Melody Maker explores freedom and restrictions in her hallucinatory promo for Greentea Peng.&nbsp;Locked inside an apartment building, we see the artists isolated from the world outside, unable to connect with&nbsp;anything outside of the four walls that encase them.&nbsp;The hazy cinematography blurs into a surrealist dreamworld, as the artists&nbsp;appear as giant döppelgängers,&nbsp;staring at their true selves&nbsp;through the window glass as if they were experimental guinea pigs.&nbsp;It's a clever commentary on the extended period of time we have been trapped away from each other, and the ongoing severance of our natural ties to the world and our true purpose.[imgtoken data:1]

Melody Maker directs a transcendent promo for new RCA signing&nbsp;Rhett Nicholl.Shot on 16mm, we see&nbsp;the artist performing in an apartment surrounded by religious iconography, as an otherworldly sun burns through the windows and&nbsp;drenches&nbsp;the location in a saturated yellow light.&nbsp;Layered with abstract cutaways and experimental animation, the cinematography by Thomas English is gorgeous, perfectly suited to the concept, and the use of multiple formats adds a contemporary spin to the nostalgic style.&nbsp;

Melody Maker&nbsp;embraces a slick, cyberpunk aesthetic in her gripping promo&nbsp;for Mahalia's Jealous, featuring Rico Nasty.&nbsp;Invading a former lover's mansion, decked head to toe in futuristic styling, Mahalia isn't here to play games. Stalking the overtly neon blue environment, she glitches in and out of reality, joined by US-based rapper Rico Nasty, who terrorises the guy through different TV screens spotted around the house.&nbsp;A true feat, this is Mahalia as you've never seen her before, and no doubt one of her very best videos. Greentea Peng meditates on human nature, and a tumultuous year, in a perpetually-moving rollercoaster of a concept for Revolution devised by Melody Maker.&nbsp;Shot in Ridley Road market in Dalston, East London, the charismatic singer-songwriter delivers an absorbing performance and&nbsp;optimistic call to arms.&nbsp;Through the use of a motion control rig - operated by DoP Thomas English -&nbsp;the Dalston environment changes in front of our eyes, documenting the people, places and events that have taken place in this shared universal experience. &nbsp;“A result of recent turmoil: political, societal, and individual. 2020, a painfully transformative year for the collective," states Greentea Peng.&nbsp;"Revolution is a product of this pain and also the anger we’ve been struggling to move through, at the same time it represents the hope conjured. A reminder to remember where the first revolution must take place and also a reminder to be aware of where and what we put our energy and belief into.”

Back in the midst of Deep Lockdown, director Melody Maker co-created a video with&nbsp;R&amp;B artist JGrrey for her single Ain't So, which&nbsp;ushers the viewer into a fantastical world of butterflies, bluebells and gigantic spiders - an animated concept inspired by J’s favourite things.Due to strict lockdown regulations, it had to be shot, styled and performed by JGrrey herself with the help of Maker remotely. They really made the most of deserted open spaces, nature's early summer bloom, and crystal blue skies. Then the VFX team at The Mill augmented reality with a dose of supernature.&nbsp;

Melody Maker's video for Greentea Peng explores an issue that was facing Londoners before the trauma of Covid-19: the disruption to local communities caused by redevelopment and gentrification.The film shows Greentea Peng making her way out of a flat at The Aylesbury Estate just before the remaining block on the South London estate&nbsp;is demolished. The film is accompanied by a self penned letter from Greentea Peng, an outcry on the state of London.

Continuing&nbsp;the trend of understated Christmas videos, Mabel explores the downside of the festive period in the video for Loneliest Time Of The Year.&nbsp;Heavily focused on Mabel's performance, the video by Melody Maker has a few simple setups, including the artist sat on her bed and in a living room whilst friends celebrate around her. The choice to keep things so simple allows viewers to connect with the core themes of the track - we all have our ups and downs, and Christmas can be an incredibly lonely and isolated time for many.&nbsp;Swapping out festive decorations for a muted earthy colour palette, the lighting and design lend a wistful and emotional vibe to the video, whilst Mabel's downcast performance bolsters the entire concept.&nbsp;This certainly is not the most joyful songs of the period, but the message it gets across is important.&nbsp;Especially&nbsp;with the amount of people who will be celebrating on their own this year or&nbsp;are homeless and have nowhere to go.&nbsp;&nbsp;
