Fono 'Real Joy' by Simon Cahn
Cat Velez - 30th Apr 2015
The intimate relationship of two girls takes on a surprising, surreal, and certainly unhinged dimension in the video for Brighton-based DJ Fono's track Real Joy, directed by French filmmaker Simon Cahn.
In short the deep affection of two young girls frolicking in the countryside takes a violent turn - initially in jest, it seems, but then getting more and more fearsome, and blood-soaked. Not that they seem to mind. Cahn's video shows that the margin between love and violence can be very fine indeed.
SIMON CAHN:
“The idea for this video came from my love for surprise and contradictions. I thought it would be great to play on the clichés of eerie youth movies like The Virgin Suicides or Morvern Callar, and suddenly transform this friendship and love story into a playful, violent and surreal battle.”
