A wonderful mashup of choreography, costume and effects help to develop the concept into unexpectedly glittering realms as the video progresses.

Nexus Productions have catapulted their way into the world of VR with this looping and surrealist visual experience lead by director Eran Amir.The 360-degree clip for Chapita by Mind Enterprises uses dancer and choreographer Mimi Jeong over and over again - she seemingly replicated an infinite number of times as the song progresses, performing various small visual tasks that seem to loop impossibly. It&#39;s a clever and fun video that houses plenty of visual treats no matter where you look. And believe me, there are a lot of places to look.Whilst there&#39;s a hell of a lot going on, the video still retains a minimalist aesthetic - which is good because a) it looks great and b) it helps to make sense of the growing mass of Mimis as they spawn all over the place. I&#39;d urge you to watch this video on your VR headset or your phone rather than a computer so you can get the full 360 experience (although if you&#39;re anything like me&nbsp;you might find yourself dancing around your office whislt watching it, trying to take it all in).

Artist and filmmaker George Wu makes a rare return&nbsp;to music videos with a delightful video for Domino band New Build&#39;s Luminous Freedom, that combines a stately visual look in the style of&nbsp;the Dutch masters - created by Wu&nbsp;collaborating with still life photographer John Short &ndash; with an excellent comedic idea.And it&nbsp;also offers an enjoyable little mental test for the viewer: just combine the image with the subtitle to come up with a famous name. A video that definitely falls into the &#39;Has this been done before, and if not, why not?&#39; category.

Director and graphic artist Nicolas Ménard&#39;s debut music video is for up-and-coming electronic artist Tourist&#39;s Illuminate - featuring Olly Alexander of Years &amp; Years on vocals - which presents a story of confusion with a very distinctive and hypnotic&nbsp;graphic&nbsp;sensibility.&nbsp;It&#39;s a&nbsp;starkly black and white&nbsp;2D animation which the viewer experiences from the point of view of the main character, moving through different environments,&nbsp;we watch our protagonist open letter after letter, written in a language he cannot understand, to symbolise the chaotic communicative issues that follow a break-up. &nbsp;Inspired by Japanese graphic artists such as Yuichi Yokoyama and retro games X and 3D World Runner, this was drawn frame by frame, with Nicolas including edgy&nbsp;graphic characters that represent the artists, alternating the environments - parks, underwater scenes, art galleries -&nbsp;to the tempo, and gradually adding colour to heighten the power of the chorus.Tourist works with creative director Jake Robinson, who says: &quot;We reset Tourist&rsquo;s &lsquo;look&rsquo; in his previous single Wait by moving to simple black and white design and cinematography. With Illuminate we wanted to be bold, expressive and introduce colour into that world. We felt that Illuminate&rsquo;s vibrant feel naturally lent itself to animation. I&rsquo;ve been keen to work with Nicolas for a while. For his beautifully atmospheric promo to Bloc Party's Truth and with a brief to create 'a portrait of the band with no traditional performance involved', director Clemens Habicht places the band in a bleak English field, enveloped in a dense multi-coloured fog. 

Habicht - who lives and works between Paris and London - takes his cue from the heavy staccato'd guitar and applies a snappy start-stop stutter edit to add movement in a very effective way - a form of video scratching if you will.

Johanna Andersson's video for Nero's Reaching Out is a visual feast of yachts, bikinis, Porsches, helicopters and mile-high typography - everything you'd find in those extravagant title sequences of classic 1980s TV shows. 
With Reaching Out sampling the iconic Hall &amp; Oates hit Out of Touch, Johanna wanted to get that authentic 1980s 'yacht rock' look, so Corbis Motion were approached as a partner allowing Johanna to build a TV title sequence-style narrative around the incredible original 1980s stock footage exclusively from their archives - with just two clips of Nexus shot footage. 
"The idea was to reference TV title sequences from the 80's, like Miami Vice and Kojak, and by using authentic stock footage we tell the story of a young couple hustling all the way top," Johanna explains. "When we sent off the work in progress to Nero, the comments that kept coming back were 'more girls'. We didn't have any more footage of 80s girls in bikinis so we had to look around the office. And let me tell you, I saw a completely new side of our receptionist, Sarah..."

Recorded as part of the soundtrack to the short film Back To The Start (commissioned by restaurant chain Chipotle to raise awareness of the importance of developing a sustainable food system), country legend Willie Nelson's version of the Coldplay classic is subject to this excellent stop frame animation promo from Johnny Kelly. 
Described by Coldplay as "great cover, great film", all proceeds from the project go to The Chipotle Cultivate Foundation.

Joji Koyama aka Woof Wan Bau's first video in ages is for the first official single by the charismatic Barbara Panther - a combination of animation, live action and inspired model-making.
The singer's irrepressible performance is always central but Joji also employs a number of techniques to to evoke the lyrics, combining a mixture of epic-looking miniature models of classical figures and everyday objects, inventively cast from sugar, salt and baking powder in order to easily break down, suggesting the fragile nature of manmade empires. The models were shot to look lifesize, alongside plaster casts of lifesize limbs that were used to scrape graphic patterns on the floor.
"I started making music videos for friends, so these days the idea of making a video for someone I feel a sense of affinity to is quite important for me," says Joji. "With Barbara there was a slight coincidence that her record is produced by Matthew Herbert (who I've collaborated with) so even though I didn't know her it all felt quite close. 
"Usually I would avoid doing performance videos but Barbara is such an incredible performer that I wanted to try and keep the focus very much on her. We gathered a small team of friends and a super enthusiastic crew and had a really fun shoot. I think Barbara's enthusiasm rubbed off on everyone."

"I've always liked the cover design for 'Exile on Main St.' a lot," says Odell. "It is the most iconic of the Stones' album covers, and seeing that the track is one of several previously unreleased tracks from the 'Exile' sessions, it felt appropriate to use the graphic formula of that cover. The promo is a collage of stills and documentary footage from the period, so it's a bit like the album cover comes alive and tells the story of The Rolling Stones on tour."
Odell also shot some new footage inspired by some of the stills from the original album cover, giving a sense that even the burlesque performers of the original artwork have come alive.

The Hours’ Ali In The Jungle by Jonas Odell

Those funky St. Albans lads Friendly Fires are back with the funked-up Skeleton Boy, and a new video by Clemens Habicht, who recently created some splendid <a href="http://www.nexusproductions.com/938/clinic_montage.mov">live visuals for Clinic</a>.
Those visuals capture various strange objects, usually in motion, in a kind of cool portraiture - and one of the materials Clemens used in his Clinic film plays a major part in this video: tiny polystyrene balls.
Rather bravely, the band are performing wearing black suits with only their faces visible. The balls, in a wind-machine assisted ball-storm, then give them stick-man bodies, followed by, appropriately, full skeletons. They start looking like motion-capture characters, but it's all done in-camera.
"Taking out all the excess information and concentrating on their movement through this pseudo-motion control, meant we could focus on the performance dynamic of the band, especially lead singer Ed's great dance moves," says Clemens.
