Shane Davey has used different formats - including 16mm and Super8 - in this celebration of one of London&#39;s most hardworking bands, the country rock outfit Curse Of Lono.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;For Just My Head&nbsp;the band and I talked about shooting multiple formats across a bunch of gigs to try and capture some of their live energy,&quot; he says. &quot;Classic Rock magazine reviewed their Hoxton Square bar show as &#39;Exile On Main Street meets William Faulkner&#39; and the challenge was to present that tone in a band&#39;s debut video.&quot;I dusted off my old Bell &amp; Howell clockwork 16mm camera and my super8 to shoot alongside Callum Henderson&nbsp;on his Canon and Ahmet on the Arri Amira. The band play constantly around London and this multi-format collage is a loving tribute to their renegade spirit, bristling energy and infectious performances.&quot;

Shane Davey returns to directing music videos after a hiatus - coming back in gore-drenched style for metal supergroup Axewound's Exochrist. 
That girl casting spells in the Satanist pentagram is asking for trouble and it duly arrives - in the form of a succubus from Hell, gallons of blood, and a fair amount of flesh-eating, all excellently shot by Sara Deane, with a propulsive edit by Vid Price and a sumptuous grade by Aubrey Woodiwiss.
"I was buried in my second feature script when I got the call about a metal supergroup," says Shane. "I hadn't shot a video in six months and was enjoying the break but the lure of Axewound was too great. 
"I'd previously shot Matt (guitar &amp; vocals) in his other band Bullet For My Valentine's video Bittersweet Memories (and was chuffed to hear they regard it as their best video), Joe (bass) had been in Rise To Remain and I'd shot two successful videos for them last year, and Jason the drummer also drums for Pitchshifter whose tune Hidden Agenda I love and have had on my ipod gym playlist for years, so it was impossible not to get involved.
"I submitted a fun treatment featuring blood, guts and painted backdrop of hell. The label said yes, yes, yes and to forget about TV. I got my favourite team involved, along with Will (freelance producer), two girls &amp; one priest, and then we had some fun shooting in Halliford. During the edit Vid reigned us back in and balanced out all the elements as only he can, then we polished it off with an awesome Aubrey grade. It is definitely Not Safe For Work and probably Not Safe For Church either."

Shot in Shoreditch Magistrates Court - with the facility acting as the perfect atmospheric backdrop - the Bakery Boys enlist Courtney Edwards for the promo to their hip-hop ballad Up And Down Girl. 
Courtney also directed the Bakery Boys vid for Hustlin' Behaviour - and he's now joining the roster at Rokkit for music video representation.

"Vertex is one of the Marvell Crew with Double S and Shokka. He directed their previous video and asked if I would be up for getting involved in the new one as they wanted something photographed guerrilla-style around north London.
"We spent a chaotic day racing around shooting on a 60 year old vintage Bell &amp; Howell Filmo 16mm camera which is brilliant for guerrilla-style shooting because, as well as being an indestructible piece of precision engineering, it is also a gorgeous antique so civilians actually like looking at it instead of complaining about obstruction or whatever minor quibble becomes the focus of their existence for an afternoon whenever they see a camera crew on the streets. We had a fun day, shot some nice stuff and cut it together."

"I'd been to a weird party where there was one middle-aged dude totally off his tits sleazing over all the girls and I thought that guy is a perfect, intimidating character for a video somewhere down the line.
"I started with him and our young girl - wrong place, wrong time - and built it up from there. It was important that the band's teenage following connect with the main character and feel the claustrophobia and intimidation.
"Her escape route was influenced by a scene in Escape From New York where Snake shoots a hole in some polyboard and jumps through it, the opening title sequence to the Sly Stallone film Paradise Alley, and of course Glazer's Levi's Odyssey commercial, where we blatantly ripped two of our angles from. We cast a young gymnast with proper acting experience and off she went."

Enter Shikari find themselves in a spot of bother in Shane Davey's video for Juggernauts - being tied to posts in the blazing desert while ominous cloaked pygmies lurk in the distance.
Shane and crew created it all in the studio, but that's okay - it's a metaphor. And the photography (by Tom Townend) and grade make it look pulsatingly hot anyway.
"It was commissioned the day before the Easter bank holiday, whilst the band were being signed to Atlantic and Claire was suffering from the most terrible cold, giving us one 'school day' to book almost an entire shoot," explains Shane.
"The addition of the cloaked people or 'Jawas' as they became known, happened over the bank holiday weekend, but luckily Hannah Edwards jumped to the rescue knocking up some great costumes for the little people - the band's eight-year old brothers - to wear."

In the new You Me At Six video by Shane Davey - his second for the band - daytime TV presenter Lazarus Ironside performs an important public service exposing the scumbags who choose to torment and humilate their poor, stupid, fame-hungry families in front of a baying mob.
All good satirical fun on the Jeremy Kyle school of broadcasting, with the band going in for cross-dressing in a big way and Lazarus played by Joerg Stadler - "Steamboat Willie" in Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan - to a pop-emo soundtrack.
"We shot on both Red and old Beta SP cameras from the studio, which caused us a few problems in post - sorry Vid/Aubrey/Cath - but it gave us a real live/trashy TV show feel," says Shane. "The band really wanted to dress up and play all the characters in the video and took to dragging up in true Priscilla style.
"They also absolutely loved smashing up the studio - probably considerably more than we loved cleaning it up at midnight."

In his fourth video for Geordie rapper Dap-C - his other videos include one for <a href="http://www.daveyinc.com/directors/shane-davey/smile/">Smile</a> - Shane Davey brings together two of the towering issues of 2008 - urban youth violence and the credit crunch - in one effective narrative.
Even though this was clearly done on a shoestring, it tells a believable story of cause and effect. And you get the bigger picture here too: finding a way out of the 'hood is getting tougher all the time.

As it's actually not pouring with rain as I write this, it's a reasonably suitable moment to present The Draytones' video for Summer's Arrived. Well, summer isn't actually over yet, is it
Shane Davey followed these modern Mods on their recent tour, shooting on various formats - DV, Super8, 16mm, even stills - to capture that fragmented touring experience.
And the timeless excitement of Blackpool.

Shane has also directed this narrative video for Zender, shot around London in the style of the Nouvelle Vague about a girl struggling to engage with the world.
It's inspired by H.G. Welles' The Door In The Wall.

The idea involved an act of escapology - in fact, dropping the straitjacket-wearing lead singer of Finnish band Sunrise Ave from the dome of Islington's Union Chapel onto a bed of 6 inch nails. 
Not surprisingly Shane Davey engaged professional help: a stunt rigger and stunt coordinator who have both worked on Bond movies, Doctor Who and Harry Potter. And a stunt double.
