Tanu Muino directs a bold, innovative promo for Lil Nas X that has courted a whole heap of controversy - and not entirely for the reasons it intended.&nbsp;The video for Montero (Call Me By Your Name) is a&nbsp;tour de force&nbsp;of 3D art, larger than life set pieces and a truly mesmerising performance,&nbsp;and is presented with an important message of freedom from the trailblazing artist.With it's huge CGI build and characterisation of Lil Nas in a number of roles, Muino has created an extraordinary fantasy world to showcase the artist's unapologetic attitude, with Paris-based Mathematic doing the heavy-lifting in terms of&nbsp;VFX work.Nas starts on a journey, where he encounters various version of himself. Ultimately he&nbsp;descends from the heavens&nbsp;straight into Satan's lap, where he gives a&nbsp;sultry lapdance, all the while celebrating and embracing who he is - and blocking out the naysayers and haters.The unintended controversy comes with the sequence of Nas's descent on a pole to Satan's lair, and its similarities to elements of FKA Twigs' Cellophane video by Andrew Thomas Huang. After a series of <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/news/2021/03/30/andrew-thomas-huang-cries-foul-over-lil-nas-xs-montero-video/70167" target="_blank">anguished posts on social media by Huang</a>, Lil Nas X has now acknowledged the close similarity of the sequences in the two videos, in&nbsp;<a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CNEAOPCFaHb/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link" target="_blank">an Instagram post</a> on March 30th, in which he describes Cellophane as a "masterpiece."&nbsp;i want to show love to&nbsp;@fkatwigs&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;@andrewthomashuang&nbsp;! the “cellophane” visual is a masterpiece.i want to say thank u to twigs for calling me and informing me about the similarities between the two videos, as i was not aware they were so close. was only excited for the video to come out. i understand how hard you worked to bring this visual to life. you deserve so much more love and praise.

LAMAR+NIK&nbsp;bring the sweet, soulful performances of Leon Bridges and Lucky Daye together in a characteristically creative, DIY&nbsp;fashion.The video for All About You was&nbsp;made using a stop-motion technique known as Stratastencil - the process of multiple frames being hung in a row, resulting in a trailing, tunnel-like effect.After the artists were filmed separately, in Los Angeles and Texas, all&nbsp;4,500 frames of video were printed, hand-cut, and photographed frame-by-frame to achieve the tunnel effect seen throughout the video. 645AR and FKA Twigs enjoy a little online chat in Aidan Zamiri's ridiculously sexy video for the high pitched&nbsp;collab Sum Bout U.Prepared to get a little hot under the collar as Twigs plays an 'onlycamzzz' girl with a stunning range of camgirl-wear. And even more disconcertingly, breaks into a cute smile.&nbsp;Matthew Josephs, Twigs' regular stylist, pulled together the fantastic looks in true magpie fashion when the world was just emerging from&nbsp;lockdown - as <a href="https://theface.com/style/fka-twigs-fashion-stylist-matthew-josephs-645ar-sum-bout-u" target="_blank">he explained to&nbsp;The Face</a>.Then Zamiri framed the encounter&nbsp;- Twigs was shot in London, and 645AR filmed in the US - in a computer interface he designed with Weir Prior, that you will appreciate once you stop gawping at Twigs. Which is going to take a while.

But then he befriends a creature from another dimension - who becomes an increasingly annoying alien companion-cum-pet. It is a scenario which allows Kyle Wightman&nbsp;and Alex Lee (aka BRTHR)&nbsp;to do what they do best: assault the senses with a barrage of distinctive and singular digital VFX.Assuming they managed to abide by social distancing rules, it's clear that lockdown conditions&nbsp;has provided BRTHR with a strange kind of freedom to express themselves in their use of post production. As a result, this is an absolute belter.

Much fun ensues in this hugely entertaining video directed by Calmatic, produced at Prettybird, and including numerous cameos, including Chris Rock and Vince Staples.&nbsp;The VFX work was achieved at Electric Theatre Collective&#39;s LA studio, and graded by British colourist Jason Wallis.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

The director&nbsp;and his Twilight Zone-style short story&nbsp;wisely makes the most of&nbsp;the quality&nbsp;of its star performers. As a result it will stays in the memory.&nbsp;

Jodeb&#39;s superb video for Jack White&#39;s track Corporation is a mesmerising&nbsp;narrative piece, ostensibly a whodunnit-style murder mystery - with Jack as the victim. But then it becomes something even more mysterious. And by the end, it&nbsp;just leaves you with lots more questions.While the detective on the murder case (played by Zooey Deschanel, cast very much against type) interviews the various suspects of the investigation, Jodeb throws out&nbsp;their riveting, strange,&nbsp;and often grimly violent backstories. The whole murder mystery premise develops into something&nbsp;increasingly complicated, metaphorical and supernatural, driven by these fascinating characters and the fast-moving action.&nbsp;As the song builds to its climax so too does the narrative. In&nbsp;a boardroom, Deschanel joins all the suspects&nbsp;- with the victim.Jodeb leaves it to the viewer to decipher the meaning, if not the actual mystery of the crime. It&#39;s surreal, symbolic, thought-provoking, and it&#39;s brilliantly done.

The second of Natalie Rae&#39;s new videos for Leon Bridges has the soul singer visiting a series of ordinary folk in their home, like a silent witness to their daily trials and tribulations. But he also seems to be searching for something.The song Bet Ain&#39;t Worth The Hand&nbsp;is based on Bridges&rsquo; experiences of growing up and having trouble standing on solid ground. Regarding the video, Rae has said: &ldquo;People may think that he&rsquo;s searching for something physical, but what he&rsquo;s actually looking for is the last time he felt a human connection to someone.&rdquo;The film&rsquo;s grading by MPC&rsquo;s Ricky Gausis accentuates this emotional sentiment. &ldquo;In the beginning shot, Leon elevates into his own mind and encounters all of these different heart-breaking scenarios,&quot; Gausis explains. &quot;We wanted something more stylized for this first shot and more natural for the remaining shots, to disconnect the two worlds and to emphasize the transition.&quot;&nbsp;

The first of two videos for Leon Bridges directed by Natalie Rae, creative directed by Miles Jay and shot by Steve Annis, Bad Bad News&#39; stars model-of-the-moment Paloma Elsesser, who is catcalled by a stranger on her way home, and is determined to strike back.Elsesser decides to follow and confront the stranger, busting out some dance moves along the way, her story unfolding on the streets of New York. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the city, Leon Bridges performs&nbsp;Bad Bad News with his band in a rehearsal space.Rae&#39;s concept for the video wass based on Bridges&rsquo; lyrics for Bad Bad News. &ldquo;I wanted to complement and bring to life his ideas,&quot; she says. &quot;In this case we showed how Paloma&rsquo;s story, being catcalled and rising up against the harassment would work well for the song&rsquo;s message. Women are really turning bad news into something good. Leon loved the idea of propelling the momentum of this movement.&rdquo;Steve Annis&#39;s photography was graded by Ricky Gausis at MPC in LA.&nbsp;&ldquo;The shots captured reality in a beautiful, raw way which allowed Paloma and Leon to dance freely and really be in the moment,&quot; says Rae. &quot;Ricky&rsquo;s grading heightened the shots - the red of Paloma&rsquo;s trench coat was enhanced to make it even more vivid and beautiful; the underpass was made even darker and grittier.&rdquo;Gausis says he was keen to enhance the simplicity of the shots. &ldquo;I wanted to make it so that the images looked like they&rsquo;d been loved, but nothing too crazy or heavy. I also wanted to enhance the grainy and dirty element of the locations, for example, accentuating the starkness of the underpass.&rdquo;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jack White is repeatedly transposed into what appears to be the same room, that nonetheless transforms stylistically with each dizzying camera jerk.Us, the directing duo consisting of Christopher Barrett and Luke Taylor, have created a brilliant conceptual art piece for White&#39;s Over and Over and Over (from the new album Boarding House Reach), where the same space and same camera move is given infinite variety through an ever-changing cast of extras, different colours and props, and the accelerating speed of each move.All this reflects a track that moves from traditional Jack White territory into somewhere far more experimental.
