Matshidiso Mohajane 'Quiet Love' by Charlie Toko
Rob Ulitski - 12th Mar 2021
Charlie Toko directs a poignant, hopeful promo for London-based singer-songwriter Matshidiso's Quiet Love.
The song and video are an inspired response to the story of Mildred and Richard Loving, whose marriage was ruled illegal by the State of Virginia until the decision was overturned by the US Supreme Court in 1967.
It was their quiet defiance, the sureness of their love that was so empowering to the point of bringing about real change.
Depicting a diverse selection of couples, the film celebrates love in all its forms - exploring both the emotion and the journey through candid vignettes.
Charlie Toko and DoP Charlie Knight create an intimate aesthetic by getting up close with the camera, whilst portrait-style shots allow the personality of each couple to shine through.
