Saatchi & Saatchi OK Go Music Video Challenge winner announced
David Knight - 20th June 2013
The Grand Prize winner of the Saatchi & Saatchi OK Go Music Video Challenge has been announced.
The winner is Nelson de Castro, who was presented with his award by OK Go lead singer Damian Kulash at Saatchi & Saatchi's prestigious New Directors Showcase at the Cannes Lions advertising festival in Cannes earlier today (June 20th).
The young director beat all contenders at this year's Music Video Challenge with a video containing ingenious in-camera VFX to provide a visual interpretation of I'm Not Through, a song from OK Go's forthcoming new album.
Saatchi & Saatchi and OK Go - a band renowned for the highly inventive and cutting-edge music video output - collaborated on this, the third Music Video Challenge in successive years organised in association with BUG - the leading music video live event – and for the first time in assocation with creative collaboration platform Talenthouse.
Following the five-week competition period of the Challenge that began at the end of March, a shortlist of 12 finalists were selected by a jury comprised of members of the Saatchi & Saatchi worldwide creative board, OK Go's Damian Kulash and members of the BUG team.
Nelson video was chosen from dozens of entries as a result of his ingenious depiction of the day in the life of a young man aided by 'invisible forces'.
Nelson began studying filmmaking at the USC Film School in 2009, with an emphasis in directing, production design and animation. After graduating with degrees in Film/TV Production and Psychology, Nelson spent time working in documentary and television. He currently lives in Los Angeles, freelancing as a director, animator and art director.
