Mr. Silla 'Breathe' by Thora Hilmars
Cat Velez - 22nd Sept 2015
Icelandic singer Mr. Silla has introducing herself through this surprisingly violent visual treatment for her debut single, Breathe.
Directed by Thora Hilmars, it follows a relentless and drawn-out fight between two women, one of which is the angst-ridden singer. Read more about the director's concept as well as the strange and beautiful shoot location below...
THORA HILMARS:
"The name of the song triggered an idea of some way of survival. Then we wanted to make something that would be somewhat of a juxtaposition to the softness in the music. In the video we encounter two figures already locked in combat.
"As Silla, one of the two, and her assailant chase each other and collide within the claustrophobic confines of an industrial complex and out in the bright summer nights in Iceland, it feels like a time of day that you don’t recognise or you can’t place. It was also exciting to us to show female characters taking on a less often explored way of communicating."
