Oliver Birt directs an absorbing promo for alt-electro duo Livestock, filmed across seven days on the East Coast of Australia, the band accompanied everywhere by a LED road sign. Boasting a dusty, textural aesthetic and a unique framing device, the video for Natural Mechanisms is a breezy trip through unfamiliar roads and towns, where the location as much of a character as the artists. Spanning the cornfields and sand dunes of the Hunter, to a self service car wash in Western Sydney, the ubiquitous LED sign was used to project Livestock's lyrics, accompanied by the duo's deadpan head-bobbing.This project was shot on only 400ft of 16mm film, achieved by meticously mapping out the timing of the LED sign in preproduction. Standout work.
