Directing partnership Richard Paris Wilson and Tommy Nagle - aka We Are Cowboys - follow up their impressive video for M83's Intro and Richard's solo direction job for Moonchild (they were both entries for the M83 video competition through Genero.tv) with this one for Button Eyes which, appropriately enough, has a Western theme.

Not that the as-yet unsigned directing duo have taken on the Western genre straight. The video for Simple Days was shot in Laredo - that's a Western-themed town to be found in the garden of England - Kent. And We Are Cowboys adds mystery and surrealism to the sense of elegy as their old cowboy hero returns home, one last time...

"The instruments in the track and the timelessness of the vocals allowed us to delve into the world of the Western. The Western genre in-turn provided a beautifully cinematic backdrop for the kind of intimate story we wanted to tell. 

"I also find Westerns a haunting genre to watch in general. As you know all the towns are long destroyed or deserted, all the characters would be dead, and even many of the great Western actors have passed away. That sense of loss plays prominently into our story."
