Craig Finn 'God In Chicago' by Kris Merc
Cat Velez - 17th Mar 2017
Kris Merc's video for American singer Craig Finn's song God In Chicago is a beautifully directed and incredibly bittersweet proposition, visualising two friends' escapade from the suburbs to the big city in the wake of a family tragedy.
It's an intimate love story amidst plenty of sadness, but the couple make the most of a weekend away. They hit the road, sleep in motels, take photographs of each other, eat out at a fancy restaurant, eventually closing the physical gap between them and sharing a bed.
American homes, strip malls and city scapes roll by while Craig Finn's narrative prose can be heard, taking us on an emotional journey peppered with little details of time, place and bits of dialogue. The visuals and words pair up to paint a complete picture of very strong, mingling emotions, roadtrip escapism and human interdependence. Sadly all roadtrips must come to an end...
