Taken from her third album Tiger Suit (Sept 20), the video was shot on the outskirts of Nashville where Minor brings out the laid-back feel of the track with homegrown imagery of samlltown America.

Producer Justin Diener explains: "When Andreas was a young artist he did a year long residency in a small town in the Scottish Hebrideans Islands called Lochmaddy. His only friend was a local Shepard named Adam. 
"One night at the pub Adam told Andreas about a newborn sheep he had just delivered that was horribly deformed, the creature was like a fuzzy egg with one arm, a mouth and one eye. Sadly, Adam had to kill the poor beast. 
"Andreas was obviously haunted by this story when he created this video for Madder Red. We witness the final day of "Bommel" had he been adopted by actress Kristen Bell and raised in Mar Vista, CA".

A bearded child-god, protected by Amazon women, is called upon to explain a wondrous miracle occurrence at the beach. And what a scene it is to behold: it's as nasty as it wants to be.
It's the latest from Andreas Nilsson for Miike Snow, and another very wacky tale. With a completely genius pay-off. 
It was shot in Kingston, Jamaica - shortly before some very nasty things went down over there. Although this production also had its fair share of tasty adventures by the sounds of it. Producer Jason Botkin was relieved of a sizeable amount of cash, and was close to a machine gun shooting of a bus. "But overall I had a great time," he says. That's the spirit.

But Andreas Nilsson's video for Flash Delirium - shot over one long cold day at Clue Mansions in Yonkers, NY - the first single from the new MGMT album, is of a different order. It should be wrapped in a straightjacket and carted off to the nearest funny farm. It's completely mental. 
But then, that's families for you...

MGMT’s Flash Delirium by Andreas Nilsson

Saam's clever sliding-split-screener is the official video of Cheryl's new single, but Vincent Haycock has directed the officially-sanctioned viral version for 3 Words. 
Atmospheric, cinematic and romantic - in the style of HK master Wong Kar-wei - it was shot by Vince and his estimable DoP Matthias Koenigswieser "on the only rainy night in Los Angeles in six months."

Actually part of Weiden &amp; Kennedy's campaign for new Nike shoe The Hyperizer rather than a bona fide video (rather in the same vein as Nima Nourizadeh's ad/video for Adidas) Andreas Nilsson has not allowed his Swedish knowledge of basketball (ie not much) to cramp his verve and visual wit. In fact, it might even have helped.
The Hyperizers are comprised of several NBA stars, while DJ Quik wrote the track. Andreas and co. spent two weeks in scorching Vegas making it, which must have been tough on the senior citizen dancing girls.

Hyperizers’ Don't Criticize, Hyperize by Andreas Nilsson

The skate-boys hit their local piñata store to mess around, have some fun - and romance the cashier-girl.
Vince Haycock's slice-of-life in downtown LA for MSTRKRFT - with romantic John Legend on vocals - is beautifully done.

"I loved the song, but it took me a while to figure out what it was that drew me to it. It's catchy, obviously, but there was also something about the way John Legend sings it - it's pretty deadpan. And whereas a normal heartbreak song would be more of a ballad, the music here was much more uptempo and catchy.
"All this suggested a bittersweet quality to me. Yeah, the song is acknowledging heartbreak, but at the same time it's also advocating for it in a sense because, really, what are your other options This is reaffirmed by the narrative the lyrics tell: the narrator knows the heartbreak is coming, but he doesn't avoid it.
"There's a writer I work with a lot, David Berthy, and he and I talked about how every heartbreak invariably begins with a beautiful moment. I kept thinking about James Dean and The Outsiders. David liked the interplay between Marlon Brando and the rest of his gang in The Wild One - how the rest of the gang is just interested in having fun but Brando is drawn to love. It reminded me of the packs of kids that you see on the streets of LA on skateboards. This delicate age was once described to me by a DJ named Larry Tee as the Morrissey years, because it represented the window in life where Morrissey made more sense than anything else. That description has always stuck with me as the perfect tag for that period of angst-ridden youth we all go through, and I definitely tried to capture some of that here.
"By combing all these elements, we created a narrative about a group of kids who go into a store. The leader focuses on the girl working there, and the rest of the kids go into their own thing. By having the store manager sleep and the store be empty of customers, it allows for this three minute window where everyone gets to have their own little journey free of restrictions.
"Of course everything changed once shooting got closer. Originally, I'd been thinking of a ninety-nine cent-type store, but then we found the piñata stores in downtown LA. They have an incredible visual texture, something Matthias Koenigswieser, the DP, really captured. I wanted the video to feel authentic, like a short film about LA's youth, to capture the mix of cultures and weirdness of the landscape. I love how the piñatas dangle from the ceiling, and how every aisle is packed full of figurines and toys and bags of candy.
"The cast came together really well I think. I'd worked with Morgan Krantz, who is the main guy, on an installation piece I just did for the opening of the Modern Wing of the Art Institute in Chicago. I love his presence in front of the camera, and I think he really sells the narrative in the video. The rest were a mix of professionals and friends and people I pulled off the street. The kid who draws the devil horns and puts on the piñata head is fifteen, and he frequents a skateshop and is part of LA skate gang, "Endless Bummer," that my friend Keith started. As for the shoot, we shot it at night, and the street was pretty desolate, but even though we were in there people kept coming in and trying to buy things.
"With the initial edits, I worried that the video was too sweet. Sweetness isn't something I'm used to working with. But through the editing process with Lee Gardner, I was able to balance the love story more with the journeys of the other characters. I went back to the location and got some sound design for the intro, and I really liked how that added to the texture. By the end of it, I was happy with how it all came together. We have been describing it as a modern-day-punk-Breakfast-club."

MSTRKRFT’s Heartbreaker by Vincent Haycock

Keith Schofield's new video for NYC rapper Mims is such a great thing you'll enjoy it first without thinking that much about how he did all those wonderful FX. Or possibly because your head can't take it all in.
But suffice to say, it's bloody clever. There's Mims himself gliding across the screen left to right - and then there's all the movement behind him - including slo-mo bodypoppers "scratching" back and forth. And then, to top it all off, there's the 'slit photography' stuff...
With echoes of his vids for <a href="http://keithschofield.com/goose/">Goose</a> and <a href="http://keithschofield.com/1br-video/">One Block Radius</a> - and same track name as his recent video for CSS - Keith has just pushed his envelope once again. What's more, he thoroughly explains how he's doing it with his awesome, idiot-proof <a href="http://keithschofield.com/treatments/mims/">treatment</a>.
He almost makes it look straightforward...

Just before his outstandingly porno viral for <a href="http://current.com/items/89337913_diesel_sfw_xxx_fashion_firm_makes_cheeky_sfw_porn_ad">Diesel</a>, and the clutch of nominations at the MVAs (in <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/2008/09/29/uk-music-video-awards-2008-%e2%80%93-the-best-video-nominations-in-full/">best rock video and best dance video</a>, and <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/2008/09/29/uk-music-video-awards-2008-%e2%80%93-the-technical-achievement-award-nominations-in-full/">best editing in a video</a>) Keith Schofield's freshest piece was his new Ting Tings video. It would be a shame if in the heat of the moment that went overlooked.
As if! Anyway, Keith shot this video in Chicago and used a portable rear screen projection to follow the band as they walk and drive the city streets.
It was photographed by Streetgang regular Shawn Kim, and Marshall Plante provided the grade, so it looks f*ckin' A. LA's Ingenuity Engine provided the VFX work, so it looks even more, er, A.
And old-style catchy pop tune too - I thought the Ting Tings album was only supposed to have two decent songs on it

The Ting Tings’ Be The One by Keith Schofield

The Automatic, faced with the difficult job of following up a Monster record, have swapped South Wales for something a bit more exotic.
Paul Minor's video will have environmental campaigners growling in disgust but in fact it's arguably the best location ever: a aeroplane graveyard in the Mojave Desert. Expect Top Gear producers to be all over it as soon as they see this.

The band rock away amid the rotting hulks of 747s through sandstorms, and try to avoid snakes on planes (right). And like all work out of Streetgang Films it's great looking - it was shot by SGF newbie Carlos Veron.

[pay]Norman Cook's record for innovative music video high-jinks is a merit badge to be cherished and maintained - even when he slides into a brand new, non-Fatboy Slim incarnation.
So it's a good move to hand the baton to Keith Schofield, who is being increasingly cherished himself for his ability to combine technical curiosity with an impish sense of fun.
And lo and behold, we have lots of naked young people, making things with their private parts. Well, the black bars that cover their bits.
It's a video to do full justice to Norman's recharged creative battery, and he also makes one of his best cameo appearances ever.
He certainly looks invigorated.

"I was apprehensive about working with so many unclothed people. I don't think I've even directed a scene with two people kissing. But the project was never meant to be sexual. I pitched it as: 'It's about as erotic as a naked guy streaking through a football game.'
"We had a pretty low turnout for casting, but I was happy with a high percentage of people. We were basically casting on charisma and looks. The censored black bars are a relic of the 70s, and I wanted to capture that all-natural vibe from the decade. So we requested for no tattoos, spray tan, or silicon implants - which may have contributed to our low turn out. But I was really happy with the cast that we ended up with.
"The shoot went really well. Everyone got desensitized to the nudity pretty quickly. All the actors seemed to be having a really fun time; I actually had to ask them to bring down the energy for the party scenes, but good vibes all around.
"It helped that we had a rehearsal day - everyone was dressed in bikinis and swimsuits - so it was in many ways a warmup for the shoot day. I had diagrams for all of the shapes and letters; but it took a while to figure out how to exactly place everyone.
"Believe it or not, I really had a hard time coming up with shapes. In my treatment, I wrote 'the possibilities are endless'. But in truth there are a ton of factors that limit what you can do. People can only bend so far - and I didn't want to ask them to lie on top of each other for the overhead shots.
"One idea I had which was impossible to shoot was to have the entire group slowly spelling out the word FUCK, only to have the entire word censored out with one massive black bar.
"Working with Norman Cook was a lot of fun. I'm a huge music video nerd, and working with an artist who had been responsible for two of Spike Jonze's best videos was truly a thrill.
"It was Norman's idea to do the giant spinning black bar for his cameo, and to his credit, he did his entire cameo all nude. After the shoot, he gave the entire cast and myself tickets to Coachella, where he was playing the following night.
"All in all, this was a really great experience. I think was one of the few times that a video came out almost exactly as I wanted it to. It's been fun seeing it go viral so quickly - although I'm a bit perplexed why so many people would rip the embedded video and repost it - especially under pretentious titles like Censor Bar Art.
"I'm not sure a smiley face and stick figure count as art - patterns, shapes, sure. I wish they would at least give credit to the musicians - I mean, we're doing this to sell albums and concert tickets, right"[/pay]

Vincent Haycock gives Editors an appropriately widescreen canvas with his slice of sci-fi magic, shot in the extraordinary setting of Santa Clarita, a small suburb on the outskirts of LA built on the edge of a mountain.Sony BMG commissioner Dan Millar says it was a little weird walking around this Speilbergian paradise. &quot;It was all manicured lawns, and where we shot is surrounded by gated communities,&quot; he says. &quot;But beyond the fence you can see in the video it just drops off into desert.&quot;In Haycock&#39;s supernatural interpretation of the song&#39;s lyrics a little girl pulls off a cosmic feat with a stick of chalk&ndash; and brings to mind a popular TV show about super powers.
