Kwabs 'Perfect Ruin' by George Belfield
David Knight - 5th Feb 2015
As a young director George Belfield has shown great promise with his videos for the likes of Arthur Beatrice and Richard Hawley. But now he takes it to the next level with this is a beautiful execution of Kwabs' soul ballad Perfect Ruin.
Shot in sub-zero temperatures in and around the town of Lulea in the north of Sweden, this has a simple, bold concept - the London singer takes a walk through deserted snowbound town into the icy wilderness beyond. But it's the cinematic approach - facilitated by Steve Annis's wonderful photography - which gives the video its power. It's intimate and epic, and an almost perfect mix of pop video and pure cinema.
