Odonis Odonis 'Needs' by Scott Cudmore
Toronto-based Odonis Odonis have released this dark and dystopian visual for their track Needs, directed by Scott Cudmore, which is equal parts gripping, thought-provoking and unsettling.
Driven forward by destructive and libidinous forces but with no formal narrative structure, the clip is made up of striking glimpses into lurid scenarios, with plenty of creeping zooms into the grimacing faces of powerful white men. Scott explains, "“For me, this is a video about oppression, objectification, commodification - old, entitled white men. It’s about them and the system of oppression and exploitation that they’ve created to serve their, well… needs."
"I’m looking at this through the lens of science fiction but I wanted to depict that power structure breaking down. Breaking down internally. There’s clearly no linear narrative and you are free to think of that aspect in any way that you want, but each image is a depiction of this breakdown and of repression, exploitation and finally, desperation."
