Born in 1989, Michael Demetriou is an English-Cypriot director, writer and producer. He began his career with short film, Tritos (2010), and later entered the advertising world, using it as a platform to create more innovative short films known for their unique tone and views on social expectation.In 2015, he wrote, directed and produced Telephone Me – a 15-minute film, shot on 16mm by Rina Yang. The film is a raw, intense look at the toxic culture young males create for themselves during their university-era. It premiered on NoBudge and went on to receive a Vimeo Staff Pick, numerous write-ups online and currently stands at 90K views.Hellspawn, his latest short, is his most personal yet. Adamant about shooting 16mm and unable to find a DP to commit to the low-budget project, he undertook helming the camera himself – an additional feat. Set within the UK film, TV and advertising industry, the short explores how creative individuals define success and what they go through in order to achieve their dreams.
