Joe Connor directs an innovative and beguiling promo for Ellie Goulding's Like A Saviour.Set against a desert backdrop cycling&nbsp;through different times of day, we see Goulding and a set of dancers perform slick choreography&nbsp;whilst the environment around them transforms.&nbsp;Making use of the latest production technology, the entire video was shot against a virtual LED screen, with the sand set built right in front (and on top)&nbsp;of it, allowing the creative team to completely control every aspect of the visual.&nbsp;Aside from the magic of the technology, Goulding and the dancers hit every mark, creating an evocative video that perfectly complements the emotive track.&nbsp;"Ellie came to me with a brief that dared me to think a little differently," explains Joe Connor. "I&nbsp;wanted to throw myself in front of the latest technology and play with what was possible using the large Virtual Production Volume screens."We’ve all seen the images of the Mandalorian, but I felt that there was so much room to use this technology for artistic expression. I wanted to create a desert space where time constantly shifted, from day to night and back to day again. This felt like a really exciting and dynamic starting point to work from.&nbsp;"Working with D-Neg studios, we built a large-scale, 3D desert in Unreal Engine and then built a detailed, real-world foreground using tonnes of sand to blend into our 3D world. The ability to shift through the time of day was enhanced by David Procter’s real-world lighting, which was synchronised with the constantly changing lighting on the screen.&nbsp;"What the team has created is a video which feels unlike any other Ellie Goulding video. It’s a great example of cooperation and collaboration in the pursuit of a singular visual idea."&nbsp;

Floria Sigismondi returns to music videos with a theatrical blockbuster for Sam Smith's chart-topping Unholy,&nbsp;featuring Kim Petras.Shot in London, this eye-popping extravaganza&nbsp;is a musical set-piece packed with flair, pizzazz and sexual energy - with Sam as the charismatic MC of a small army of show-people at&nbsp;The Body Shop, the LGBTQ+ cabaret where lustful dreams come true.&nbsp;With cameos by Gottmik and Violet Chachki from RuPaul's Drag Race,&nbsp;and porn star Paddy O'Brian, the film follows a husband who ducks out on his wife and sneaks off to his favorite sex club cabaret, where he soon finds his guilty pleasures revealed in a very public manner. After discovering her husband’s unfaithful ways, the film concludes with the wife character becoming liberated by her own sexuality, rather than a victim to the scandal.A modern retelling of the spectacle of cabaret, Sigismondi&nbsp;has drawn upon her&nbsp;upbringing for this - she was born to Italian opera singer parents, and grew up amid the theatrical and the avant-garde&nbsp;- and applied her&nbsp;trademark cinematic style previously seen in her award-winning work for the likes of Gucci, Rihanna, David Bowie, and Justin Timberlake.Choreographed by French dance collective (LA)HORDE, who are famed for their ability to develop scenarios and actions that take up radically contemporary themes and questions, the seductive music video is a visual feast led by a diverse and queer cast.With references to French surrealist photographer Claude Cahun and noted corset maker of the late 20th Century, Mr. Pearl, the video’s costume designer Lisa Jarvis created an impressive range of otherworldly looks for the enormous ensemble, who were cast&nbsp;by Hannah Ashby Ward at Lane Casting (an LGBTQ+ owned company) to showcase&nbsp;real, diverse and unapologetic bodies.&nbsp;Floria Sigismondi, Director, comments: “I grew up in the world of theatre and opera. This film presented the platform for me to reach deep into that history. It was important to me to bring the theatrics and drama to the film while also giving it a modern feel. We were not interested in creating a period piece. We wanted to create our own world. The theatre and setting gave us the history of cabaret but the costumes broadened that and injected a modern element. For me it's a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and creating that celebration was the most important and joyous experience."Jannie McInnes, Executive Producer at Scheme Engine, adds: “The creative excellence and expression across departments on this project completely blew my mind. Floria sets a high bar, inspires people to bring their most creative selves and she wants everyone to have fun doing it. Taking the references in mind, I wanted to create a world where there was a huge range of visual looks and everyone embraced them. Robbie is back and presenting us with his own version of a traditional Christmas with Time For Change, directed with a nod and wink by - who else? - Vaughan Arnell.Opening with Robbie and wife Ayda's&nbsp;kids running down the hallway, bursting into the Williamses&nbsp;bedroom and setting off the day with a bang, the&nbsp;video is made up of stylised vignettes of the family making the most of the festive season.With cheeky winks from Williams, Ayda and their dog (who also lipsyncs a very catchy part of the track), everyone knows this is a little bit cheesy and fun - but isn't that what Christmas songs are all about? Especially when performed by Robbie, and directed by Vaughan.The video portraits of the family cooking dinner, opening presents and messing around in the garden feels universal, giving everyone something they can relate to. The animation on the animals also hits the mark, cementing Arnell's status as the go-to director for four-legged humour (following the incredible Clearscore adverts with Moose, the&nbsp;what doing&nbsp;dog).&nbsp;Traditional fun with a little campness and comedy thrown in, Williams effortlessly captures our attention yet again, and this is already well on its way to becoming a favourite track of the season. And we're not out of November yet...&nbsp;

And O’Donoghue is as energetic (and photogenic) as always in the stark black and white performance setup, and&nbsp;a poignant narrative depicting the breakdown of a relationship.&nbsp;It's simple in concept but executed with a cinematic scale courtesy of&nbsp;Charles Mehling's experience and craft, hitting&nbsp;the emotional highs and lows that we have grown to expect from the band's extensive videography.&nbsp;

After helming the first few videos from the new album Metronomy Forever, frontman Joseph Mount cedes directing duties to old collaborator Dan Brereton. Very good move.This reunion of the minds that brought us the first Metronomy videos over a decade ago, has now produced a lovely video for Wedding Bells - simple in concept, extremely artful and accomplished in its execution.It's a house party, where now five-piece band are gamely playing in the corner. But this get-together of hormonal teenagers is not what we might expect: its daytime, there's little sign of booze, there's lots of nice party food. Indeed, it really does resemble a much younger person's party.In the midst, one lad becomes smitten with a girl... who is with another guy. But within the logic of the piece - an afternoon nap, a dream sequence, and things getting&nbsp;out of hand in a kid's party way - things may work out...From the location to the casting, art direction and photography in 4:3 by Ruben Woodin Dechamps, this is as good a Metronomy video as we've seen in a while. And lovely to see the band back with Dan Brereton - they&nbsp;always come up with good ones.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Colin Solal Cardo rises to the challenge of directing Robyn’s latest visual - a classic, electrifying performance in a sandy ruin.&nbsp;Robyn's&nbsp;visual canon&nbsp;has a mythical prestige. Before she was a name in the UK, her devastating video for With Every Heartbeat&nbsp;was in heavy circulation; Dancing On My Own&nbsp;wouldn’t be the gay anthem it is today without Max Vitali’s video&nbsp;and the singer's glorious power stance in it; and Call Your Girlfriend&nbsp;is one of the most imitated dance sequences on the internet.These iconic pieces feel like the work of the same artist, but the common denominator is difficult to pin down. But at the heart of these videos are Robyn’s exhilarating performances. Her soprano voice can communicate a range and complexity of emotion in one bar, and these qualities bleed into her dancing. She is simultaneously strong and vulnerable, relatable and inaccessible, dorky and composed.And this is completely true of Solal Cardo's video for Ever Again.&nbsp;Most recently, he helmed a genre-bending project for Christine and the Queens. Here, he had the challenge of directing a video for one of Robyn’s quietest songs, and the result is pure&nbsp;theatre. This is not a one shot, but everything suggests that this remarkable performance was captured in one take.[imgtoken data:1]We also have an entire creative team clearly at the top of their game: the Romanesque set by Francesca di Mottola lends the video a classical gravity; Crille Forsberg shoots from every angle on glorious 35mm;&nbsp;Decida Wahlberg’s choreography is incredibly physical, oscillating between the poised and apparently spontaneous.In one ecstatic moment, in a reverie, Robyn actually spins the microphone stand above her head. Dressed in white Louis Vuitton - designed by the creative director, no less - she twists through the room, kicks up sand, then casts herself into it.&nbsp;Robyn has never looked so much like Bowie, and it suits her. If this really&nbsp;is her last heartbreak, it’ll be a great loss.&nbsp;

If you could go on a date with anyone living or dead, who would it be? Alt-J made their picks and that became the basis of Young Replicant&#39;s science fiction dance film.Acting on behalf of the band, a machine in a subterranean bunker chooses Sylvia Plath, Lee Miller and Anne Boleyn, or at least it chooses their memories. Projected through small glass discs we intercut between these haunting, animated dance scenes (choreographed by Darcy Wallace) that are given a personality based on a computer&#39;s understanding of history.There&#39;s a detached, uncanny valley element to the clip - Alex Takacs aka Young Replicant&#39;s second for the band&#39;s current album, after the brilliant&nbsp;<a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2017/04/18/alt-j-3ww-young-replicant" target="_blank">3WW</a> earlier this year &ndash; as these renditions of historical figures live again for a fleeting moment before fading with the light of the projector.

Bonobo soundtracks The Rapture in this head-spinning, hyper-detailed video by Dave Bullivant, aka BISON.With erratic, repetitive cuts showing a panicked woman, played by Gemma Arterton, running through London during what appears to be The Ascension, you could be forgiven for thinking that the video starts and ends with this clever editing concept. You would, however, be very wrong.Buried within the frames of this video are tons of visual curiosities, Easter eggs and elements of supernatural foreshadowing that show both an incredible attention to detail, and Bison&#39;s smart willingness to exploit the average viewer&#39;s inability to notice subtle changes on a first viewing.&nbsp;
