Banfi 'Happy When You Go' by Jake Dypka
Luke Bather - 5th Jan 2017
Jake Dypka paints a surreal family portrait with added performance for Banfi.
Referencing old videos from synth pop acts like Tears For Fears, Duran Duran, and the Police, the video takes a lighter approach to the non-narrative format. Set in a Twin Peaks-esque suburban environment, the video shows a hula hooping girl as she hoops her way out of existence under the watchful gaze of her overbearing parents.
With a great eye on production design, including some wonderfully atmospheric exteriors of the house, the throwback style of the video feels authentic, yet the VFX work makes the piece a contemporary performance video with a twist.
