Simza Saracli X Imogen Heap 'SIMZA' by Beki Mari

Promonews - 13th July 2026

Beki Mari's film SIMZA is a portrait of a dancer at the edge of possibility.

The Paris-based film director and creative director's latest film follows the talented dancer Simza Saracli through a fading Parisian atelier, accompanied by the haunting beauty of Imogen Heap's What Have You Done To Me. This is the space in which Saracli tests her limits both physically, emotionally, and practically - and demonstrates that she is an exceptional talent, combining the graceful skills of a dancer with the power and flexibility of a gymnast.

The choreography also mirrors the dancer's real-life journey. She is currently training at Rambert School in London after crowdfunding her journey from Turkey. Her resilience and ambition are embedded into Mari's independently conceived and self-funded film.

The filming and editing of SIMZA also matches the dancer's fluidity and energy, dovetailed to Imogen Heap's propulsive electronic track. There is a combination of flowing shots with moments of rapidfire editing, and it results in a compelling viewing experience.

"Alongside commercial work, I try to dedicate time to projects with emerging artists whose stories deserve to be seen - SIMZA is one of those projects," explains Mari, who has recently worked with Lewis Capaldi, Lola Young, Florence + The Machine and Glass Animals. And this is certainly a personal project that elevates both the subject and the director.
