Rex Orange County becomes the on-screen narrator of a confessional episode in Nick Walker’s very literal yet sharply executed&nbsp;video for Alexander.Staying entirely true to the autobiographical story structure of the song, Walker recreates the uncomfortable yet revealing encounter between the artist and his doctor in an elevated dramatic scenario.Following a long (very Randy Newman-ish) instrumental intro, and flourishes of VFX - including bullet-time tracking shots through a chaotic medical waiting room - Rex performs the song to camera, more or less, during an exchange with a medical professional who is telling him things he does not really want to hear.Walker points out that the song is relatable, and even with the elements in the video that are heightened, including strong cinematography from DoP Adam Singodia,&nbsp;“it still feels like a scene of your own life played out in your head.” And at its core, it’s the winning performance of Rex and his elder medical adversary, played by Tim Webster, that makes it work."I think we paired the visuals to the song really well," adds Walker. "We’ve all been in that head space where it almost feels like the thing we can only entertain is our own pain and everything feels like a blur. Deadhorses direct a dazzling promo for Finnish-born, multi-lingual&nbsp;singer Joalin, with a hyperactive aesthetic&nbsp;achieved through quickfire edits, innovative camera techniques and textural overlays.Shooting in famous London locations like The Barbican and Southbank, the video for Without You is a colourful and kinetic visual feast that showcases Joalin's dynamic style in a fresh and fun way.&nbsp;"For this ultra-catchy, rap-reggaeton hybrid we wanted to make an iconic video that matches the song's energy and showcases Joalin’s trilingualism and immense talents as a street dancer," say Deadhorses."Cinematically, our visual approach was taken from 70s US Indie and 90s Hong Kong cinema, especially their use of long zoom lenses and wide angle lenses. We love the hard impact and visual flair that you get when juxtaposing extreme wides and ultra close-ups."The arcade and fish tank scenes in particular were so much fun to film, the camera had to be literally inches from Joalin’s face, we also managed to get a bit of lip-sync performances from one of the fish featured in the tanks which was a highlight for sure![imgtoken data:1]"We were so grateful to be working with the daring DoP Jed Darlington-Roberts again (always a dream) who smashed it out of the park mixing up a bizarre array of old school and cutting edge techniques such as smearing vaseline on the lens and attaching 360 camera to the inside of the arcade games so that we spin in real time."Another big visual novelty was getting Hank Zoid on board who has a truly unique 16-camera rig that captures 3D bullet-time video maps and interspersed the 16-images into a single slow-mo image you can navigate through. This was the first time this technology was used for a music video and we think it really makes the arcade scenes standout, bringing a breath of fresh air to proceedings.."We had never worked with Joalin before, but it was a dream! We found her infectiously upbeat and energetic from the first call we had with her. It was great how involved in the filmmaking process, styling and design she was, clearly driven to make a standout video, even if it involves being in a bathtub on Southbank at dusk with a hundred tourists taking pictures of you."Getting permits in three days with a limited budget for such prized locations was by no means an easy feat, so, a massive shout out is due to our amazing production team especially our brilliant producer Ash and Liam from Blend films who put in the graft, working night and day at the point the project was greenlit to pull rabbits out of hats and materialise our crackpot ideas."

Directing duo Waxxwork direct an atmospheric promo to herald the return of London Grammar - and the band's new drum &amp; bass direction - which explores the internal states of a individuals at a houseparty, through an unusual device.&nbsp;The video for London Grammar's House takes place with the party at its height, and in dreamlike fashion, follows a house fly who moves&nbsp;from room to room, introducing us to the different partygoers.Counter-intuitively to what you might expect in this scenario&nbsp;the video is all about moments of reflection.&nbsp;There is a&nbsp;focus on calm, almost transcendent moments which creates a sense of mystery, interspersed with frantic POV shots to ramp up the energy intermittently.&nbsp;Waxxwork - Timothy Casten and Vikesh Govind - combine great use of cinematography and dizzying display of VFX work to establish this atmosphere, very much in the style they have established in their previous work.&nbsp;"We wanted to use the fly as a catalyst and vehicle for our characters to meditate on their place in the world, and the beauty of the present moment," say Waxxwork.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kasabian fall to Earth from 15,000 feet in an adrenalin-fuelled thrill-ride&nbsp;by director duo Waxxwork.The video for Call captures the performance of Kasabian frontman Sergio Pizzorno, beaming out from the screen of an iPhone as it plunges to the ground, after it was dropped from a airborne helicopter.Sky-divers jumped from the 'copter&nbsp;in Albanian airspace (where aerospace laws would allow it) with a pre-edited&nbsp; video of Pizzorno's performance playing in real time on the device - having begun the 'call' on the phone moments before their leap. The effect is suitably intense.[imgtoken data:1]Directed by filmmaking duo Waxxwork (Timothy Casten and Vikesh Govind), the music video’s surreal chaos is matched by the film’s grade&nbsp;by Studio RM’s Myles Bevan - his third collaboration with the directors and first since the UKMVA-nominated video for London Grammar and Camelphat’s song Higher last year. Future Islands follow the launch of their new album People Who Aren't There Anymore with a marvellous music video for The Thief directed by Ivana Bobic: a celebration of the process of creating a contemporary dance piece.Filmed at Sadlers Wells in London and featuring choreographer/dancer Ted Rogers and dancers&nbsp;Akti-Magdalini Konstantinou,&nbsp;Maren Fidje Bjørneseth and&nbsp;Anna Engerström, the film investigates the painstaking and enchanting journey from first steps of developing the choreography to increasingly intense&nbsp;rehearsal to actual show.&nbsp;It is an utterly inspirational viewing experience, particularly as&nbsp;Ivana Bobic binds the visuals and the track together by completely integrating the different phases of the creative process. Editor Geri Docherty&nbsp;matchcuts from Rogers' and the other dancers' rehearsals to the actual performance and the effect is euphoric.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;As she explains, Bobic's creative starting point was the&nbsp;People Who Aren't There Anymore album cover, and she was given inspirational brief notes from the band.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]"This was an amazing opportunity to make a dance dance video and lean into my love of movement and performance," she says. "The Thief is my favourite kind of pop track – the minor chord unrequited love song. It sounds epic and celebratory, but the lyrics are about loneliness and desire and that bittersweet tone is an interesting ambiguity to explore.&nbsp;"My idea was about breathing life into the album artwork – imagining it in motion and then making those characters flesh and blood.&nbsp;The band’s references were a total dream: avant-garde choreographer Martha Graham and the modernist sets of Isamu Noguchi. It really elevated the project to have such unashamedly nerdy, chic inspiration."There was also a lot of trust and understanding working with the band, management and everyone at 4AD and I’m really grateful for their support. And of course, as always, a lot of love and patience from Riff Raff. It’s the key to making exciting films.[imgtoken data:2]&nbsp;<blockquote>We cast dancers who have experienced life and aren’t afraid to express it on screen.&nbsp;</blockquote>"I worked with choreographer Ted Rogers, my prolific ally and collaborator, to create very specific movements around the breath – the foundation of Graham’s work. For her everything was about contraction and release. So we based the choreography on this contrast."Balletic control and precision look so graceful but are incredibly gruelling on the body. So as the track goes on, we wanted to dismantle the perfection, pushing the dancers to extremes. We watch them unravel and free themselves. It’s as if the music changes them. We’re big believers in casting dancers who have experienced life and aren’t afraid to express it on screen.&nbsp;"I also wanted to convey the dancer’s off-screen moments: sweaty rehearsals, nerves and process. We see the transition from off-stage to performance&nbsp; – like we’re in Birdman or Cassavetes’ Opening Night.&nbsp;"A big part of visualising the album cover was the costumes. I worked with knitwear designer Céline Bouaziz (JW Anderson, Gucci) to create this moment – experimenting with fabric construction to make the loose, connected garment. It was a fun human puzzle to work out!&nbsp;[imgtoken data:3]&nbsp;"I wanted to shoot in Sadlers Wells and wouldn’t take no for an answer – it’s the home of contemporary dance in the UK and felt really significant. It made the whole film feel like a celebration of craft.&nbsp;"On this film I got to work with the amazing cinematographer Nanu Segal again – she is so intuitive with movement and narrative."It really came to life in the edit with Geri Docherty, seamlessly knitting together the on and off screen moments of performance to make something really captivating. Working with dance can be really intricate in the edit, so we put a lot of love into articulating the moves and making it shine."&nbsp;

Revenge is sweet, especially with Florence Pugh standing by your side, in Jacob Erland's latest collaboration with Rachel Chinouriri.The video for Never Need Me is&nbsp;a satisfying&nbsp;tale of a cheating boyfriend who gets his just desserts - or in this case, a cake in his&nbsp;face - at a party in front of all their mutual friends.&nbsp;The concept&nbsp;is elevated and taken to cake-smashing heights in Erland's glossy visual, which meditates on relationships, friendship and new beginnings.[imgtoken data:1]And, of course, by the unexpected movie star presence of Florence Pugh, who plays Rachel's best friend. Having heard the song and reached out to the singer directly on Instagram, Pugh made this casting coup possible, and then plays a supporting role in the video in more ways than one.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:2]She is the best girlfriend who helps her lovelorn&nbsp;pal&nbsp;after a traumatic incident - revealed in full towards the end. Her&nbsp;appearance, and her chainmail party&nbsp;dress, is attracting tabloid attention -&nbsp;but Florence&nbsp;is not the star of the show, and she withdraws from Rachel's spotlight at crucial moments.&nbsp;The result is a thoroughly enjoyable and great looking video - excellent work from DoP Jake Hunter and colourist Alex Gregory -&nbsp;and the latest in a growing number of impressive collaborations between Chinouriri and Erland.&nbsp;
