The biggest artist on the planet is also no slouch when it comes to directing her own videos, as this very ambitious and stylish video proves - featuring Post Malone, and released within hours of the surprise release of Taylor Swift's new album Tortured Poets Department.&nbsp;The video pays homage to various&nbsp;film aesthetics going back a century, evoking early silent films and Tiim Burton's Gothic style - and it was shot by DoP Rodrigo Prieto,&nbsp;Oscar-nominated this year for his work on Killers Of The Flower Moon.&nbsp;It's all black and white (nearly) but it's also a Taylor Swift video through and through, complete with out of this world visuals and intimate, yet scene-stealing performances.&nbsp;Weaving a beautiful narrative between a woman locked in a surreal, asylum-like building, and the man of her dreams who fights to save her (Malone), with brief cameos from Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles (from Dead Poets Society), the video is a feat, spanning several set builds and a range of standout styling moments.&nbsp;The opening two&nbsp;scenes in particular&nbsp;are an absolute knockout.Taylor does it again...&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp;

The Smile give a private performance to the most challenging of audiences, in Paul Thomas Anderson's charming promo for Friend Of A Friend: a class of nursery school-aged children.&nbsp;It's a brave feat, giving a surprise performance to some of the most brutal critics on Earth, who have yet to develop the social skills to hide their true feelings. In this respect, Anderson's latest video for The Smile is a wonderful experiment.The band - Thom Yorke, Johnny Greenwood and Tom Skinnner -&nbsp;get on with the job of performing a song which may be the their finest achievement to date. They set up shop in the school hall whilst the kids file in to the benches and then spectate, giving unfiltered reactions that range from apathetic to awestruck (usually when the lightshow begins).&nbsp;It's a wonderful visual, meditating on the relationship between musicians and their audience, and builds to a poignant, engaged finale, which will warm up even the coldest of hearts. Andrew Thomas Huang returns to music videos with a beautifully crafted promo and a thrilling shift in visual style for multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer and vocalist&nbsp;Alexandra Drewchin - aka Eartheater.&nbsp;Boasting a late 90's aesthetic, with the sensibility of cosmetics and fragrance&nbsp;commercials of the period, the&nbsp; visual for Crushing sees the artist explore a decadent mirrored room, interspersed with unique performance vignettes. Snapshots of a narrative - which involve the artist form glassware, drink from it and then shatter it with her voice - adds to the considerably alluring atmosphere.&nbsp;&nbsp;Huang captures&nbsp;the laidback, transcendent feel of the track, and with the camera constantly moving, never quite revealing a single portrait of Eartheater until late in the piece, the video maintains its sense of&nbsp;mystery and excitement throughout.&nbsp;Video screens of HD footage of Eartheater, video frames&nbsp;within frames, and terrific&nbsp;stylised cinematography by Laura Merians Goncalves eightens this feeling of&nbsp;otherworldliness.It's visually breathtaking, as one would expect from this masterful director, but also a real departure from his previous work. Aidan Zamiri's second video for Tiberius b takes their vibrant persona to the streets, with the Welsh singer-songwriter demonstrating a decidedly unique method of transportation.&nbsp;Following the eye-catching&nbsp;<a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2023/04/28/tiberius-b-jetski-aidan-zamiri/81310">Jetski video</a>, where their energetic display was interrupted by a flock of pigeons inside their flat, this one has the artist on London's late night streets, performing HHB under the golden haze of streetlights and distant fluorescents.[imgtoken data:1]Until stopping to relieve themselves. And then after peering into the resulting yellow puddle, Tiberius b takes&nbsp;a dive... emerging into a public fountain.This iconoclastic device allows Zamiri&nbsp;moves the action from one vignette to the next. Róisín Murphy self-directs the beautiful promo for Fader,&nbsp;set against the backdrop of Murphy’s hometown of Arklow, County Wicklow.In the video, we see a street parade pass&nbsp;through the town, with&nbsp;Irish dancers, majorettes, Girl Guides, Boy Scouts and a brass band in tow. And Roisin herself joins the parade, weaving between the participants, perfomring the song.Shot in striking black and white, the video has a&nbsp;nostalgic feel, and given the full-circle nature of the filming location,&nbsp;fits in perfectly with the concept.&nbsp;This is a true celebration of people and place. You can see the radiant joy in every frame, and given Murphy's full creative direction of the piece, can tell just how how much of a personal achievement the final video is to her.And as she explains, the parade was all her own doing.[imgtoken data:1]"This idea came to me partly in reaction to making such surreal and ‘other’ imagery for the album artwork, and partly in response to the track itself," she has explained. "I felt I needed a totally authentic space in which to perform Fader. The song is about life and death and music - and so I went home to where it all started for me.&nbsp;"Just as in the music there’s a huge HipHop influence on the video, and for me to have the sheer front for that, it needed to ring true. And so my home town, Arklow was in fact, the only option."It was a huge task to take on, connecting with local government councillors because we had to close the road and then, with local groups of all kinds, musicians, dancers, scouts, majorettes, farmers, fishermen etc and much of my family..."Doing something like this is a massive responsibility and it threatened to overwhelm me at times. But on the day we had Hollywood sunshine and just an incredible sense of goodwill. The people of Arklow made me so proud. It truly turned out to be one of best days of life.”And arguably one of the best videos of her illustrious career...&nbsp;

Aidan Zamiri coaxes a mesmerising&nbsp;rock 'n roll performance from London-based Welsh singer-songwriter Tiberius b&nbsp;in the&nbsp;video for Jetski... featuring pigeons.&nbsp;In&nbsp;a barely furnished&nbsp;apartment, Tiberius b recounts the lyrical journey of meeting someone at a party&nbsp;and the chaos&nbsp;that ensues, in a unabashed display of raw power and sexuality. From them lying on the bare wood floor to writhing on the sofa,&nbsp;Zamiri's fluid camera captures their antics, then introduces the presence of their band, adding to the sense of dangerous immediacy.Then things get really messy, as a pigeon appears in the ruckus, followed by another and then a whole flock, doing what pigeons do...&nbsp;&nbsp;a surreal moment to underline the emotion. <h3>A legal drama involving feuding rock legends? We all want to watch that. Well, Aidan Zamiri got in there first, before the streaming giants or anyone else. We asked him how he did it.</h3>It's one of the most interesting, enjoyably witty and cameo-filled music videos of the year so far, for one of the finest British alt-rock bands right now. Aidan Zamiri's video for English duo Jockstrap's Greatest Hits is a super-hip satire about&nbsp;a 'trial of the century' featuring the legal wrangles of two ageing rock stars,&nbsp;with a gallery of fascinating characters captured in the glare of wall-to-wall TV coverage.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We recently talked to Aidan about the video, and discovered the project emerged from the mind of bandmember Georgia Ellery, and found its way to the screen courtesy of proper legal advice - and a willing cast of dozens, including a few of the band's and Aidan's friends...[vidtoken data:0]<blockquote>It’s loosely based on an imagined future where Georgia and Taylor become nightmarish rock legends.</blockquote>How did the project start? Were you familiar with Jockstrap before hearing Greatest Hits? How much was this a collaboration with the band?I’ve been a massive fan of the band for a while - their music feels so refreshing. We’d met briefly in the past and Georgia had also worn a couple outfits made by my girlfriend Paolina Russo for her stage costumes. When they reached out, I was really excited to work on this with them.The project was really collaborative from the jump - the band approached me with the idea of doing an absurd TV trial. Together we developed it and had massive help from Jean Lee who plays the judge in the video. She’s a real life barrister and helped us make sure that everything we were doing was (loosely) accurate in a real-world court setting.Tell us more about the band's original idea of the TV trial...Georgia had written an amazing storyline for the video which laid out a lot of the plan ahead of time. It’s loosely based on an imagined future where Georgia and Taylor from the band become nightmarish rock legends.The thing that felt really interesting about the setting of a court trial is the idea of spectacle. From the high-profile legal battles that we’ve seen in media, these cases are less about the truth and justice and more about PR and popularity. For us, that became a really interesting idea to play on.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]<blockquote>Everything we were doing was largely accurate in a real-world court setting.</blockquote>And when did you come up with the terrific method to tell the story? Did that come with the High Court battle idea, or later (or before)? What were your main references?We were aiming for absurd characters within a realistic setting. There’s a lot of reference to Court TV and legal YouTube channels and paparazzi videos. This sense of ‘reality’ helped give a lot of context to what we were doing without us having to explain too much.Also, as we’re used to seeing imagery like this in real life, it meant that we could push the edit quite far and make it feel pretty stylistic as the video progresses.&nbsp;Talking of characters, how did you cast your main protagonists, Princess Julia and Joe Foley?Funnily enough I’ve known princess julia since I was around 19 or 20, but this was the first thing we’d ever filmed together.A lot of the casting came from friends and fans of the band. Julia and John were pretty much confirmed when Georgia wrote the initial storyline - it was always gonna be them. We’ve also got a lot of fun cameos throughout the video giving witness testimonies or legal advice.[imgtoken data:2]<blockquote>High-profile legal battles we’ve seen in the media are [often] less about truth and justice and more about PR and popularity.</blockquote>As I mentioned, Jean the judge is a real barrister - and so was Nick who played Julia’s barrister. There’s a fair few music industry legends that some people might spot. These characters really added to the ‘reality’ of it all.&nbsp;When and where did you shoot the video?We shot the video in Bethnal Green Town Hall - an old town hall that’s been turned into a hotel, but they’ve kept a lot for he original fixtures and rooms from the before it was renovated.We shot the video around mid-October 2022 and thankfully we managed to squeeze in some extra shooting time with John and Julia in order to film their nefarious 'evidence'&nbsp;which was to be used against them in court.Did this feel like a departure from things you’ve done before? Or a natural step on from being ultra-resourceful with your series of videos for Fka Twigs' Caprisongs, etc.?This felt somewhat new as it was a lot more narrative-driven than some of the more performance-based videos I’ve done in the past.That being said, we’ve got a team that I’ve had the pleasure of working with a lot over the past year or so. Lucy Sandler directs an emotional one-take promo for LA-based indie pop duo Ill Peach.&nbsp;It's strikingly simple in concept - a one-take, upside down shot&nbsp;of vocalist&nbsp;Jess Corazza hanging off of a sofa - but breathtakingly&nbsp;executed.&nbsp;With a million emotions contained in her tearful composure, Corazza's performance is the sole focus&nbsp;of the video, and it's impossible to take your eyes off of her.To contain this performance within such a limited - yet beautiful - idea is a stroke of genius, and Sandler does a top-notch job at creating not just a video, but a piece of art.&nbsp;

And the portrait by the courtroom artist bursts into full&nbsp;animation.With an unfeasibly large cast of characters and cameos - including Don Letts as a witness and Jamie xx on a legal team - this is&nbsp;a satire on fame and media frenzy that&nbsp;hits the mark without ever losing&nbsp;its sense of fun or cool.In fact, in our judgement, it's supercool.&nbsp;&nbsp;
