Wolf Alice 'Bros' by 'Sblood
Cat Velez - 2nd June 2015
'Sblood duo Gareth Phillips and Simon Milner of Is Tropical, collaborated with Wolf Alice for their previous video Giant Peach – a humourous music biz satire of arrogant rock stars and their over-eager managers. This time they step away from the comedic form and create this moving portrayal of youth and best-friendship, by shooting real-life friends Tia and Elise.
GARETH PHILLIPS OF 'SBLOOD:
"The song is a celebration of best friends. I found out that Ellie (lead singer) wrote the song about her and her best mate when they were cheeky kids, and we wanted to create a video that stayed true to what she was singing about without being totally literal.
"Shane Meadows’s film Somers Town and the way it presented a relationship between two friends within a moment of time was an influence. Another influence was the work of Terrence Malick, especially the montage scenes of Tree of Life. I also love Lynne Ramsey’s Ratcatcher. She cast actors and real people and creates an atmosphere where the film’s boundaries between non-fiction and fiction are blurred.
"We were lucky enough to find Tia and Elise, who were friends. We wanted to capture a real friendship so it was a no-brainer to use them, their energy and enthusiasm was incredible. And it was great to make a video that was a contrast to the absurdity of Giant Peach. Fair play to the band for enabling us to capture the lovely and real friendship of Tia and Elise."
