Nelson De Castro directs a&nbsp;story of self-reflection for Waze &amp; Odyssey's Always, that toys with viewer's perceptions - and is not diminished by referencing the&nbsp;classic video for the original track.&nbsp;Utilising a seamless blend of practical and digital mirroring effects, the concept for De Castro's video for the remix of Always - written by Stevie Wonder in the '70s, covered by George Michael and Mary J Blige in the '90s - takes place in a diner, where De Castro playfully switches between different types of doubles. At first it's mirror FX, and then the mirror breaks down,&nbsp;interweaves and disconnect (literally) at cleverly timed moments.The beauty of the video lies in how the skill&nbsp;of the choroegraphy, and the&nbsp;cast - led by the Huber twins, Allison and Veronica&nbsp;- gently emerges.&nbsp;Eddie Inda's wonderful art direction helps hide the subtle transitions, creating brilliantly surreal copies of clocks, sprawling menus that overlap corners and intricate coffee stains.Combined with DoP Jeff Leeds Cohn's complex yet striking cinematography, De Castro has orchestrated&nbsp;one of his most successful videos - particularly in this director's cut. Here, he also includes excerpts from George Michael and Mary J Blige's own remarkable video for Always - by directing duo Big TV!"We designed, built and cast a perfectly mirrored world, down to the last drop of spilled coffee." he says. A lonely kid from a broken family in small-town America, discovers a miraculous gift, in&nbsp;Kimberly Stuckwisch and Nelson De Castro's innovative video&nbsp;for Broken Bells, the musical project of Danger Mouse and James Mercer of The Shins, and last year's one-off single, Good Luck.As he escapes from his home, young Ralph (Flynn Zanco), can see that some people are distinguished&nbsp;by a special quality: their bodies become composed of&nbsp;beams of light. These are the&nbsp;people who are ignored and seemingly invisible - just like him. As the boy himself begins to take the same form, the organic nature of the 'light people' becomes even more evident, and confirms that this was not achieved by conventional digital effects.[imgtoken data:1]In fact, Stuckwisch and De Castro have supplemented the rich filmic quality of DoP&nbsp;Andrew Droz Palermo's cinematography, via an extraordinary method. The 'light ray' effect of the figures&nbsp;was created by hand tracing and laser-cutting over 4000 frames onto black card stock to create shape mattes.&nbsp;"Then we physically shined light and haze through each individual frame to produce the stop motion effect, before laying it back over the footage," explain the directors. "It gives it an old school animation feel, all done practically."&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The painstaking animation technique creates a look and style that is nostalgic yet contemporary, but unlike anything else currently out there. Beautiful work and top-notch craftsmanship from the whole team.

Nelson de Castro and Carlos Lopez Estrada, both highly successful music video directors in their own right, have paired up to create this excellent video for Hook N Sling&#39;s Break Yourself. And it&#39;s a match made in heaven - or at least somewhere shrouded in fog...&nbsp;Out of the misty gloom, we travel back and forth up the centre aisle of a bus - initially a typical high school bus into which a boy climbs aboard and faces that&nbsp;age-old qualm about who to sit next to. Like something out of the&nbsp;Twilight Zone,&nbsp;this action is repeated with the lad encountering an ever-changing cast of passengers, and variations on previous groups, including&nbsp;possessed children with red, glowing eyes,&nbsp;rowdy jocks and cheerleaders headed to a game,&nbsp;and a&nbsp;church congregation complete with priest and thurifer.&nbsp;The dreamlike sequences&nbsp;also includes a carcrash, treated with the same degree of lighthearted absurdity, leading straight into the next sequence as if nothing happened.It&#39;s an auspicious first collaboration between the two directors - and they also now&nbsp;have&nbsp;a new Vimeo account &#39;Nelson y Carlos&#39;. An indication that&nbsp;there&#39;s more collaborations to come, perhaps?&nbsp;&nbsp;
