Greg Holden 'Boys In The Street' by Brett Sullivan
Cat Velez - 19th June 2015
Brett Sullivan has directed this video for Greg Holden's Boys In The Street, using a clever method to visualise the song's strong narrative thread. Together with a purposeful performance by Holden, the difficult relationship between father and son is told through mannequins.
Interspersed with familiar close-ups of the kitchen where the chastisement is regularly held, shots of the mannequins are stunningly effective in their ability to convey his father's steely and abusive rejection of his son's sexual orientation. Consequently the video's combination of subtle and understated devices packs a real emotional punch.
