Beck 'Heart Is A Drum' by Sophie Muller
Sophie Muller has made hundreds, perhaps thousands of music videos. She's still making great ones. For Beck's Heart Is A Drum Sophie takes a motley cast - a leading lady, a handsome priest, the grim reaper, a couple of astronauts, a young rockstar version of Beck, and Beck himself - takes them out down to a tumbledown farm, and creates magic.
If there's a narrative, it's far less important than the flow of imagery and music. Great, interesting photography (by two cameramen, Giovanni Ribisi and Ben Rivers), lovely edit (by Sophie and Owen Oppenheimer)... Perhaps the video is a bit of a Nineties throwback - appopriately for Beck. Who cares? This is why music videos is a beautiful artfom in its own right.
If music videos had a poet laureate, the most eminent, greatest exponent of the craft - who better than Sophie Muller?
