Kacy Hill 'Hard To Love' by J.A.C.K.
David Knight - 16th June 2017
After the emotional and erotically-charged video for Like A Woman, directing duo JACK have created another audacious and controversial piece in their second collaboration with Kacy Hill.
For Hard To Love, the singer submits herself to a 'graphic performance' by artist Christophe Brunnquell, who proceeds to write the song's lyrics on Hill's body - beginning with the word Trust on both her eyelids.
What is striking is the full commitment to the idea, which in effect puts Hill in her interlocutor's control - nearly naked, strapped and suspended as he uses her as a canvas, with no half-measures. All this is captured with characteristic intimacy by Steve Annis's camerawork.
But curiously it appears to be the second big pop video in recent weeks that is contestably influenced by the work of British arthouse director Peter Greenaway. Just don't call it a lyric video.
