Mary Coughlan 'Is That All There Is?' by Josh O Caoimh
David Knight - 2nd June 2026
Josh O Caoimh brings a variety of animation styles to revered Irish singer Mary Coughlan's interpretation of a remarkable song, originally made famous by Peggy Lee.
Irish animator and filmmaker O Caoimh employs a combination of 3D and handdrawn animation, exploring themes of despair, loneliness, and the search for meaning in the 20th century. There is a lightness and humour about a very serious subject which sits very well with the song Is That All There Is? - one of the great existential torch songs of the 20th century.
Mary Coughlan has reimagined this song and others from Mirrors, a Peggy Lee album from 1969 written by legendary songwriters Leiber & Stoller. And the video is a lovely introduction to the project, to the voice of Coughlan and this song... the ultimate anthem of disillusionment.
