Knats 'Bowling Ball' by Lulu Vicedomini
Promonews - 14th Oct 2026
Mercury Prize-nominated jazz outfit Knats head down to the local bowling alley for a game, but things take an unexpected turn in Lulu Vicedomini's charmingly unhinged video.
Shot in the band's hometown of Newcastle and South Shields, Vicedomini's video for Bowling Ball is a tale of lo-fi lunacy involving the main trio in the band plus spoken word artist Cooper, discovering that the eponymous ball is not happy on being rolled down a bowling lane. And it wants revenge.
Although Cooper shouts out the 'Skittles' on various occasions during the track, the self-motivated bowling ball never reaches them, preferring to chase the band across town.
Vicedomini has a talent for visual comedy and as she intercuts the main action with titles and stills, the result is joyful. It's basically slapstick, and its great way to show the fun-loving personality of the band - and that Knats' version of jazz is not just for chin-stroking hipsters.Â
And Lulu Vicedomini will be introducing the Bowling Ball video, and more of her work, at Music Video Preservation Society's Mercury Prize special at the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle on Friday, October 16th. Check ticket availabilty for the show here.
