Sophia + Robert bring their trademark hallucinatory style to Livin - their second collaboration with Jetta.&nbsp;Trapped in an industrial underground world, Jetta and a group of gothic dancers explore their confines as they&nbsp;cycle through a series of colour-saturated&nbsp;vignettes. Mixing high fashion and elements of grunge and punk, the styling is striking and perfectly suited to this environment.&nbsp;The use of saturated coloured lighting creates an unnerving yet strangely beautiful 'sped-up' aesthetic, echoing early videos by Marilyn Manson (by Floria Sigismondi) and Linkin Park,&nbsp;with excellent cinematography by Franklin Dow. Sophia + Robert have found a way to reference&nbsp;videos of this era without picking the obvious inspirations, paying homage to unusual work on the fringes of art and commercialism, whilst creating their very own type of pop video.The duo thrive on the border of beauty and surrealism, and this project is a brave and&nbsp;exciting addition to their videography.&nbsp;

KC Locke&nbsp;pulls out all the stops&nbsp;for Mist in this high octane video for Savage.&nbsp;&nbsp;At a gritty nondescript airfield, a flurry of drifting cars, quad bikes and motorbikes roar towards the camera, while&nbsp;Mist&nbsp;hangs&nbsp;out of the passenger side window and performs. These are the cinematic-style shots the director is&nbsp;known for, and there are dozens of such moments packed within the short visual.Working with DP Sam Meyer, Locke deployed various cinematography techniques including new tech FPV race drones, Russian arm and 4x4 buggy cams to capture the high-stakes energy of the concept. It's another landmark piece in the director's phenomenal breakthrough year.

Etta Bond has sensual skin-on-skin contact&nbsp;in Die In Your Arms.Shot from above, the beautifully hazy visuals depict Bond performing the laidback banger, whilst being caressed by a variety of disembodied hands. Soaked in a sunset-gold&nbsp;light, the intimate video is soft and luscious, with a stunning performance from the artist.&nbsp;The closeups of intertwined bodies moving to the beat lends an almost surreal vibe to the concept, whilst featured artist Kaleem Taylor's performance section also edges on the darker side of fantasy. Great work from the team, who elevate a simple concept into an engaging and bittersweet fantasy.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sophia + Robert's epic six-part series for Askjell culminates in a whirlwind romance in Half Empty But Happy.&nbsp;Starting where we left off in <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/10/31/askjell-first-goodbye-sophia-robert/61609" target="_blank">The First Goodbye</a>, female lead Tin thrashes in the pool, captured in lo-fi underwater shots, before we see her in an apartment, being filmed by her love interest. Her wings are gone, perhaps suggesting that she isn't in such a rush to get away. She has found love, and everything in the first minute or so leads us to believe that this is an equal and complete romance.&nbsp;Through unusual, wide-angle shots, we see various displays of affection and the couple clowning around in different costumes, having the time of their life. As the story progresses, however, cracks start to appear. As Tin revisits the beach, she starts to obsess over the rocks, the location, the air. The male character walks into the pool where we last saw Tin, and starts to shiver erratically as he smokes a cigarette. He isn't accustomed to this life, and the cracks are starting to show.&nbsp;Slumped outside on a graffiti-covered wall, the couple's faces are stained with&nbsp;makeup around their eyes and face, a huge contrast to their natural and bare beauty at the beginning. Experimenting with different colours, different costumes and different personalities, the pair can't seem to make things fit.&nbsp;The ending depicts them both with their heads in the air, breathing deeply as a light burns white onto the screen. We aren't given a tight ending in a neat package, it's very much open to interpretation, which is the beauty of the Sophia + Robert's&nbsp;work. A&nbsp;stunning way&nbsp;to complete an ambitious project.&nbsp;

Belatedly arriving on Promonews after its win in the Best Dance Video Newcomer award at last month's UKMVAs, comes Spanish director Alex Gargot's highly imaginative gothic horror for Cora Novoa.Gargot's impressively-mounted video explores life and death in a surreal and nightmarish vision, as a&nbsp;grief-stricken mother&nbsp;battles&nbsp; overwhelming sadness after the loss of her son - and&nbsp;then the terrifying possibility of his continued presence after death.&nbsp;Rather than following a&nbsp;traditional narrative structure, the scenes are sporadic, exploring different moments in the Mother's tragic breakdown, and jumping backwards and forwards to get a sense of perspective, and to piece the puzzle together.&nbsp;The use of&nbsp;pulsating lighting to generate tension and atmosphere, is also highly effective, and&nbsp;Thais Català's composition and camerawork creates an unsettling yet contemporary world for this story to inhabit. It's creepy but great fun at the same time. Here's a director who is definitely one to watch out for.

In the fourth video collaboration from Askjell's EP, Sophia + Robert continue their twisted avant-garde fantasy.&nbsp;In the opening, we see a girl with wings slumped on the floor by a&nbsp;pool. Her mind is elsewhere, as she stares right past the camera towards the sky. The narrative is very much a mystery-&nbsp;we are given short flashbacks of a time where the girl was in the water, thrashing around joyously, without the new additions on her back. But this isn't a narrative in the traditional sense, it very much veers&nbsp;into experimental territory, and viewers are not given many clues.&nbsp;The wings immediately conjure up religious or spiritual themes, such as a fallen angel or a dead girl who is revisiting the place she died. But just as easily, we could attribute this to her being an alien or a different kind of creature altogether. Sophia + Robert thrive with concepts that keep viewers on their toes and guessing, and this video is very much in the same vein.&nbsp;Beautifully cold and crisp, the muted colour palettes complement the stark minimalism of the piece, and a top-notch performance from actress Tin makes this a&nbsp;wonderfully offbeat and effective promo.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Together with the video the Ed Sheeran collab <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/08/28/ed-sheeran-ft-stormzy-jaykae-aitch-take-me-back-london-sir-spyro-remix-kc-locke/60472" target="_blank">Take Me Back To London</a>, KC Locke has directed a very different visual for Stormzy's latest solo offering.This is a stripped-back performance video - starting with Stormzy walking into a studio to a sample of the eponymous Wiley, before breaking into the fast and furious Wiley Flow, supported by his buddies.&nbsp;It's a well-crafted one-take piece, which uses choreography cues and lighting triggers to deliver a high energy performance - and of course, Stormzy’s high-calibre charismatic personality and energy.And if the intention was to bring&nbsp;the big man back to the raw&nbsp;street vibe of his early videos, following the spectacular Scholfield-directed blockbusters&nbsp;for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/04/29/stormzy-vossi-bop-henry-scholfield/58451" target="_blank">Vossi Bop</a> and <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2019/09/10/stormzy-sounds-skeng-henry-scholfield/60674" target="_blank">Sounds Of The Skeng</a>,&nbsp;then this really does the job.

Jetta rocks around London in this fashion-centric video by Sophia+Robert.Inspired by haute couture fashion photography of the 80s, the concept features Jetta performing in several studio and location based setups,&nbsp;whilst&nbsp;rocking pieces by Thierry Mugler and Vivienne Westwood. All the while carrying a huge musical note throughout London.The architectural qualities of the wardrobe pieces are matched with art direction full of sharp lines, contours and high contrast. The black and white grade throughout the majority of the video helps cement the 80s feel, and the frenetic editing, full of fast zooms, quickfire cutting and intermittent 16mm film artefacts carries a DIY/experimental aesthetic that really helps tie the concept together.&nbsp;
