Veronika Bolotina
Film director, stand-up comedian, and someone who genuinely enjoys making people laugh.
Originally from Belarus and now a naturalized German citizen, Veronika’s journey into
filmmaking began at home. She grew up watching movie marathons with her parents,
enjoying everything from Barry Sonnenfeld “The Addams Family” to Kusturica’s “Black Cat,
White Cat”. It didn’t take long for her to realize she could make her own films, with friends
and family often becoming her first cast.
Veronika creates visually poetic and socially conscious films, known for their satirical edge.
Her work often explores political critique, memory, and strong female-driven narratives. She
blends the texture of traditional 16 mm film with modern hybrid formats to craft a distinctive
visual language : one that’s a little weird, a little funny, but always honest and relatable. For
her, comedy usually comes after the drama. It’s what happens when you’ve cried enough or
at least, that’s how it tends to go in her world.
Her recent short film The Last Judgment premiered in the Interfilm Berlin Spotlight
program. Her 16 mm documentary It’s Not For Me is set to premiere with Girls in Film.
