The return of Kodaline also heralds the return of Stevie Russell, their regular music video collaborator, with a tale that might just be his most heart-rending work yet.It starts in the darkest circumstances, at the funeral of a child. The focus is on another child, the younger brother of the recently deceased, who at first seems oblivious to the enormity of the situation.What follows is a poignant supernatural tale. The older brother (and he&#39;s the spitting image of the younger one) comes back, for a night of play. And the viewer always knows, what the little boy cannot, that&nbsp;the magic and joy is temporary.Concisely told - and this is edited by music video editing legend Tony Kearns - Russell&#39;s video is about the stages of grief, which must start when when you move on from the stage of denial.

Half of director duo <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2012/11/05/tensnake-feat-syron-mainline-pondr">Pondr</a>,&nbsp;TJ O&#39;Grady-Peyton&nbsp;has gone it alone produce this rather lovely piece that&#39;s only gone and gotten him shotlisted for the prestigious&nbsp;2013 Cannes Young Directors Award.Presented as a test promo for sportwear brand Adidas, we&#39;re initially presented a biog of an up and coming young Irish boxer. &nbsp;Then something starts to twig and you realise that we&#39;re not in Kansas anymore -&nbsp; It&#39;s a subtle and well presented&nbsp;superhero story.TJ used only actors from the filming area and felt he&nbsp;&quot;wanted to make a piece that felt grounded in Irishness, but also had an international feel that could be understood by anyone in the world despite what language you spoke. I wanted the ad to feel edgy, fresh and cool. It was important for me to cast real boxers (young and old) who had great charisma and confidence on screen.&quot;

Kodaline&#39;s brand of melodic rock has been accompanied by some impressive narrative videos, particularly the hugely popular heartstring-puller for <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/2012/08/28/kodaline-all-i-want-by-stevie-russell/" target="_blank">All I Want</a>, directed by and featuring Stevie Russell as the facially disfigured hero.And now comes Stevie&#39;s video for the band&#39;s High Hopes &ndash; another heart-in-mouth story, with top Irish actor Liam Cunningham playing a man about to end it all, with a hosepipe attached to his car exhaust, until the woman he loves (played by Naimh Large) arrives in her wedding dress with an irate bridegroom and wedding guests hot on her heels... With excellent performances by the actors, it&#39;s heart-rending stuff - and like All I Want, superbly edited by the Colonel himself, Tony Kearns. And a big ending too...Frankly, if you don&#39;t have a lump in your throat by then you may want to check your pulse.&nbsp;

Willem Dafoe and Carice van Houten star in Nabil Elderkin&#39;s astonishing clip for Antony and the Johnsons&#39; Cut The World.You really won&#39;t forget this one in a hurry. What starts as a gentle, reflective portrait of a businessman and his PA on an ordinary workday morning - with a suggestion of romance - turns into something else entirely. Its consummate filmmaking - great performances, beautifully shot by Lasse Frank - and its very very dark...The concept of the video was developed through collaboration between Nabil and Antony - who is also the curator of this year&#39;s Meltdown Festival and has been expressing some <a href="http://www.dazeddigital.com/artsandculture/article/14121/1/antony-hegarty-future-feminism" target="_blank">unusual views on gender politics</a> recently. Still, not quite as extreme as what&#39;s going on here.Men in positions of authority - you may want to start wearing polo necks after watching this...

Don't be fooled by the LA setting. This video is as Irish as a flame-haired colleen sipping a pint of the black stuff on the banks of the Liffey. While listening to U2.
Clever Dublin-based directing team D.A.D.D.Y. - that's Mike Ahean and Enda Loughman - directed the new video for big Eire export The Script, then editing legend Tony Kearns cut it in his own back yard. It was even commissioned by a chap named O'Keefe.
And after the rooftop performance and the literal narrative, the shattering time-slice payoff comes as quite a surprise.

D.A.D.D.Y. on making the video for The Script's Talk You Down
"We were asked by The Script and Sony to write an idea for Talk You Down as they liked an idea we had for a previous video. We sent it off and thought no more of it, and hunched back over our computers in our cold studio, but just after Christmas they decided to go with it.
"It was our first promo with a 'bigger budget', and therefore to keep it real - i.e. ensure there was lots of pressure and nobody made any money - we threw everything into the mix from shooting on 35mm in LA to stunt driven car crashes to wire-work.
"The two night shoot was pretty intense, especially the first night when we shot the performance and the stunt sequences, and managed to almost squash a band member and total the hero car we needed for the next night.
"The Script boys were as sound as three pounds and were up for everything and seemed to enjoy the whole experience. We did too. In our day off we even managed to squeeze in a few hours shooting hand guns while on segways, got to be featured extras in the new season of Heroes and meet Cher.
"Back in cold Dublin, we edited with 'The Colonel' - Mr. Tony Kearns - and posted in Screen Scene. Props are due to Mike in Sony and especially Mary our producer who 'talked us down' on many occasions over the shoot.
