Olivia McLaughlin directs a charming promo for BIIRD - an eleven-piece all-female supergroup comprising of some of Ireland’s best traditional Irish musicians and dancers. The group are changing the narrative around the image of women in trad, by teaming up with some of Ireland's most disruptive and innovative designers and stylists. And the video for The Rollover Set features the women playing in the Dolly Brae Inn, with some Guinness and some craic.Shot in a gently frantic, immersive style, the video puts you right there on location, with whip-pans and zooms to highlight the sheer amount of creativity in the room. Lovely work from director Olivia McLaughlin, who elevates a performance into something absolutely captivating.

Phillip Youmans directs an ambitious blend of sci-fi and contemporary dance in his latest collaboration with Michael Kiwanuka.The video for Floating Parade is formed of several distinctive vignettes, focussed around connection and our place on this Earth as humans. Youmans' narrative device is to have the world we take for granted seen through the eyes of individuals revealed to be extra-terrestrials.In a possible echo of the American indie classic The Brother From Other Planet, all the visitors to Earth are played by African-Americans. With an aesthetic that switches between near-future sci-fi vibes and more understated, naturalistic scenes, it's an abstract piece that feels fully immersive and touching. It strikes a very different mood to Yeomans' previous video for Kiwanuka, the UKMVA-winning video for Beautiful Life, yet they share his distinctive cinematic style. “This song is so beautiful, and it takes you to another world," Youmans explains. "I’ve always loved sci-fi, so I wanted to bring that to this idea. Through this piece, I want people to experience the simple things of life with a newfound appreciation on Earth, this floating parade that we call home.”

Director trio Bleu Desert create an unsettling and controversial promo for French rap group S-Crew. The immersive concept follows a police car during a night-time patrol in Paris, cleverly shot using only interior and exterior car mounts, depicts the BAC (Anti-Criminality Brigade of the National Police) antagonising and abusing various people on the street - and planting evidence on their targets.The latter part of the clip sees the payback - the vehicle is vehicle commandeered by the S-Crew themselves, who take it on their own tour of the neighbourhood - and building to a fiery climax. Shot on 35mm to give the video a raw, cinematic aesthetic, this stirring and thought-provoking video is a must-watch introduction to an exciting new directing collective.
