, from previous video <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2022/01/24/weeknd-gasoline-matilda-finn/74575">Gasoline</a> - reaches through the void...&nbsp;It all ends with a cameo from Jim Carrey looking through a distorted medical instrument, reprising his role on the Weeknd's new album Dawn FM, as a DJ on the eponymous radio station.To be continued, no doubt...&nbsp;

Haim and Paul Thomas Anderson’s longstanding partnership is the gift that keeps on giving. Their latest collaboration is a dizzy Los Angeles caper, starring Danielle Haim in the chaotic sway of a nervous breakdown.Haim’s middle child shines in this short psychodrama, set amongst the bustling bars and outlets of LA’s fashionable Silver Lake. Doing an eerily convincing Isabelle Adjani impression, Danielle scurries along Sunset Boulevard with an uncertain destination, trying on different personas and discarding them like cheap pair of shades. With shades of cult classics Celine and Julie Go Boating and Mulholland Drive, the video is a four minute panic attack, capturing the frenzied breathlessness of an identity in free fall.If you’re not familiar with Paul Thomas Anderson’s sensitive work with Fiona Apple and Joana Newsom, the director’s relationship with Haim seems unlikely - at least on paper. Anderson’s filmography is an ongoing study in megalomania. The director has made it his life’s mission to tell the stories of flawed, controlling men. Meanwhile, Haim have built their career on playfully subverting their ‘cool’ influences, daring to inject a sisterly enthusiasm into a space skeptically guarded by ‘rockists’. This is a band equally comfortable with comparisons to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VikyxJoBF2k">Peter Green</a> and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNkzhHG0Prs">Shania Twain</a>.The sisters have never shied away from ‘girl group’ imagery either. Comedy and choreography, for instance, are essential parts of their presentation. Catch the band strutting down Ventura Boulevard in <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2017/06/23/haim-want-you-back-jake-schreier/48381">Want You Back</a>, shimmying in front of a halogen ‘HAIM’ sign in <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2014/02/28/haim-if-i-could-change-your-mind-warren-fu/24499">If I Could Change Your Mind</a>, or even&nbsp;line-dancing in <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2017/10/11/haim-little-your-love-paul-thomas-anderson/49977">Little Of Your Love</a>. An honourable mention should also go to their Instagram, a treasure trove of dance routines in unexpected places. <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/B3Cp5uOlKDt/">Their Quincy Jones routine</a>, in particular, qualifies for its own Promonews entry.&nbsp;Recently, the band have been experimenting with a new directness. And this video marks something of a departure. More often than not, Haim’s music videos have been at odds to present the sisters as a tight, unbreakable unit. But in light of <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/B4LFxV9F_FE/">some difficult circumstances</a> in Danielle’s life, the singer has stepped into the foreground of their music and visuals. This Danielle-aissance began in July, with Anderson’s sublime video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/08/08/haim-summer-girl-paul-thomas-anderson/60188">Summer Girl</a>. In this languid LA fantasia, the singer wandered through the city removing her Winter clothing, leisurely pursued by a stranger with a saxophone. The video also starred Este and Alana Haim in a Greek chorus role, but the video was unique in that it prioritised Daniele’s personal experience — the singer’s <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/B0jZTFDlvB3/">response to her partner’s cancer diagnosis</a> back in 2017.&nbsp;Now I’m In It picks up where Summer Girl left off. By foregrounding the experiences of just one bandmember, at least temporarily, Haim have created some of their most stirring and resonant work in years. Without sacrificing the unity that make the band such an attractive prospect in the first place. In particular, the car wash sequence, as well as Este’s appearance in the middle section, is a startling watch and arguably a career highlight for both the artist and director.Incidentally, this video is also peak Paul Thomas Anderson. It brims with the director’s trademark fascinations: colliding lives, corridors, meandering tracking shots, a shuffling, dead-eyed protagonist, and a familial redemption. And crucially, it looks gorgeous, shot on 35mm in the glorious natural light of California.

Billie Eilish is a choking fallen angel in this oily creature feature, directed by Rich Lee. This part-sequel to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUHC9tYz8ik">Bury a Friend</a> feels like the spiritual culmination of the various themes and motifs that circulate in Eilish’s artistry: the use of the abject, the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyDfgMOUjCI">gallows humour</a>, the <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2018/10/30/billie-eilish-when-partys-over-carlos-lopez-estrada/55713">black viscera</a>, and the burdensome injustices handed to the youth.It is testament to Eilish - the salience of her mythology and her unshakeable fanbase - that this single and video are even allowed to exist. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79fzeNUqQbQ">Gyrating in front of a crucifix</a> may have done Madonna more good than bad in 1988. But conventional wisdom tends to decree that, if you have the profile, and you’re itching to piss off American Christians, do it gently. And with enough cynicism to give yourself some plausible deniability. But thanks to this eagerly macabre video, and a couple of choice lyrics (“even God herself … will want the Devil on her team”), the young star has developed a <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/music/shortcuts/2019/sep/09/is-billie-eilish-a-devil-worshipper-hell-no">reputation as a Satan worshipper</a>.But Eilish’s stunt mangling of Christian symbolism belies a more urgent message. Timed to coincide with the 2019 Climate Action Summit, the video is an environmental call to arms. This hellish vision of the future alludes to both oil spills and the 2018 California Wildfires.This is Rich Lee’s second monster movie released this month. Eilish’s shuffling angel is a cousin of Lana Del Rey’s vengeful giantess in <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/09/11/lana-del-rey-doin-time-rich-lee/60720">Doin’ Time</a>. The two videos share a similar crew, including Christopher Probst, ASC and Production Designer Brandon Mendez. The pyro, wings and oil were all achieved using partially practical effects.

The celebrated choreographer Ryan Heffington turns director and actor - and choreographer and dancer too &ndash; in this short film for Fleet Foxes.Heffington puts himself in a position of turmoil&nbsp;within a scenario of liberal middle-class privilege. He is already love-lorn - rejected by the man he loves - when he gets another hammer blow at his own cool and chic dinner party. Realism fades, and then comes the catharsis.&ldquo;It was the pure honesty of the music and Robin Pecknold&rsquo;s voice that originally drew me to direct/choreograph If You Need To, Keep Time on Me,&quot; Heffington has said in a statement.&nbsp;&quot;Heartbreak being one of the most honest and visceral symptoms of love, I wanted to paint a realistic picture of humanity and share a story that so many of us have encountered.&quot;Using dance as an offering has defined my adult life and I believe in its healing power &ndash; for both the dancer and the witness. I wanted to capture this in the film, whether it is seen as surreal or organic.&rdquo;

But the most important thing in Paul Thomas Anderson&#39;s unpretentiously fun music video, here is the evident pleasure being had.&nbsp;It develops into a natural thing where something real happens during the making of the video.&nbsp;

Paul Thomas Anderson&#39;s third video for Radiohead&#39;s album A Moon-Shaped Pool follows the template of the second for <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hgVihWjK2c" target="_blank">Present Tense</a>. It&#39;s Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, a CR78 (apparently, whatever that is), outside in the country,&nbsp;and it&#39;s live.Like Present Tense, it&#39;s&nbsp;a bit of an anti-video, and not the enigmatic masterpiece that is Anderson&#39;s pondered-over video for&nbsp;Daydreaming. But, there&#39;s still something special about this. First and foremost, there&#39;s the evidence, if any were needed, that Greenwood is a bit of a&nbsp;guitar player.&nbsp;The set-up brings to mind&nbsp;Garth Jennings and Adam Buxton&#39;s&nbsp;string of videos for Radiohead&#39;s In Rainbows album, created over an&nbsp;intense long weekend of online broadcasts, which included&nbsp;Yorke and Greenwood driving through Oxfordshire&nbsp;countryside at speed to perform an impromptu version of Faust Arp on a rainspecked hillside in the last moments of daylight. A mere three days after their last offering - the hypnotic Trumpton and Wicker Man-referencing&nbsp;<a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2016/05/04/radiohead-burn-witch-chris-hopewell" target="_blank">Burn The Witch&nbsp;video</a> &ndash; Radiohead&nbsp;continue the push around their new album A Moon Shaped Pool&nbsp;by giving us this gorgeous, sleepy video for Daydreaming.Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (director remarkable movies such as Magnolia,&nbsp;There Will Be Blood,The Master and Inherent Vice)&nbsp;it follows Thom Yorke as he meanders through doorways into a disconnected series of locations searching for something. Anything, really.&nbsp;It&#39;s a simple and beautiful meditation that fits well into the PT Anderson music video ouevre of &#39;not much happens, really... but maybe actually everything happens and the experience is totally subjective and therefore yours to glean. It&#39;s bloody nice to look at though.&#39;&nbsp;Which is essentially the feeling you get from watching this, or the video he made last year for&nbsp;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky9Ro9pP2gc" target="_blank">Joanna Newsom&#39;s&nbsp;Sapokanikan</a>.However you feel about it, the seamless cuts between such contrasting locations is still a stunning thing to observe.

Florence has come out the other side of the wreckage. For the&nbsp;final chapter of The Odyssey, the film project created to&nbsp;accompany her album How Big How Blue How Beautiful&nbsp;- and also <a href="http://florenceandthemachine.net/" target="_blank">now available to view in full</a>&nbsp;- Florence and Vincent Haycock have&nbsp;come up with a forward-looking&nbsp;finale.The chapter to accompany Third Eye&nbsp;begins&nbsp;on an image of Florence being carried away from fiery rubble, and this revisits many of the themes from the previous chapters one last&nbsp;time. But Florence is now untethered to the demons that had followed her up till now.&nbsp;The video is just a great closing statement -&nbsp;life-affirming and filled with cheer. It&nbsp;takes place at&nbsp;nighttime&nbsp;on the street&nbsp;in front of a dazzling&nbsp;concert hall,&nbsp;where we follow Florence down&nbsp;into the depths of the&nbsp;basement.&nbsp;There,&nbsp;she&nbsp;gets swarmed by dancers&nbsp;once again, in a scene that&nbsp;is highly reminiscent of What Kind Of Man and Delilah.&nbsp;But quickly the tone quickly turns lively and reverent, and then poignant when&nbsp;Florence is led by a musician&nbsp;back onto the&nbsp;stage.

Massive Attack return with their first new music for over five years, and a video for the excellent Tricky-featured Take It There by Hiro Murai&nbsp;which is pretty much everything&nbsp;you could hope for.The situation is familiar Murai territory - LA suburbia&nbsp;at night, shot naturally&nbsp;by DoP Larkin Sieple &ndash; into which comes the presence of a barely recognisable John Hawkes - shambling, decrepit, in a really bad way... and with his own personal band of demons.And what appears like a dramatic set-up becomes something very music video - a bit&nbsp;like Thriller, even, through the joint, bleaker perspective of Massive Attack, Hiro Murai and choreographer Ryan Heffington.&nbsp;A match made in&nbsp;heaven.
