Belle & Sebastian 'Party Line' by Leblanc + Cudmore
After their recent videos for Timber Timbre and Alt-J, Michael Leblanc and Scott Cudmore are definitely on a roll. Their intriguing video for Belle & Sebastian's Party Line - taken from their forthcoming new album Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance – is fine indeed. It tells the story of a girls' infatuation for a young man in at least two distinct styles, giving it a different interpretation each time, to reveal more of the narrative.
Scott wrote this, and Michael photographed it - in two wildly contrasting formats - and its dreamlike quality is emphasised by what happens on the dancefloor: a sort of Northern Soul ballet, choreographed by Robert Binet.
It all leads to a poignant moment which is very Belle & Sebastian...
