He's in Lagos, and she's in London, but WizKid can still make the girl move, in Adriaan Louw's latest video for the Afrobeat star.The second videos for two new WizKid tracks - following <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/09/16/wizkid-ghetto-love-adriaan-louw/60805" target="_blank">Ghetto Love</a>, released in September - the concept of the video for Joro is based on the idea that WizKid uses his music to create a spiritual connection with people around the world. And in this case, he connects with a female protagonist in London, causing her to progressively unwind her performance in a series of beautifully captured dance moves.This concept is symbolic of the growth and power that West African music is currently having on a global scale, and at the same time also showcases its roots within London. The Joro video&nbsp;features London-based actress and dancer&nbsp;Georgia Curtis - herself of Nigerian and Spanish descent - who elegantly connects with WizKid's music, firstly on a deserted nighttime street, then in a beauty parlour, and finally in a more theatrical set-up.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Adriaan Louw brings the WizKid backstory to life, pays&nbsp;tribute to the place that shaped him, and to the never-ending hard work&nbsp;that got him to where he is today in the video for Ghetto Life.Contrasting a series of high concept performance setups with the everyday hustle and bustle of Lagos, his hometown, we see Wizkid performing in a studio, radiating confidence as the camera circles around him.From sitting in a small boat, obsessed with listening to music on a cassette player, to where he is now, his pathway to success is inspirational, and Louw does a fine job of visually representing this journey.&nbsp;The set design in the main performance setup is a perfect backdrop for the story, allowing dozens of light beams to permeate the environment, silhouetting WizKid and a group of dancers as they celebrate life and success.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The second of four films directed by Adriaan Louw for Major Lazer&#39;s latest EP - each film filmed in a different African country, with the contributions of local artists and dancers - is for Orkant/Balance Pon It, and shot in Durban, South Africa.As with the rest of the project, its a combination of structured scenes and pure documentary. And it&nbsp;was shot in Durban, far less visible to the outside world than Johannesburg or Cape Town, due to its importance in the origins of&nbsp;Gqom &ndash; the biggest dance music craze in South Africa at the moment &ndash; which inspired the song Balance Pon It. And the video features Babes Wodumo, considered the Queen of Gqom.

With Rudimental and Major Lazer&#39;s anthemic collaboration Let Me Live about to take over our summer, South African photographer and director Chris Saunders provide the fantastic blockbuster video that the dancehall-inspired track&nbsp;deserves.As the song is a global alliance of music artists in the UK (Rudimental and guest singer Anne-Marie) the US (Major Lazer) and Africa (Nigerian rapper Mr Eazi), Saunders has created a brilliantly vibrant video that pinballs between London and Johannesburg.[imgtoken data:1]And in the South African section in particular, Saunders stages a remarkable show of colour, choreography and characer: some of the most talented dancers in South Africa provide a heart-surging display of music, dance, fashion and street culture, in an underpass of Jo&#39;burg&#39;s M2 motorway. It&#39;s dazzling, and as lead performer, Anne-Marie doesn&#39;t disappoint either - she&nbsp;is completely wrapped up in the moment too.&nbsp;Saunders, who is based between Johannesburg and Paris,&nbsp;has spent years researching and documenting South African dance and performance culture. He has revealed&nbsp;that&nbsp;the choreography for the Let Me Live video was designed to showcase the dancers&rsquo; original work.&ldquo;These dancers are often asked to work within pre-existing choreographies and set pieces,&rdquo; says Saunders. &ldquo;This was an opportunity to collaborate with the highest-level African performers on original choreography in a more consultative and respectful way.&rdquo;

A meeting of modern jazz&nbsp;and the&nbsp;traditional South African dance form of pantsula, has resulted in this scintillating video directed by&nbsp;Lebogang Rasethaba, for British &#39;post-jazz&#39; outfit&nbsp;Sons of Kemet&#39;s&nbsp;In the Castle of My Skin.&nbsp; Shot in Johannesburg, the video features the pantsula dancers of the&nbsp;Indigenous Dance Academy as a black-tie orchestra, conducted by choreographer Jarrel Mathebula. Visually, it&#39;s a study in contrasts: a convergence of the chaotic energy of pantsula with the controlled sophistication of an orchestra. Most importantly, it vibrates with joy and&nbsp;excitement.&nbsp; &ldquo;Pantsula and jazz aren&rsquo;t things that people were ever meant to see together; they both have rich histories with very different cultural and aesthetic values,&rdquo; says Lebogang. &ldquo;But framing ideas within a different context can give them new life.&rdquo;&nbsp; Indeed - and its a fine introduction to the second album, Lest We Forget What We Came Here To Do (released on September 25th) by a remarkable band, featuring some of the finest young British jazz players:&nbsp; saxophone/bass clarinet player Shabaka Hutchings; Theon Cross on tuba; and two drummers, Tom Skinner and&nbsp;Sebastian Rochford. They make a lovely racket, which gives the pantsula &#39;dance-orchestra&#39; something to get their teeth into.
