Kyasma ‘Radioactivity’ by Jean-Paul Frenay
Promo News - 3rd June 2013
Jean-Paul Frenay delivers a riveting sci-fi thriller for Swiss rockers Kyasma and their track Radioactivity. Featuring some cool make-up SFX, the video tells the tale of a ‘looming sci-fi-etched crystalline disease’ that inevitably takes it’s toll on the promo’s main protagonist, played by Denis Carpentier .
“The band actually called me after seeing my short film Artificial Paradise, Inc,” explains Jean-Paul. “They wanted me to direct their first music video. I had total creative freedom to create a story around the track. It was to be able to tell a story without having to include any performance of the band inside the video.
“I immediately told them about this idea of a man being infected by a biomechanical disease and the struggle to stay alive while being hunted by the government. The end brings another interesting layer to the story which open up the interpretation of what we think is real.
“We shot two days with an Alexa and mainly on steadicam. The macro shots were done with a 5D mk2 – postproduction took about two months and a lot of love.”
