Mayflower Madame 'Into The Haze' by Kenneth Karlstad
David Knight - 21st Mar 2014
A dancer (Maria Grazia) confronts some invisible demons in Kenneth Karlstad's video for Norwegian band Mayflower Madam's Into The Haze, influenced by German Expressionism - with a substantial extra nod, in the case of the band, to Echo & The Bunnymen.
KENNETH CARLSTAD: "There's a thin line between expressionism and pretentiousness. Especially in modest countries like ours, Norway. My main goal with this project was to try and balance on that line.
"Our video portrays an evening where an ambitious dancer is confronted by a vicious presence in the studio. The aesthetic of both the video and the band is heavily influenced by the German Expressionist movement from the early 1900's."
