Set within the four walls of a locker room, Ruby Harris’s latest promo for singer-songwriter-producer Tsatsamis curves seductively around the classic 'locker room'&nbsp;clichés, and practically radiates post-workout endorphins.This undeniably confident and punchy second collaboration between Harris and Tsatsamis for disco banger Faith - which follows their first, for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2023/10/16/tsatsamis-everybody-wants-piece-you-ruby-harris/83713" target="_blank">Everybody Wants A Piece Of You</a> last year -&nbsp;is a sending up of the joy in movement, physicality and eroticism.&nbsp;Between the lockers and the jockstraps, Tsatsamis grooves playfully, surrounded by sporty dancers. And with an impeccably dressed set as its sole location, Harris manages to make this finite, daylit space feel as intimate as a dark club dancefloor.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]A burst of impeccably synchronised choreography amidst flashes of bodies stretching, dancing and moving brings a moment of satisfying focus to the video as the cast engage in a communal worshipping with their movements.“Faith came from an image Pete (Tsatsamis) described of sweaty people in a changing room with post-match energy, and a light shining down on him in the centre,” says Ruby Harris.&nbsp;&nbsp;“We cast a mixture of dancers, movers and friends, and I was so lucky to be able to collaborate with choreographer Caterina Danzico to find movements that everyone felt comfortable doing. It has always been a dream to shoot group choreography and it exceeded expectations.”[imgtoken data:2]&nbsp;&nbsp;The director's embodied visual style includes some casually suggestive shots that leave little room for misinterpretation for those in the know. The photography by DoP Warren Rodricks, the lighting, and the grade by Andi Chu at Electric Theatre Collective, together take on a celestial quality, seeming to bathe the cast in light as much as Tsatsamis seems to be emitting it throughout the video.“My aim was to give the video this energy," adds Harris.&nbsp;"To show that God is shining on them and they are shining back at God.”&nbsp; &nbsp;

Ruby Harris has directed a meditation on an encapsulated romance for London-based artist, producer and songwriter Tsatsamis - the first video by the New Zealander since she moved to London earlier this year.This video for Everybody Wants A Piece Of You, feels close and intimate; which is a real feat of dynamics given its powerful backdrop of rolling rocks, towering green hills and foreboding bodies of deep, dark water.'How can I compete with honesty, when I’m the secret that you keep?'&nbsp;asks Tsatsamis, as they plunge alone into icy water, their lover watching from the sidelines. The scene acts as a visual representation of the chill of solitude amongst the maelstrom of emotions within a relationship kept secret. This spectrum of feeling is brought to vivid and unignorable life by Ruby’s creative vision, which is full of near-tangible terrestrial textures and emotional resonance, beautifully shot by DOP Benjamin Leggett.[imgtoken data:1]Most notable is the chemistry between Tsatsamis and their on-screen lover, which ranges from fizzing sexual tension to utter rejection, the full trajectory of a skewed relationship evoked in just three minutes. Combined with an expert grade by Andi Chu, Everybody Wants A Piece Of You&nbsp;is as sensitive and moody as it is cool and refreshing.This is Ruby Harris's first video since the acclaimed and equally visceral promo for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2022/11/29/vanessa-worm-lost-memories-ruby-harris/79468" target="_blank">Vanessa Worm's Lost Memories</a>, made in New Zealand before she moved to London. We chatted with Ruby to find out a bit more about her process with making the promo, and get to know her a bit better!Ruby, the new promo feels very intimate. Can you tell us a little bit about how to came to work with Tsatsamis?Tsatsamis asked me to help make their first music video ever! What an honour! We have known each other for five years now - we met in Berlin at the lake one summer through their partner.They wanted to make a video which reflects the emotion behind the song; which is when you love or feel romantically towards someone but that isn’t reciprocated because they aren’t comfortable enough with their sexuality. It is about the spaces between, trying to navigate the question of friendship or romance. We came up with some scenes to play into that emotion while keeping a constant of Tsatsamis performing this beautiful song.You've just moved to London from NZ. What differences have you found working here compared to back home?This project was a special one to start with here. It reminds me of home; low budget but legends working on it! Everyone has been so lovely and generous with their skills considering they don’t know me. But I think I have had to put more thought into communicating my ideas, because I haven’t built up that shared language between the people I’m collaborating with yet.[imgtoken data:2]How would you describe your approach to directing?It changes for each project, but every time it is all or nothing. I love to enjoy it. I feel responsible to try and create an environment where people can do their best work, which I consider the most important thing, because it is not just me out here, it's a whole team. Every step of the way is so exciting and when it’s done it’s done. If you know you got it in the bag, you got it in the bag.What are some of your favourite music videos?I don’t want to share my all time faves, it's too personal! BUT some lit ones which have come out; ‘Point and Kill’ by Little Simz. The one by Amara Abbas for Skrillex is unreal. Radiohead ‘No Surprises’ … I love water. And one-takes.What's next for you?I'm finishing a documentary I shot about my niece who is 13. We went on a road trip last summer, and it’s about her fears and dreams of the world. Denisha Anderson teams up with Purple Disco Machine, Duke Dumont and Nothing But Thieves for cinematic collab Something On My Mind, to create a Pulp Fiction-like narrative within an intriguing time loop structure.&nbsp;For the video, Anderson was inspired by Maya Deren's Meshes Of The Afternoon,&nbsp;and wanted to create a fantasy romance, using a time loop pattern of confusion and lust.&nbsp;With each loop, the storyline unfolds as the&nbsp;lead protagonists go on a&nbsp;whirlwind trip joyriding in a Porsche&nbsp;and robbing diners.[imgtoken data:1]It's a big and very successful leap into bigger concepts for Denisha Anderson, who navigates a hybrid narrative / performance promo with flair, cleverly interweaving the storyline with enigmatic shots of the artists - Tino Piontek aka Purple Disco Machine, and Noting But Thieves&nbsp;tied up in a basement.&nbsp;"It couldn’t have&nbsp;gone any better, despite it being the first time I had no contact with the artists prior to filming," explains Anderson."Day 1 was a remote shoot with our team filming Purple Disco Machine in Berlin. He was an absolute gent to work with whilst being tied up and placed in the back of a boot with myself and my DOP directing him via a laptop from London.&nbsp;"On Day 2 we shot Nothing but Thieves in person, and again it was such a pleasurable experience. The whole band had&nbsp;great energy and Connor (the lead singer) was up for anything and everything I threw at him.[imgtoken data:2]"For this narrative video, I got for the first time to choose professional actors which was a luxury for me.&nbsp;I needed people who were confident, comfortable and convincing for the roles I had written. I had an amazing casting director who managed to get around 130 to audition for our lead roles; it was a long day of tape watching, but to our joy we knew we had found our protagonists in Bonina and Seamus. And after our rehearsal day, I felt excited and confident that they were going to deliver and they went above and beyond."As a director you have memorable moments on set and for this one it was the end of Day 2 which was Hot Rod Diner.&nbsp;I know it sounds cheesy but I thought to myself:&nbsp;'Sh*t the bed I’m really living my dreams'.”
