Girlgroup Four Of Diamonds take control of their own narrative in Chris Turner aka Favourite Colour: Black's vibrant video for The Writer.

The girls are facing off against a God-like narrator called Mr Domino, who types every lyric and action onto an old typewriter. He smugly takes pleasure in the control he thinks he has on these women - but things are about to change.

Then the girls smash through the limitations society has imposed on them, with an empowering display of choreography and high-energy performance. The Four rewrite a new beginning, taking their rightful place centre-stage, nothing holding them back.

DoP Luke Scully utilises plenty of frenetic camera moves and distorted composition to create the breathless atmosphere, matching the concept and themes perfectly.

"The idea developed from a number of key references - from Paul Auster’s Travels in the Scriptorium to Dolly Parton’s Nine to Five, with a tiny dash of Jack Torrence - to reflect the key message of the song, about being the author of your own narrative.

"Following on from our Long Way to Go video, the Four of Diamonds girls displayed their relentless work ethic once again and turned a pre-Covid, rushed shoot day into a genuine pleasure."
